2 out of 5 eggsLoud fan after a few months

This review is from: CORSAIR CX series CX430 430W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Cheap if bought during the frequent sales, and it works.

Cons: The fan is pretty loud. At first, it was decently quiet. Not as quiet as my OEM off brand PSU, but quiet enough. However, after a few months, the fan goes through cycles. Like every few minutes, it will make a loud noise like it's vibrating, stop, and continue again indefinitely.

Other Thoughts: If you really want a cheap PSU that just works and have a strict budget, it's a good buy. However, I highly recommend saving your money and getting a higher watt more reliable PSU for expandability. If noise isn't a problem, then I guess it's a solid PSU (until it potentially overheats due to fan failure). Overall though, I can't recommend this brand. Bought this PSU and a $100 mechanical keyboard from Corsair, both defective.

5 out of 5 eggsBeware of rigid cables

This review is from: CORSAIR CX series CX430 430W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Great reviews.

Cons: Beware that the cables are very stiff. The 4 SATA connectors are on 2 cables, two connectors each. If you're installing more than 2 devices, the second SATA connector is very difficult (impossible) to bend enough. The solution is to make sure you have some Molex to SATA adapters handy, as they are very flexible, and the PSU, if I remember correctly, has 3 Molex connectors.

Other Thoughts: Thank goodness for the molex to SATA connectors

4 out of 5 eggsGreat for the price

This review is from: CORSAIR CX series CX430 430W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Quiet. Inexpensive.

Cons: A little light on the amount of SATA cables. If I ever go with crossfire video I'll have to replace it.

Other Thoughts: I'm using this P/S in a case with 2 large HDDs and one SSD cache drive, one small video card and two PCI cards. I had to move a few things around in the case to get the cables to fit, but that wasn't a problem. So far it works perfectly. No issues even when I load the system with video rendering.

1 out of 5 eggsVery, very disappointing

This review is from: CORSAIR CX series CX430 430W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: As far as I can tell, none. Construction looked OK, cables were fine, internal component so I don't care how it looks. However, if flipping the switch does nothing, the rest of it doesn't matter.

Cons: DOA X2. Very frustrating, returns are expensive for something heavy like this.

Other Thoughts: I swear by Corsair memory products, but it's going to take a whole lot for me to buy a Corsair PS again. I was looking for a low power, no bells and whistles PS for a secondary low power build. As I said, DOA twice . I'm forgiving about one, but two in a row really suggests a quality control issue. Most of all, I can't test the other components and finish the build until this is resolved. After receiving the second dead component, did a bit more research. These Corsair PS's are not made by Corsair, and there is a very high DOA rate. Look at the distribution of eggs in reviews. 18% 1 egg!! I guess if it works, it's great, but it's a bit of a gamble as to whether or not it will.

Bought another brand, begins with A and has a 380W supply that has, unbelievably, 5 eggs. We;ll see how that works out.
