2 out of 5 eggsunderwhelmed

This review is from: CORSAIR CXM series CX500M 500W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: ran for a couple of days
delivered the advertised power

Cons: after running well for a couple of days, the fan on this PSU experiences a stuck bearing, or goes off balance, or something else happens, and the fan starts rattling like crazy. This happens every 3 to 5 hours

Other Thoughts: I can restart the PC, or turn it off and on again, might take a couple of times, and get the fan back on center and/or the bearings loose.

But within the next 3 to 5 hours, the same thing will happen.

Given the weight of the PSU, it will cost as much to send for RMA as the PSU cost originally. So, lesson learned.

I would avoid this model, and will probably avoid any CX Corsair, and spend more to get something with a better build quality.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat

This review is from: CORSAIR CXM series CX500M 500W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Cheap, functions fine so far. Cords are all sufficiently long. Came with every connector I required.

Cons: Connectors are a bit on the cheap side and sometimes don't feel like they're truly connected. I could foresee this becoming a bigger issue further into the PSU's life.

Other Thoughts: You'd think when you create a bargain PSU, it would be more prudent to scale up the quality of the plastic casing on the connectors... can't save that much money to cut that corner and being that the connectors are what the customer handles the most, you'd get a lot more perceived value out of even just slightly higher quality plastic on those connectors. Small gripe, the power supply is really a no brainer when you compare its price to the price of PSUs with similar features. Big fan of Corsair overall.

2 out of 5 eggsSummer temps doom this PSU.

This review is from: CORSAIR CXM series CX500M 500W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: For a ~$50 PSU, this isn't a bad PSU. Being semi modular is nice, the cables are all black, and the unit itself looks good. I have a low power setup and handles it just fine....

Cons: ...until summer hits. Every summer, computer crashes about everyday during basic desktop operations. Display freezes, keyboard lights won't change. Thought it was another component causing the issue until I replaced literally every part except the PSU and the problem persisted. Replaced MoBo/CPU, RAM and RAM slots, HDD/SDD, GPU, monitors. PSU can't handle even luke warm temps. Really unfortunate.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

This review is from: CORSAIR CXM series CX500M 500W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Looks good on paper.

Cons: Dead on Arrival

Other Thoughts: Payed for rush delivery of parts to build a system, now have to pay more than the price of the supply to get one overnighted from somewhere else.
Eventually I may get a refund from these guys.

4 out of 5 eggsNot to bad

This review is from: CORSAIR CXM series CX500M 500W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Great modular power supply for the money when creating a Budget rig.

Cons: PSU's 3.3v rail had a voltage drop of over .6 and started to show signs of instability 2 months in, However Corsair tech support RMA'd the psu immediately upon hearing of the voltage issue, no problems as of yet with #2

3 out of 5 eggsWorks fine, but loud

This review is from: CORSAIR CXM series CX500M 500W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Semi Modular:
The ATX cable and the CPU power cables are permanently attached, but let's face it, they will always be there so it's not a big issue. All the peripheral cables are modular

Cons: Louder than expected- This thing is so much louder than my 1000W Coolmax that's 5 years old. It's louder than my gaming rig when that rig is idling. It is by far, the loudest component in the server I built. But, it's on par with a high end graphic card fan at 60%, so it's not unacceptable (Phone said 50db at 3 ft).

Other Thoughts: As it's in a server, noise is a slightly bigger issue since it's on 24/7. There are quieter PSUs out there.

Pros: Nice modular power supply and a great price after rebate. The fan is so quiet that I worry it isn't working. Cables are plenty long.

2 out of 5 eggs24 PIN WONT FIT AGAIN???

This review is from: CORSAIR CXM series CX500M 500W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: It works at this time. hope it works forever after this ordeal.

Cons: you need to be handy to fit this to mobo; poorest qualtiy control on 24 pin; could destroy your mobo, scar your fingers.

Other Thoughts: My first corsair psu..This is the second unit though (a replacement for one that has 24 pin that can't be pushed in all the way- reason pin is 0.42mm wider than my previous psu that fits on all 4 motherboards . Yes I had to find and use my caliper to get to the bottom of the issue in the 3rd hr (3hrs)). 7days later, I got this replacement, I first measured it and this one is narrower by 0.05mm compared to my standard psu that fits, so happily, I proceeded in installing this one. Guess what, I could not fit this thing the same way as the first one. Tried to measure again. This one should fit due to given tolerance. 2hours- I did everything in my power not to split my motherboard or soldering in the board by resting my left fingers below the board while pushing the 24pin with my right hand- it never worked. If I forced it in, something is gonna give. Until...... I used a paperclip. I hope I don't need to return this one for any functional reason in the future.

3 out of 5 eggs"Good" PSU - Lousy 24 Pin latch

This review is from: CORSAIR CXM series CX500M 500W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Recently built a budget gaming PC
For what it's worth, it's a good little power supply
It's modular so cable management was a charm and it works for my needs. Pretty quiet too. My laptop is louder than it sooo works as advertised I guess.

Cons: BE WARNED:
This little bugger and the rest of the CX series is NOTORIOUS for having a terrible 24-pin latch (I learned that the hard way - Could not for the life of me get that bugger in for 2 hours WITH excessive force - luckily I had a pretty durable mobo with thick PCB)
Also I was told that the CX series used cheap CapXon (or whatever you call them) capacitors which makes the CX series pretty bad for your system. Though I'm quite surprised my CX PSU has been working well for me. Then again I've only had my system for about 2 weeks now at the time of this review....welp

Other Thoughts: If you're on a budget, it's a good psu. Really the CX is the only "flop" series that Corsair has to offer
My recommendation: if you have the cash, spend a little more on the AX or HX series....or find a different PSU in general
otherwise, buy this when it's on sale
It could work for you, it could not. It worked for me, but I do not lie when I say that attaching this PSU to my mobo was the most difficult part of building my computer
