The modular cable set allows you to use only the cables you need for your particular set of components to improve your system heat dissipation and ensure a neat inner look. 80 PLUS Gold certified, the CORSAIR HX650 delivers up to 90% energy efficiency under real-world load conditions to keep your PC cool and quiet, and your power bill down.

  • newegg 80 PLUS GOLD CERTIFIED The 80 PLUS Gold certified power supply provides high power efficiency of at least 87% at any load between 20% and 100%, saving you money on your electrical bill, reducing heat in your computer's system and prolonging its life.

3 out of 5 eggscorsair

Pros: its a corsair. its super quiet, even under load. all the cables are very long (which was actually an issue in my itx case, but for most of you the longer cables are probably a plus). reviews ive seen of this unit show it can output way more than its rated 650 watt without breaking a sweat (just buy a bigger supply if you need more power though, seriously). modular cables are nice.

Cons: the first unit i got had a bad fan on it. i understand that this fan doesn't operate at low loads, but my first unit overheated because even under extreme load the fan never spun up. newegg replaced it immediately, no questions asked. even with the best there's bound to be some duds out there, so its no big deal really.

UPDATE: its been about a year now and the replacement power supply is having fan noise as well. first off, even at idle, the fan doesn't really turn off. it cycles continuously. 10 seconds on, 10 seconds off, over and over. its not due to heat. my whole system is water cooled and stays very cool at idle. ambient temps are very low as well. I've run it both with the case open, and closed. its not due to power consumption. my kill-o-watt meter shows my system drawing 38 watts from the wall at idle. the computer is in a very clean room, and there is no visible dust on the machine. when the fan is cycling on at its minimum operating speed, it has a mild squeal, which is very annoying in a quiet room.

Other Thoughts: it came with floppy connectors. i find that to be hilarious. i nearly forgot what decade i was living in.

the cables are a bit stiff. it makes them a tad hard to manage if you're a stickler about cable management like I am, but with some patience and some effort they will conform to whatever shape you need. once you've got it all set they'll stay put pretty well, even without zip ties.

5 out of 5 eggsStill running strong!

Pros: Running an ATI 4850, then 4870, then AMD 7950 all flawlessly with a 7750BE to 965BE and then a FX8300. Modular works great, It is running strong since 2010, and still under warranty! Gotta love that!

Cons: fan makes more noise now than it used to, possibly from increased load over the years to a more powerful computer. Might have to look into cleaning it in a high dust environment as long as I can do so without voiding my warranty.

Other Thoughts: would recommend these old corsair power supplies in a heart beat, with excellent reliability and being able to cope with an increasing work load throughout its lifetime this thing was the best computer purchase I've made and is the lifeline of my gaming computer. I corsair used to partner with seasonic, the most reputable psu makers in the industry. I'm not sure what they are using now, but these older ones were the cream of the crop and the talk of the town. Remember when corsair just made RAM?

2 out of 5 eggs2 RMAS in two years

Pros: Pros.. well it works for a year at an time I guess. It is quiet

Cons: first RMA was few months after getting it. There was a weird chirping sound and they replaced it with a new one. A year later it just died, did a paper clip test and the fan does not even spin.

Setting up RMA for second problem right now. I dont think I can recommend this power supply or Corsair for now. Even if they send a new one back again I will likely go buy a new pus from another brand.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: A great power supply, when it works.

Cons: The original supply I received was dead. This was confirmed with Corsair's "paper clip test" (aka shorting two contacts on the power connector by jamming a paper clip into it) as described on their website. They accepted my RMA claim, but I was responsible for return shipping. Considering the cost of the supply, the time wasted troubleshooting it, the cost to ship it back to Corsair, and the time waiting for a new supply to return, I wish I had just spent more and bought a more reliable product.

Other Thoughts: Corsair should invest in a QA/QC department and use better manufacturing processes.

5 out of 5 eggsPowerful

Pros: I really like Corsair's packaging, I guess, because I liked how it was boxed.

it works perfectly, no issues. easy installation, trust it to keep going.

price point was something I had to be flexible with. I was advised that this would be really great especially if I plan on upgrading or expanding in the future (which I eventually do)

Cons: price maybe? who knew that power could be so costly?

5 out of 5 eggsSteady goodness

Pros: So far it is working perfectly. Years ago I made the mistake of buying an off-brand cheapie. Now I have 2 of these in 2 rigs working beautifully. Stay with a major brand for your PS. It is the heart of your system.

Good design and modular cables.

Cons: Zero complaints.

Other Thoughts: Perhaps a more aggressive rig will require more than 650 and the next PS likely will be gold rated- but there isn't any need to change for a long time.

However, I wont buy any component that can be seen by myself or other from Corsair until they switch back to the sails logo. Why would they hurt such a good reputation with a stunt like that?

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Zero problems, even after getting water inside the case and frying some other components. Modular, which helps with keeping the case tidy.

I only came to write a review because I wanted to check my old invoices to see which PSU I'd previously purchased - so I could buy it all over again.

Cons: None.
