  • newegg Modular Cabling System Get a cleaner-looking build and improved airflow with the modular cabling system. Since the peripheral power cables aren’t hard-wired to the power supply, you can connect only the cables you need for your exact configuration of PCI-E cards and storage devices. The rest of the cables stay in the box, and not in your PC’s case where they can add to the clutter and interfere with airflow.
  • newegg Reliable and Compatible Designed by Corsair’s California engineering team, built to the exact specifications and tested to strict standards, the CX Series Modular power supply is reliable for smooth operation and offers seamless compatibility for trouble-free installation.
  • newegg Compute quietly 80PLUS Bronze certification offers up to 85% energy efficiency for less heat generation. Less heat means less noise from the fan. The thermally controlled fan spins in response to the temperature for quiet computing at low load, and the large diameter reduces noise even at high load. Enjoy quiet computing.
  • newegg Black Goes with Everything You’re building a PC, not a battleship, and appearance counts. The matte black finish, black-sleeved cables and black connectors help give your system a restrained, high-tech look.

3 out of 5 eggsIt's okay, but not impressive.

Pros: This power supply was extremely quiet on power up. In fact the fan was barely noticeable over the normal room ambience. Obviously it can get a little louder under heavier loads, but it was still quieter than the other fans in the system. The PSU feels solid and the cable lengths are long enough to reach all components. This PSU also has a small footprint, 5 1/2" x 5 7/8", making it great for an ITX build. I purchased this item while on sale and with a rebate making the price hard to beat for a name brand semi-modular PSU.

Cons: Upon immediately getting this PSU I hooked it up to a tester and put it through it's paces. I am slightly disappointed and worried by some of the low power ratings I received. Under a light load I was only getting 11.8V on the -12V connector. I was also only receiving 4.9V on the 5V connector and 3.2V on the 3.3V connector. While this is within ATX version 2.3 Specifications, it is still low considering I had virtually no load on the PSU. Once I start pulling wattage through the PSU I would expect the Voltage to decline a little bit more (E = I/R) and bring it closer to the bottom limits.

My other disappointment was the fact there are only 4 modular plugs on this power supply so your configurations are limited. Most PSU's in this category have 6 modular ports giving you more flexibility.

Packaging was not the best. Most PSU's I have purchased in recent months have come surrounded in dense foam or a couple layers of bubble wrap to protect it. This one came with a thin single layer of small bubble wrap, about 1/16" thick. While my PSU did not come damaged, this is merely a ploy by the manufacturer to save a few pennies and in turn blame the shipping company if it is damaged in transit.

Other Thoughts: This product did arrive in functional, undamaged condition and does meet all required specification. The PSU case is pretty bland and unimpressive. This really doesn't detract from the PSU since most are hidden in the case and rarely seen. But if you want something you are going to show-off then you might want to look elsewhere. Overall I give it 3 eggs, deducting a couple of eggs for packaging concerns, low voltage readings, and limited modular connections.

Some may ask why I am keeping it if I am concerned about the voltage. This is going into an ITX build with very little power requirements so I have no reservations this will ultimately meet my needs. However if I was going to drop this into a gaming rig I would have most likely sent it back and requested a different one or went with another brand.

1 out of 5 eggsWorked, now Dead

Pros: cheap

Cons: This PSU worked for maybe a day, or less. I have swapped out the PSU for a known good working and my system boots up. I would give it a 0 rating for any defective product.

1 out of 5 eggsDefective

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Works but causes random power surges. After a surge, the power supply must be disconnected from the motherboard. Otherwise the fan spins but nothing else happens.

Other Thoughts: Worked fine for the first few weeks. Then my video card would randomly start outputting the wrong video timing. At first I thought it was a video card issue, but then my computer started to reboot on its own. When it did this, I would get an alert that power surges were detected. Replaced it with an extra power supply and have had no issues since. Shoddy quality as always from Corsair.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: has enough power to run everything i need. reliable

Cons: the semi-modular can be a bit frustrating. If you want just one power option you have to have a few extra wires that are just hanging out inside.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: Looks nice. Large FAN. Like the semi-modular design.

Cons: DOA in new PC build. Used my older supply...and all is fine. The CX600M would not stay booted. A short spin of the fans and then nothing.

Other Thoughts: This is MUCH more cheaply made than I expected. Very light duty feeling. I would not buy this supply had I seen it. I'll test the replacement and set it aside and keep my much more solid Silverstone SST-ST56ZF in service.

5 out of 5 eggsGo modular without breaking the bank!

Pros: It's modular, but not insanely expensive. This should be the baseline for all other budget modular PSU's out there, really.

Cons: Not a lot of plugs. Like I said, it's modular but cheap, so don't expect something really swanky.

Other Thoughts: The mobo 4+4 pin connector is clipped together, meaning a single finger press will separate each 4pin plug, but I didn't know that... so I cut the hell out of it trying to split it apart so that it would fit in my case! Oops! :p

5 out of 5 eggsPlenty of Power

Pros: Works as intended. Semi-modular design is great!
Powering a gtx-970 and i5 4690k no problems. Heat is not a problem at all.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Very happy with my overall first build!
