5 out of 5 eggsSolid Again

This review is from: CORSAIR HX series HX650 650W ATX12V v2.2 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: This is an update to my previous review titled "Solid".

This power supply is good. It powers my gear with no problems. Has all the features you need. It has two 6+2 pin connects for video cards. Can be used as 6 pin. CPU cable fits 4 and 8 pin sockets. Plenty of connects for other devices as well. I'm running a GTX770 and an i5 with no problems. It might be able to run 2 smaller cards, but I haven't tried it.

My previous review I had complained that it was noisy. I was able to correct the issue. It is now as quiet as advertised. Even gaming for hours on end the fans barely spin above idle.

Cons: None for me. Has all the power and connectors I need.

Other Thoughts: Since correcting the issue causing it to run at 100% all the time I can't believe how quiet it is. I'm actually very impressed now. I've used Corsair for a long time and will keep using them. I'd buy this again tomorrow to build a single GPU system.

5 out of 5 eggs80+ Gold Indefinitely

This review is from: CORSAIR HX series HX650 650W ATX12V v2.2 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: This PSU runs super quiet and cool in my gaming rig (R9 280X GPU and an OC'd 4670K) Corsair also backs this supply with a 3 year warranty. Bought it with the rebate so that's always a plus (still waiting for it). Plenty of connections for everything. The 8 pin supplemental power cord is

Cons: The instructions are confusing, but with enough common sense I figured it out. If you mount your PSU on the bottom of your case the power switch is flipped (up for off, down for on). Don't know what they were thinking including a caring bag and cable bag. Don't really need it.

Other Thoughts: I'd definitely buy a more powerful supply of the same HX series if I decide to upgrade to two GPU's.

4 out of 5 eggsSolid

This review is from: CORSAIR HX series HX650 650W ATX12V v2.2 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: It powers my system. No problems so far. Clean install with removable cables. Leave off the cables you dont use. When you expand, just add on what you need.

Has 2 6+2 pins to run bigger single cards. May be able to run two smaller cards, but I have not tried it. I currently have a GTX 770.

Cpu cable will fit older 4 pin sockets and newer 8 pin sockets. If you upgrade you may repurpose this to an older board.

Overall theres enough connections to run everything you need unless you are doing some extreme build.

Cons: Mine is noisy. Fan always seems to be going full blast regardless of load on my system. System noise isnt a huge concern of mine but I did dock an egg for the annoyance. Will probably result in a shorter lifespan if a solution is not found.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Power Supply

This review is from: CORSAIR HX series HX650 650W ATX12V v2.2 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Its quiet, doesn't build up extra heat, powers my system with no problem. Modular cables made installation (and re-installation once I flipped it over) a breeze. The cables are wrapped so you can barely tell they are there.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: When I first started using the power supply I was worried that I had received a faulty PS. The fan was starting up even though my computer was on. I left the computer on for 30 minutes before I shut it down because the fan was spinning. I went to look up the problem before going through the process of sending it out. Found out this supply is so good at cooling that without my GPU in and not using demanding applications the PS' fan would not come on. SO I went back turned on my computer and started to play a video game and the PS kicked on. Now I have a GPU and the PS fan usually kicks on after start up.

5 out of 5 eggsGood PSU

This review is from: CORSAIR HX series HX650 650W ATX12V v2.2 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Semi-modular - you don't have unused cables lying in the case.

80+ Gold, though I have to take their word for it.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Not a con, but the main power cables are not modular. You have to go to the AX or RM series to get fully modular PSUs.

Also not a con (in my opinion), but the PSU had a bad fit in the case (also Corsair). Turned out one of the rivets was too long. I grinded it a bit, and the PSU fits very nicely now. I assume this event should be rare, though.

4 out of 5 eggsStill Excellent But...

This review is from: CORSAIR HX series HX650 650W ATX12V v2.2 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Modular. Quiet. Corsair reputation for quality.

Cons: Doesn't live up to warranty.

Other Thoughts: The last few years, the quality had slipped. HX650 PSUs that used to run well past 5 years are now dying at 3 years. Most observable on PCs that run 24/7 or 80% of the time. RAID failure is the first symptom. Crash on CD burner use is next. Boot failure is last. Still the best but I now replace them more frequently. 5 year warranty is not meant for 5 years of 24/7 use. Corsair is playing odds that most PCs are not run like this.

2 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: CORSAIR HX series HX650 650W ATX12V v2.2 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Power seems adequate, decent cabling.

Cons: The unit I received would not throttle down from full fan usage. The fan was running 100% all the time, regardless of usage making it louder than the fan in my office.

Other Thoughts: If there are some modifications to the BIOS that would help, I'd be glad to find out. It seems like it might be a software problem.

1 out of 5 eggsNot happy

This review is from: CORSAIR HX series HX650 650W ATX12V v2.2 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Can't say anything about Pro's. The item was defect within a year.

Cons: I started to have problems after about 8, 9 months of operation. I first noticed performance issues with the video card and processor. At first I didn't even think it was a problem with the power supply - until it finally became so hot that it was obvious what caused the issues.

Other Thoughts: I bought a new power supply. I am hoping that I will get a refund form corsair for the broken one. I'm quite disappointed, I bought this rather expensive power supply because of corsair's name, I did not expect it to break this soon.
