5 out of 5 eggsFor Those Silent Rigs Out There!! Can't go wrong!!

This review is from: CORSAIR RM Series RM850 850W ATX12V v2.31 and EPS 2.92 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: *Absolutely Silent - they weren't kidding!!! THE FAN WON'T MOVE UNLESS TRULY STRESSED
*Modular Design - I think this is the way to go these days to keep air flow & cable management at a premium
*Solid build construction
*Corsair Link compatible for even greater finite control!
*Incredibly stable voltages and handles everything like a champ!!!
*Professional packaging - to those that care. The cables came neatly packed in a dedicated pouch. Solid protection for shipping!!

Cons: *Corsair LInk Cable did not come with my review unit. Matter of fact, several of the Corsair products I've purchased or reviewed that had Corsair Link Capability seem to not come with the cable. Which is really disappointing. Corsair Link is a cool feature that users would find invaluable once enabled.

*Though I was unable to truly verify it appears that the +5v & -5v rails were a bit off of their targets according to CPUID HW Monitor app. Claiming just +4.435v and -6.400v respectively. With that said, CPUID looked to have trouble even reading the Gigabyte Z170 Gaming 7 board so take this observation as just that and not necessarily fact. Otherwise, this PSU has been rock solid. I'm impressed.

Other Thoughts: As running an 850W PSU was complete overkill for me, as a review item I tried my best to slap this thing around a bit. My rigs specs are the following:

Intel Core i5 6600K @ 4.1Ghz (mild overclock I know - max is 4.6 but I can't get it to run stable yet)
Gigabyte Z170x Gaming7 Motherboard
GeiL 16GB (4x4) DDR4 2400 Ram - Quad Channel
Samsung 850 Evo 250GB, FaSpeed 250GB SSD, 2x Seagate 750GB HDD, 2x WD Green 2TB HDD
MSI Radeon R9 370 2GB GDDR5 Video Card
Corsair H80i CPU Cooler

Not top of the line by any stretch but a decent machine to be sure. Again, my goal was to find out if/when the RM850's thermal sensors would start to initiate cooling and trip the fan on. With my trusty P3 meter at the wall I got to work.

System Boot peaked at 91w. No Fan. Next, I recently picked up Street Fighter 5 for PC since I don't own a PS4.
Street Fighter 5 Online Ranked peaked at 139w. No Fan. Next I fired up Project Cars, knowing it demands surpass SF5 by a lot.
Project Cars 10 minute prototype racing peaked at 175w. Still No Fan. Shocked... I wanted to see if the magic number was 200 or even higher. So in addition to running Project Cars, I fired up 6 instances of CPU Burn In and left all my browsers open. 186w later... still nothing. Finally... I ran 3D Mark Vantage benchmark which got me close to my 200w goal with 196w's at full load. And you guessed it... the PSU fan never spun up. Not even once! That feature is not just marketing guys blowing smoke, it's the real deal.

I'm sorry guys, wish I had a tougher rig to throw at this thing. Maybe I shouldn't of given away my FX-8350 ;) It could break 200w easy! lol But, there you have it. Those of you looking for performance, but most importantly silence look no further. With most of our rigs sitting between 50 & 100w on the daily I suspect the fan may only turn on a few times a year. Impressed. Indeed.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks as advertised

This review is from: CORSAIR RM Series RM850 850W ATX12V v2.31 and EPS 2.92 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Fan never runs. Super quiet. Does not belch heat like my last PSU. The modular connector cables make for a nice clean, not so cluttered installation. I am about to buy another one of these for my new build. 2 years old and still going strong!

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Highly recommend. I feel bad for not reviewing this earlier. Only reviewing now after making a second purchase of this product. Putting another one of these on my new build. I have spent the better part of 3 hours reviewing CPU's, MOBO's, RAM, GPU's. No need to read reviews on PSU's because I already know the best one.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat unit.

This review is from: CORSAIR RM Series RM850 850W ATX12V v2.31 and EPS 2.92 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: No issues with this product at all. I cant even hear the fan running, went with the 850 since i will be adding another gtx 850ti in the future. Good fit with cables and is great that I only use what I need to , gives it a clean neat look.

Cons: none.

Other Thoughts: Would purchase again.

5 out of 5 eggsA great PSU for the money.

This review is from: CORSAIR RM Series RM850 850W ATX12V v2.31 and EPS 2.92 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Stable power delivery -- handled several hard drives and two video cards with no problem. I like how quiet it runs -- if I unplug all my fans except for the CPU fan, I can't even tell the PSU is running. The Corsair Link feature sounds interesting and I'm sure that if I had the hub, it would be. I ended up removing that second video card because reasons, but I'm still very pleased with this power supply.

Corsair includes two EPS cables. If I can find a conventional ATX board with dual sockets, it's a realistic option to run it now. (And, yes, I am looking for a dual-socket LGA 1366 motherboard, because my Xeon needs a friend.) Oh, and there are three PCIe power cables, so if you have the yearning to do a triple SLI setup, you can.

The cables are nice and long so you can run them anywhere you might need to. That's nice.

Cons: There's no USB cable to connect the Corsair Link port directly to the motherboard. Boo. (Corsair makes one, but you'll have to buy it separately.)

The cables are a bit stiff and hard to work with.

For my NZXT H440, I wish there were straight SATA power connectors for certain areas inside the case.

Other Thoughts: I ended up cutting off some of the Molex connectors on one of the peripheral lines. Yeah, it's ugly, but it does make my cable run neater between the PSU and the USB 3.0 port card. Combined with quieter fans and a quieter GPU, I can hear myself think in front of my workstation now.

5 out of 5 eggsHeavy duty PSU with easy connectors

This review is from: CORSAIR RM Series RM850 850W ATX12V v2.31 and EPS 2.92 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Very heavy duty PSU with easy and clear push and click connectors. Everything labeled clearly and wires are very easy to manage. Would buy a Corsair PSU in the future for sure.

Cons: No Corsair Link cable included.

Other Thoughts: No reason not to buy it, especially with the $20 rebate (time sensitive). I bought this paired with a R9 390X and its running everything great!

5 out of 5 eggsGood PSU

This review is from: CORSAIR RM Series RM850 850W ATX12V v2.31 and EPS 2.92 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: I've had the PSU for a few weeks now and it is still doing it's job. No problems so far. I Love the modular and the fact I only use the cables I need.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: One thing to pay attention to is that this PSU is a little longer in length than other "normal" PSU's.

1 out of 5 eggsEarmuffs Required

This review is from: CORSAIR RM Series RM850 850W ATX12V v2.31 and EPS 2.92 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Fully modular
850 watts
Corsair quality
Nice cables

Cons: It is advertised as near silent operation, only using the fan when needed. This doesn't appear to be the case however. Note: I do not have corsair link so I can't control it's minute details.

The coil whine is insane on this power supply. I have closed back headphones and it pierces straight through them. I had a very silent machine, 980ti with fans off, all noctua with ULNA's. This new PSU sticks out like a sore thumb. And it's not just the whine, it sounds like it's clicking every so slightly too, like a cable is barely touching the fan inside. I'm going to order a Corsair link and see if I can just turn the fan off, if that doesn't fix it I'll just go back to my EVGA power supplies.

3 out of 5 eggsGood while it lasted

This review is from: CORSAIR RM Series RM850 850W ATX12V v2.31 and EPS 2.92 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Not too big for 850 watts, nice looking PSU, Modular is always a plus when trying to manage cables in a rig

Cons: This PSU lasted almost two years and died on me with no warning! Mother board is fine, processor is fine. The PSU and some of the cords just do not work anymore! Inquisitive Me wanted to have a look inside then realized, "Oh it was still under warranty!" Anywho, another $100.00+ down the drain.

Other Thoughts: I would stick with the Corsair Brand, but not this model.

5 out of 5 eggsGood choice of cable layouts

This review is from: CORSAIR RM Series RM850 850W ATX12V v2.31 and EPS 2.92 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: -Durable PSU
-Gold Certified
-Competitive Price
-Good design of their 12v power rails
-Modular, which is a must for cable management

Cons: -No cool looking zip up case for the unused cables

Other Thoughts: -The fan actually does not spin when the PSU is not running hard. Could reduce dust build up and extend the life. Not 100% sure I like that.
