5 out of 5 eggsFor $47 After Taxes, I can't complain

This review is from: CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: -Cheap ($44.99 with no rebates or anything)
-80+ and Bronze rated
-Corsair (evmatches the rest of the build)

Cons: -Non Modular (Which I already knew, but in a tight case, I'd shell out the extra few $ to get the modular one)
-CX500 is green (Doesn't match the rest of the build.....)

2 out of 5 eggsDead in less than 1 year

This review is from: CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Made good power while it lasted, fan not overly loud. Plenty of connections, and good cable length for a mid tower.

Cons: Started dying within 6 months (random reboots and shutdowns). After 10 months of ownership, sending it back to Corsair. I have to pay the shipping.

Other Thoughts: We'll see how the RMA process goes. I have a Corsair CX430 that is still going strong after several years.

5 out of 5 eggsWhat you want

This review is from: CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: I have been buying only Corsair for power in the last 8 years or so. It's nice that it's quiet. No problems. As to 500 watts, who besides the overcolcker/massive video card crowd needs over 200 Watts? Haswells & Sandies are low total pwr- the old days are over!

Cons: Time for a total reworking of the nasty cabling, industry-wide. Once upon a time there were 4-core 90 mm room heaters, now gone, never to be seen again!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat little PSU

This review is from: CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: - Worked flawlessly for almost a year now.
- Quiet enough.
- Braided cables.

Cons: - No actual faults to date.

Other Thoughts: Great PSU, I'd recommend it to anyone needing a 500W PSU. Unfortunately I upgraded my video card so I have to get some more juice.

5 out of 5 eggsWorth every cent

This review is from: CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Inexpensive
Quality
80 plus bronze
Great brand name

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: This is all you need for single GPU builds. I use this power supply for 2 of my builds and it is a great power supply. The fact that it provides quality power to your devices can sometimes circumvent the wattage requirement. In most cases this will provide enough power for video cards that require 600 watt power supplies. As long as your not running 3 mechanical drives in raid or something crazy.

5 out of 5 eggsMAKE SURE YOUR OUTLET IS GROUNDED

This review is from: CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: See previous review

Cons: See previous review, but take with a grain of salt. See Other Thoughts

There is still SOME coil whine, although that might just be my Refurbished 250x

However, the connectors (which i did check) namely the 24 pin connector doesnt exactly click all the way in and I couldn't get it to even with pushing with much force. (Flexing the board. Scared me lol) THAT isnt much of an issue because worse comes to worst with a connector that wont stay in, there are redneck things i can do that wont void a warranty c:

Other Thoughts: After posting my review and not wanting to have to do an RMA or buy a new PSU,
I remembered the time my guitar SHOCKED ME. That was when I learned that newer technology (My amplifier) detests bad power. (my ungrounded outlets.)

My house is old, some of my outlets are too. My power supply was crackling and spinning weird and moaning and groaning and just made it sound really weird.

Switching to a grounded, newer, proper outlet and the problems have disappeared, thus far. It's been 3 or 4 days since the switch and there's zero of the issues i've had on a daily basis as before.

It makes me wonder how many people think their components are bad when it's just bad power making them act up. I've known outlets to burn out hair straighteners, blow driers, make my laptops charger heat to high hell (It's partially burned out. It dies sometimes and starts working again randomly)
I've had it short out my amplifier to the point where excess electricity went INTO my guitar and shock ME.

I have a surge protector that detects whether an outlet is grounded or not, and if you can find one like that it's worth getting and using.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty good

This review is from: CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Good quality, 500W, black, plenty of connectors

Cons: Extremely tight connections, I can't get the motherboard power connector to snap in place.

Other Thoughts: Get a modular PSU. If you have a small case you will have spare connections everywhere.

1 out of 5 eggsPurchase at own risk

This review is from: CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: 500 Watts.
Cheap
Everything I needed on it.
It works fine, for now.

Cons: It keeps making strange noises.
Hit or miss. Some people get the good ones, i got the bad one

The fan is droning right now. By that i mean its going from a low pitched sound, slowly up to a slightly higher pitched sound. I think the fan is fluctuating in speed, hence the sound.

The weird thing is you can FEEL it. the change in vibrations.

Other Thoughts: Don't buy this unless you're okay with the idea of having to return, refund, RMA, or toss it out a window. I'm not saying each and every one is bad. I bought this knowing i might get a bad one BUT

I work in retail. I know that people are more inclined to share their bad experience than their good experiences. There were a bunch of good and bad reviews to begin with. but I had assumed the bad reviews only looked big because less people share their good experiences than the bad. So i was wrong about that.
It's a decent PSU if youre lucky enough to get one that works. I'm sure its just this line, I'm not going to hate on the entire brand. In fact they're real cool about their warranties. I think this is 2 or 3 year manufacturer.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent PSU

This review is from: CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Stable power
Near silent, can't really hear it

Cons: Has two cords for SATA power. One with three connectors, and one with two. This creates a problem for people like me who have four hard drives, and a disk drive. That means one of the hard drives is forced to sit in a disk bay.

Other Thoughts: Good PSU, but be careful if you want to use more than three hard drives and a disk drive at once.
