5 out of 5 eggsCorsair CX500

This review is from: CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Was not DOA !
Purchased summer 2013, never had a problem.

Cons: When ready to buy a decent gaming gpu, there's good options for this PSU, but not enough umph for all the higher performance GPU's that are popular atm.

1 out of 5 eggsNoisy garbage

This review is from: CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: It supplies power to the connected motherboard and devices

Cons: I bought a Corsair CX500 PSU to put in a new Skylake build. It worked, but the machine was noisy and after screwing with case fans for days I realized the intermittent buzzing was coming from the grates on the back of the power supply.

Paying closer attention, I realized a constant rattling noise that I'd assumed was a case fan was also coming from the PSU. I triple-checked, and the PSU was properly bolted in to my Corsair case. So I tried to get used to the noise.

After the PSU fan raced (making a sound like a hair dryer) for several seconds one day while I was booting the machine, I looked into getting a replacement. The Newegg return date had passed, so I contacted Corsair... techs were helpful in getting me an RMA, but I had to eat $18 in shipping charges to return the dysfunctional PSU.

The replacement (Corsair sent a new PSU still in the shrink-wrap, so at least it wasn't a refurb) is better, but it also buzzes intermittently and sometimes blasts the fan briefly at startup for no discernible reason. I've had no issues with the power in my house and even bought a new surge protector for good measure.

If/when the noise gets worse, I'll be buying a new PSU from someone other than Corsair. My old machine with an Antec power supply is pushing 5 years without a hitch.

Other Thoughts: Avoid, no matter how enticing the sale price might be. A $40 power supply gets expensive fast if you have to rip apart your new machine and pay shipping to return it to the manufacturer.

1 out of 5 eggsDead on arrival

This review is from: CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Pros: Had all the hookups I needed for my machine.

Cons: Cons: The 24 pin cable seems to be completely dead, and this thing couldn't even power the case fan. I'm returning it for a replacement.

Other Thoughts: You get what you pay for with these things.

1 out of 5 eggsI got hosed!

This review is from: CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Nothing to enter, it doesn't work!!!

Cons: I had this in storage waiting to buy a rig suitable for it. I never connected it or powered it up. I built the new rig today and guess what: LL on 12V connector using a Coolmax PS-228 PSU tester. So I got hosed by Corsair.

Other Thoughts: I should have tested it when I got it in Dec 2014. Now I'm out $50 and have to buy a new PSU!

4 out of 5 eggsGreat PSU for the price.

This review is from: CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Reliable, does the job well. Have purchased & installed 3 in various builds with no issues.

Cons: It's not fully modular. If you're building a high-performance build or are a neat freak, invest in a fully modular supply.

Other Thoughts: If you're building a PC for home or work (or your relatives) and don't need to worry about maximizing airflow or neatness, this power supply will be perfect for your needs.

1 out of 5 eggsDidn't work

This review is from: CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Mine didn't work

Cons: Either broken 24 pin connector or 24 pin cable

Other Thoughts: If I hold the connector in a specific spot or if I get lucky it might boot with no USB power, most times system just won't post. I RMA'd it with Newegg for a refund.

5 out of 5 eggs3 Years Strong

This review is from: CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Easily installed in my PC and what a difference in quality! Swapped out my stock one that came with my HP desktop and it felt like cheap junk compared to the corsair. Very nice quality and has been going 3 years strong with no hiccups or fuss.

Cons: No cons.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: This power supply has continued to work for over 1.5 years now. It's quiet. The cables have mesh over them.

Cons: The cables are not modular but is not a big deal if a person has the right case with good cable management.

3 out of 5 eggsokay for a starter supply

This review is from: CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: works nothing special

Cons: broke a little earlier then i thought it would

Other Thoughts: worked fine for me for about a year. then started to cut out and then died when i tryed to play fallout 4. but to be honest both my cpu and gpu have a minimum requirement of 500w so it was bound to brake
