5 out of 5 eggsCorsair CX500

This review is from: CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Clean
Nicely braided cables
Solid construction

Cons: 24-pin power connector was a little difficult to slot in, may have been an issue with the motherboard, not entirely sure

5 out of 5 eggsCrown Jewel

This review is from: CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: +Cheap
+Effective
+Champion

Cons: -Doesn't fit in NASA ships

Other Thoughts: I build computers not only as a career but a hobby as well. Corsairs 500w Bronze rated model is my top choice for standard builds. Most people have no clue what they're doing when purchasing their builds power supply unit. Sadly the majority of pc builders go total overkill on their psus and end up spending extra funds on the power supply opposed to a better graphics card, monitor, cpu, ram or other components that make a difference in performance and not the power bill.

This PSU is a must have for any entry/ advanced builder

2 out of 5 eggsSolid short term PSU

This review is from: CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Solid, worked incredibly well with gaming and my set up until...

Cons: It just stopped working. One day I guess it just woke up and decided it was finished. Seems like a great short term PSU but that's not what I was in the market for/signed up for.

1 out of 5 eggsGood power supply, faulty 24-pin connector

This review is from: CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Great brand, very reliable. I've owned multiple and currently have a HX750 in my main build, been running very well for over 2 years.

Cons: The CX500's 24-pin connector does not snap into place fully on my motherboard. I have tried it on another motherboard with the same results. I then tried a different power supply (same brand, the HX750) on the board and it snapped into place perfectly. The only way to boot my pc with the CX500 is to hold the 24-pin connector at an angle when booting. Works fine after booting, but is a huge hassle to do this every time I boot the pc.

1 out of 5 eggsDied after 5 months

This review is from: CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Worked fine while it lasted.

Cons: Died after 5 months. This morning it just turned off, and wouldn't turn on again. Plugging it into a power supply tester confirmed that it was dead as a doornail.

Other Thoughts: I've gotten Corsair PSU's in the past, but never a CX-series. I was trying to save a little money, and I've learned my lesson. Never again.

1 out of 5 eggsDo not buy

This review is from: CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: None

Cons: 24 pin connector will not clip. This appears to be a common problem.

Look elsewhere

3 out of 5 eggsProduct good, refund is sketchy

This review is from: CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Works well, reliable company. Shipping was fast.

Cons: Price was only good because of refund. Refund was pretty scammy. Lots of hoops to jump through, multiple forms to print out. Not an easy process to navigate. I cannot help but think this likely deliberately designed to be this way.

Watch out for 2 or more short windows of time in which to submit refund.

Also note: all forms do not list what is needed to get refund. You have to read all the forms together to see what is needed. Again, I suspect this is likely deliberately designed so you do not mail all the necessary items in time.

2 out of 5 eggsTerrible tolerances

This review is from: CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: It runs my computer, for now...

Cons: 1. The 24 pin motherboard connector will not fully seat! Looking at each pin, they are rectangle shaped instead of square. Trying any harder was bending my motherboard far too much.
2. Sata connectors are difficult to plug in.
3. All wires are very stiff, and difficult to route cleanly.
4. Case mounting screw holes are located too wide overall, and barely make the holes in my case.
5. Case mounting screw holes are filled with black paint / power coat, making the included screws difficult to install.

Other Thoughts: Not worth it, even with the discount.

5 out of 5 eggsRock solid reliability

This review is from: CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: This thing has been rock solid reliable for almost a year is now running a R9 280X and FX-8370E system without an issue. All the connectors I need. Great PSU.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Not modular but my method of cable management is maximum spaghetti so not an issue for me.

3 out of 5 eggsStarted shuting off after 2.5 years

This review is from: CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: I found this to be a very good psu up until lately.

Cons: Started dropping power after 2.5 years. Up until now it did every thing it was supposed to do.

Other Thoughts: Replaced by a Corsair cx600m.
