5 out of 5 eggsPleasently surprised

This review is from: CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Very reasonably priced at $30 after promo deal and mail in rebate (assuming it comes through).
Good cable lengths, and lots of connectors.
Cables are all in braided wrap.

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: Not sure this is worth the regular price of $60, but if you see it on special for $30 like it was a couple weeks ago, jump on it!

3 out of 5 eggs3 Year warranty, dead at 3 years & 3 months

This review is from: CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Worked well for my needs for its (short) life span

Cons: Fan was slightly louder than I'd have liked for a 500w, but it's on the cheaper end of the Corsair spectrum, so no surprise I guess.

Other Thoughts: I was attracted to this PSU because of the price:wattage ratio and the good brand name. I expect high quality components from a Corsair PSU. The warranty helped with peace of mind. That said, when you purchase something with a warranty, you don't usually assume it will DIE at the end of said warranty, you just know you are covered for that time. Mine lasted only 8 or so weeks after the warranty ran it's course, and that's pretty frustrating and disappointing coming from Corsair.

1 out of 5 eggsDead after 7 months

This review is from: CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: No pros, it died way too soon.

Cons: Bought as a replacement for a friend. Not abused at all while in use, it simply died after 7 months. When I took it out of the case it still looked brand-new with almost no dust build-up.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer,

We're sorry for the inconvenience. If you would like a replacement, please contact us by submitting a support ticket at corsair.force.com or calling us at 888-222-4346 and we'll be more than happy to ship you a new one.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat Product, Rebate Denied

This review is from: CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Lots of options for connectors. Super quiet operation.

Cons: You won't get your rebate. They told me the UPC is incorrect. Went around in circles with Corsair rep to no avail. Would've bought the Cooler Master if I'd known that.

5 out of 5 eggsNice PSU

This review is from: CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Works as advertised. Not for a monster system with multiple GPUs, but it will run a midrange MB with a few drives. Always nice to have an extra PSU.

Cons: until it bites me in the rear, I'm loving this little black beauty....

Other Thoughts: Recommendation: no matter what wattage PSU you need, get good quality. Never had an issue with midrange to high end Corsair PSUs. Do not...Do not...go cheap on your PSU. For the new builder or amateur: put a cheap PSU on your expensive MB and eventually you will lose in the end. PSU testers, worth their weight in gold, test your new PSU BEFORE you connect it to your system. You don't want to turn your rig into an expensive smoke bomb!

4 out of 5 eggsGreat for the price

This review is from: CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Had it for, I want to say 4 years now without any problems*. Not running any high end gaming rig of course but it gets the job done just fine. Has everything you need for low-mid tier gaming build. Anything above that you'll want to get something over 500W.

Cons: None really.

Other Thoughts: *I did however have a scare the other week. The fan started making some cranking noises and dropped from the normal speed to a crawl. Immediately turned off my computer and checked it out for anything I could think of. Might have just been dust, or it's just old. Just something to be mindful of, not really a con.
