1 out of 5 eggsFailed after 4 months of use

This review is from: CORSAIR RM Series RM850 850W ATX12V v2.31 and EPS 2.92 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Quiet, nice cabling, generally nice power supply when it is working.

Cons: After 4 months of use, it failed into a state where it constantly cycles the power on and off; if I remove power for a period of time and then start it runs a bit longer then starts cycling again, almost like there is a failure in the thermal sensor.

Other Thoughts: Not an inexpensive power supply. It's not under heavy load...8 hard drives, a Haswell board with integrated graphics...no graphics cards. Wouldn't not have expected this to fail under these conditions.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing PSU

This review is from: CORSAIR RM Series RM850 850W ATX12V v2.31 and EPS 2.92 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: -Mount on top or bottom of case (with the right case, works pefectly in the cheap but awesome Corsair 200R).

-Silent 95% of the time, and barely audible under heavy load. Seriously, the furnace/AC running in my house is louder than this PSU that I'm sitting right next to.

-If it was any cooler I'd have condensation.

-Good monitoring software

-More than enough cables for your builds

Cons: A little long, so would not advise for a micro ATX case.

Other Thoughts: Seriously , pair this with a Corsair case with a bottom vent (200R) From what I can tell, this setup isolates/eliminates PSU heat/airflow from the rest of your system.

1 out of 5 eggsForget Corsair!

This review is from: CORSAIR RM Series RM850 850W ATX12V v2.31 and EPS 2.92 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Runs fine as long as the fan doesn't kick on.

Cons: Fan finally kicked on and it clicks loudly and rapidly.

Other Thoughts: I bought this PSU several months ago. It is extremely efficient and quiet. The first two months I owned this the fan never came on. Once the fan did come it it clicks rapidly and loudly.

When I went to RMA this product with Corsair I wanted to do an Express RMA. This process puts a hold on my credit card and they ship out the product. Once I receive the product I would return the defective item. Zero down-time. But this option wasn't available. When I inquired I about why I was informed that they did not have any replacements in stock at the moment and that it would be the next day before they got any in. I waited a day and inquired about the express RMA again and they said it would be 30 days before they got more in. I have seen this pattern before.

I then asked how they were going to make me a satisfied customer and I was told they would give me a refund. I then found out that the refund process involves me sending the defective product to the then they would cut me a check within 4-6 weeks. That's 4-6 weeks of downtime. But we all know that in reality 4-6 weeks usually means anywhere from 2 months to 6 months. I am extremely dissatisfied by this companies customer service and I will never buy another product from them. They have lost a long time loyal customer. It's not just me having a problem either. Look at the warranty and RMA sections of their forums. There are tons of people being ignore or not being satisfied by their RMA process.

I'm a patient man but I won't be taken advantage of. I'm also fiercely loyal to brands that I think are worthy. This brand has proven to be untrustworthy and is no longer worth my time and money.

5 out of 5 eggsSuper quiet. Very modular

This review is from: CORSAIR RM Series RM850 850W ATX12V v2.31 and EPS 2.92 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Whisper quiet. Doesn't engage fan until over 40% system power. Very modular with MANY cables. If it doesn't come with it, you don't need it.

Cons: Not a BIG con, but I've always wondered why some companies don't just have a dedicated 24 pin.

Other Thoughts: Make sure your power connection is COMPLETELY seated. Sometimes it looks it, but it isn't. Use a tool to push on it to make sure it locks. I had 3 where I thought they were, but just to be sure I used a flat edge to push down on it and I heard the *click*.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome and quiet

This review is from: CORSAIR RM Series RM850 850W ATX12V v2.31 and EPS 2.92 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: -Very quiet, fan wont even turn on until loads get above 40%
-Modular cables are always a plus
-80+ Gold certification is a must.
-Has Corsair link but you need extra parts to make it work!

Cons: -Cables are flat, not weaved, some folks have problems with that, in my case it wasn't an issue. They were a little difficult to get around tight corners in the case, but they worked.

Other Thoughts: I was aiming to build a quiet yet fairly high powered system, that wouldn't eat up tons of energy just surfing the web, but could power through high end games. This power supply will easily handle all the peripherals you want, and two high end graphics cards to boot. Combine it with a Haswell processer, and an SSD for best results. It barely uses any power in most tasks, but can really crank during heavy loads.

System specs:

MSI Z87-G45
16 GB RAM
GTX 760 (soon to be 2)
Samsung 840 EVO SSD (120GB)

5 out of 5 eggsFINALLY...order got delayed >:[

This review is from: CORSAIR RM Series RM850 850W ATX12V v2.31 and EPS 2.92 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: A very competent power supply, running two cards SLI and on the X79 platform, smooth as butter.
I have had BAD luck with power supplies, even from a reputable company like Corsair I have had one come in DOA, there was a short in it. Had to cross my fingers extra hard but it paid off, praise Gaben.

Cons: Hard to find in stock, had to order from Corsair direct and it took for mother-freaking ever to get here.

Other Thoughts: I pay a lot of attention to review sites, there are tons of them out there.
By far the most helpful for me, when it comes to power supplies, is [H]ardOCP... I love that they are always honest about everything they review, but they will let you know in a HEARTBEAT if a PSU is really a dud.
This one delivers.

This review is from: CORSAIR RM Series RM850 850W ATX12V v2.31 and EPS 2.92 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: nice sleek shell, fully modular.

Cons: looking from the back I could see the electronic board warped, foam cushion off alignment therefore board was not seated correctly. Turns on for 2 sec then off then again.
Fan did not spin turn on. suspect bad assembly (china). Doa sort of.

3 out of 5 eggsA lack of documentation

This review is from: CORSAIR RM Series RM850 850W ATX12V v2.31 and EPS 2.92 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: It appears to be well built.

Cons: No documentation on hooking up cords was included, the connectors themselves are quite stiff and not particularly keen to bend.

Other Thoughts: No documentation was included in my box regarding hooking up the various cables to the various connection ports, so off I go to Corsairs website where I get 404 errors searching on this model. I ended up having to search 3rd party websites for confirmation on hooking up to my video card. All in all, not an impressive showing by Corsair.
