The CORSAIR CX Series CX500M Modular power supply offers the flexibility of modular cabling, high reliability and low noise. 500W power output makes it perfect for your medium specification home or office PCs that do not have high numbers of components. The flexible modular cabling system lets you use only the cables you need, and 80 PLUS Bronze certified efficiency means less excess heat, lower noise, and lower power bills. The large-diameter, thermally controlled fan makes the CX Series Modular quieter at idle, and the large diameter reduces noise even when you’re pushing your system hard. And, the matte black finish, black-sleeved cables and black connectors help give your system a restrained, high-tech look.

  • newegg Modular Cabling System Get a cleaner-looking build and improved airflow with the modular cabling system. Since the peripheral power cables aren’t hard-wired to the power supply, you can connect only the cables you need for your exact configuration of PCI-E cards and storage devices. The rest of the cables stay in the box, and not in your PC’s case where they can add to the clutter and interfere with airflow.
  • newegg Reliable and Compatible Designed by Corsair’s California engineering team, built to the exact specifications and tested to strict standards, the CX Series Modular power supply is reliable for smooth operation and offers seamless compatibility for trouble-free installation.
  • newegg Compute quietly 80PLUS Bronze certification offers up to 85% energy efficiency for less heat generation. Less heat means less noise from the fan. The thermally controlled fan spins in response to the temperature for quiet computing at low load, and the large diameter reduces noise even at high load. Enjoy quiet computing.
  • newegg Black Goes with Everything You’re building a PC, not a battleship, and appearance counts. The matte black finish, black-sleeved cables and black connectors help give your system a restrained, high-tech look.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: looks good
modular

Cons: No 4-pin EATX12v cord.

Other Thoughts: Has every cord but the 4-pin EATX 12v. Motherboard will not post without it. Make sure you purchase one or your build will be on standby. Sure it will work after...

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: Never worked can't say.

Cons: DOA

Other Thoughts: DOA. Bought to replace my old ANTEC Smart Power 500W that lasted 8 years. Wouldn't work. Put in a 8 year old Raidmax 450W PS that came with the case but I barely used and it coughed out a bunch dust and powered up my old rig. See a lot of DOAs and negative reviews for Corsair PSs. What happened? The Corsair TX650 in my main rig has worked great for a couple years...

1 out of 5 eggsStay away from the CX series

Pros: None that I can see.

Cons: I opened up the box and instead of my PSU being rectangular, it's a parallelogram and the corners are all bent to hell. The box looks pristine, so it came from the factory this way and wasn't damaged during shipping.

Now I get to pay for shipping to return this piece and go find one in town. What a waste of time and money.

Other Thoughts: Spend the extra cash for a TX, HX, or AX, in 300+ builds I never had one problem with those.

4 out of 5 eggsFirst One Was Defective

Pros: I installed this in a new build. Ample power, quiet fan and modular power cables (MB cables are not modular). The attached and modular cables were long enough to properly route them in my CM HAF 912 case.

Cons: The first one I received blew up after three days. My mother-in-law heard a loud bang and saw a cloud of smoke rising out of my case. At the time my rig was in sleep mode. Thankfully, it didn’t fry any of my other components. So far the replacement is running fine. I have used Corsair products (PSUs and memory) in the past without any issues. However I still deducted one egg for poor quality control on this PSU.

Other Thoughts: Newegg would not RMA since I had already cut out the UPC code from the box for the rebate form. I’ve been ordering stuff from Newegg for years and this is the 1st time I've needed to request an RMA so I'm not happy they refused the RMA. A good portion of the products they sell come with rebates. In order to request the rebate you must cut out the UPC. You would think Newegg would have a better way of handling the issue other than just outright refusing the RMA. This didn’t affect my rating of the product but it does give me a negative impression of Newegg’s customer service.

I contacted Corsair and they sent a brand new replacement PSU. They also issued a pre-paid UPS label for the return shipping since the unit was only a few days old. They will cross ship the replacement if you give them a CC to place a hold on until they receive the defective unit back. I would have given the product a lower rating than I did but I understand that sometimes things do go wrong. Also Corsair’s customer service was polite and they processed the exchange efficiently which made the whole experience a little less stressful.

Pros: I am now a CORSAIR PSU person thanks to this little guy! I am absolutely in love with this power supply. Works great! Fairly high watts! Modular! Decent +12V Rail! Will defiantly buy the CORSAIR CX Series for all my next builds.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Buying another one for my current build!

4 out of 5 eggsA great PSU for micro ATX and up

Pros: I bought this for a friend, because he wanted to upgrade, so i chose this one and it is AMAZING. (Also to the guy below me, you probably either set it up wrong, used the wrong cables, or the psu was defective.)
anyways, this is a stable psu, it works, efficient. It came in undamaged, and really fast!

Cons: I had trouble plugin the 24 pin connect to my motherboard, which worried me a little but left it as is (i didn't get it to click).

Other Thoughts: I wish they came fully modular

1 out of 5 eggsKilled my SSD and Bluray drive

Pros: Came in a nice box

Cons: Bought a new case and this PSU and added a working Bluray drive and Vertex 2 SSD. Wouldn't boot with everything connected. Started removing components, got just the mainboard/ram to boot OK, determined it wouldn't boot with both the Bluray and the SSD plugged in oddly enough. Tried a different PSU and they both powered up fine. Went back to the Corsair and double checked all the connections. Next boot, smelled burning from my Bluray. Also noticed the power LED on my Vertex wasn't lit. Tested components in another machine and they are definitely dead now. Not sure what recourse I have, but this PSU is killing components and has cost me hundreds. Never had a problem like this before in over a hundred builds. Look elsewhere.
