5 out of 5 eggsGoing Strong

This review is from: CORSAIR AX series AX860 860W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS PLATINUM Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: I bought this power supply to go in a new build with an I7 Haswell processor.
I could have gone with a 750W but like to error on the high side. The modular design is great as it came with more cables than I needed.
Installing it in a Cooler Master HAF 932 required me to remove the fan guard for a bottom placement. This was not a big deal because the case provides plenty of guarding for the fan.
A DOA part is always possible but with a new build it's easy to test BEFORE you get everything in the case. It looked like all the bad reviews involved a DOA.
So far mine has been going strong since I turned it on. (with power to spare)

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: The Corsair brand was recommended by my IT friends.

2 out of 5 eggsFailed after a month of use, but nice while it worked

This review is from: CORSAIR AX series AX860 860W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS PLATINUM Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Nice modular design. The CPU fan toggle is nice, too. Assuming it was working as intended, that Platinum rating is definitely nice.

Cons: When I first installed it, it would rapidly turn off and on, with about a third of a second between state changes, and it wouldn't respond to the power or reset buttons. It did this until I unplugged a hard drive, then it worked fine (even after I plugged the hard drive back in), including being controlled by the power and reset buttons.

Then, today, while playing Battlefield 4, my entire machine switched off, as if the power to my house was cut. It wasn't, and my monitor was still on, so clearly it wasn't the outlet or something. I restarted the machine, and it booted fine. But five minutes into my web browsing session, the screen went dark and the machine became unresponsive. After about 30 seconds it rebooted. It did this three times in a row.

4 out of 5 eggsAwesome.... but....

This review is from: CORSAIR AX series AX860 860W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS PLATINUM Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: excellent power. Needed more juice for my video card and this answered my needs.

Cons: After I plugged it in (after I static discharged and triple checked cords) somehow my hard drive was fried and no longer responsive. I've had that hard drive for over a year and never had an issue prior. luckily I had a backup 320G... but the one that became unresponsive was 1T. 4 stars only because I didn't lose much data with my consistent backup tendencies and it makes my rig purr now.

Other Thoughts: why my hard drive? I used the same cord for the new hard drive and its fine. also no other part of my pc fried....how many more times can I say fried?

5 out of 5 eggsPurchased with an edge of concern

This review is from: CORSAIR AX series AX860 860W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS PLATINUM Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Packaging was great. Corsair gives you a good cosmetic look to the product. I liked the look of the cables. You have a lot of flexibility in terms of what you can connect with the modular cables although they can be a slight pain. I liked how all the wires were black shielded so you don't have the array of colors showing. It makes it look cleaner. I did a post test on it and my only complaint is that it was a real pain in the backside to remove the 24pin from my mobo after the post test. Granted that is a positive at the same time since you know it is connected firmly but my fingers hurt now but not worth docking an egg.

Cons: None currently as the system has not been under a full load.

Other Thoughts: My concerns were so many negative reviews I read on this PSU. I read so many negatives on coil whine. I almost bought another PSU but I wanted the platinum certified. I submitted questions on this site about the whine and got responses that eased me a little. I also had a friend locally that owned one and said he never had an issue with his. I still had concerns but newegg dropped the price and corsair offered a rebate with it so I said at that time it was worth the risk. Now as I mentioned I have only done a post test at this time and not had the system under a load other than just getting to the bios screen but all the reviews on the coil whine stated it was immediate as soon as they powered up. well I can say sitting there at the desk on the test bench once I fired it up it was silent as can be. My concerns about coil whine have been removed. I am not sure what has happened to the many other bad reviews as the dates on them were around the same time period so maybe a bad batch I could not answer all I can say is as of right now this PSU is operating as expected.

1 out of 5 eggsCorsair Is Garbage!

This review is from: CORSAIR AX series AX860 860W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS PLATINUM Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: None, dead on arrival.

Cons: Dead on arrival.

Other Thoughts: Don't buy Corsair, I bought the AX860 to replace my CX750M which made a horrific noise under stress, and it was dead on arrival.

Corsair has lost a customer. I had a lot of faith in them, but in all my online shopping this is the first product I've received that was DOA.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat power supply!

This review is from: CORSAIR AX series AX860 860W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS PLATINUM Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Awsome power supply, fully modular, high dessity sleeved cables, cant see through and even than the cables are all black, so does not look ugly. Long cables, lots of cables. Clean look, Very silent! and 80+ Platinum! $50 wasent worth the digital ax860i.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Cables are pretty hard to inset, and remove, when i got a new case, i couldent even remove the 24pin at all, even used pliers, it's like they were completly stuck.. But not enough to remove a egg.

5 out of 5 eggsAX 860W ATX12v and SLI

This review is from: CORSAIR AX series AX860 860W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS PLATINUM Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Very efficient, and quiet. It would be hard pressed to say anything bad about this Power Supply.

Cons: Hard pressed to say something bad or even quirks about this supply.

Other Thoughts: I am using this with two EVGA Geforce GTX 760 SC 4GB w/ACX cooling GPUs, Intel I7-4770K CPU, in a Corsair 600T case. I have, Blu-Ray burner, DVD burner, 2 7200 RPM harddrives, and 2 SSD. I run this PSU in Hybrid mode and the fans have yet to turn on. So it has plenty of power available. So far, I have been unsuccessful in overclocking my 4770K, so I haven't added any real additional power load there, but with more research, I plan to OC also.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat for the price

This review is from: CORSAIR AX series AX860 860W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS PLATINUM Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Everything, 80 plus platinum keeps it cool and don't drain my wallet on electricity bills, Full modular. Lots and lot and lots of cables. Cool packaging

Cons: cords are a little stiff but not a deal breaker.

Other Thoughts: I must have gotten one of the last one of these :) logged on tonight to see they are out of stock and I got mine shipped about a week ago. I got a great deal on it could not ask for more. Also it will not cook or clean.

1 out of 5 eggsNot Haswell reasy for me

This review is from: CORSAIR AX series AX860 860W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS PLATINUM Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Nice package, cables are good length

Cons: Put my new system together pushed the on button and would not start. Fans would move slightly and that's all. After tech support from EVGA and Intel and RMA on motherboard and CPU still not working. Purchased another AX860 PSU still not working. Gave up and purchased an EVGA PSU and it fired right up and is working great. I found posts in different forums other people having same problem using other brand motherboards with Haswell CPUs that were corrected with a different brand PSU other than Corsair. So beware. EVGA and Intel tech support were great to work with.
