1 out of 5 eggsyou pay for what you get

Pros: cheap

Cons: usb cable interface is very loose, had to play with it to get it to spin up. On the 4rd time I tried I plugged it in ... I have not been abel to get it to spin up.

1 out of 5 eggsIt Bytes

Pros: Comes with a USB cable and a 110 volt power cable. Also comes with 8 small screws which might someday be useful.
I suppose the 110 volt power adapter might be useful for something someday.

Cons: Tried 3 different drives (Western Digital and Seagate) and though all of them would spin up none of them were recognized by my computer(s). Besides not working as intended the overall design is poor. Another exercised in futility.

5 out of 5 eggssimple/affordable but still rock-solid and cool-running

Pros: **** rock-solid ****
Upon removing the enclosure from the box its heavy-duty aluminum body immediately got my attention. It was obvious that this unit was built to last and will be a very protective shell for my hard drive.

**** cool-running ****
Runs relatively cool even though it's fanless. In fact, I have a few Venus DS fan-equipped aluminum enclosures (widely regarded as classics and have served me well for years of non-stop use) that don't run as cool as this enclosure. This is surely due in no small part to the thick aluminum casing that basically acts as one big heat sink.

**** very compact ****
Despite being built like a tank, the profile of this enclosure is surprisingly compact. In fact, my main concern when I bought this enclosure was that its small size suggested to me that it might turn out to be a bit too lacking in durability. But in actuality, looks were totally deceiving in this case.

Cons: None.

(Note: I suppose the fact that the enclosure has no fan could be considered a con, but in light of what I said above about the heat dissipating properties of the heavy aluminum casing, I can't complain.)

Other Thoughts: I've heard complains that the drive is difficult or even impossible to remove once it's mounted in the enclosure, however, I've experienced no such problems. In fact, I use one of these enclosures as a means for hooking up hard drives with out rebooting -- i.e. I swap drives in and out of it very frequently -- and I've always been able to remove the drives with a minimum of fuss.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA - $18 to buy, $10 to ship back for replacement...

Pros: Nice case design, sure wish it worked...

Cons: First one was DOA - tried several working drives and none of them even spun up. Now I gotta pay $10 to ship it back and get another one that may or may not work.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: N/A - Didn't work so I can't give any feedback here.

Cons: N/A - Didn't work so I can't give any feedback here.

Other Thoughts: All I can really say is that you should call newegg when you return this product because otherwise they're going to charge you to both ship it back to them and to restock it. I'd strongly recommend just picking something that doesn't end up dead when it arrives.

5 out of 5 eggsVery good product

Pros: Well thought out design. Connections and power switch in back drive activity light in front. Bezel/drive rail component insures tight fit with connectors. USB and eSATA connections and cables. Snap fit latch could allow true hot swap. PS uses standard PC power cord.

Cons: I haven't seen the front bezel/drive rail offered separately.

Other Thoughts: As I read the reviews all the negatives are user problems. 40 pin connector? It's a SATA enclosure! The latches seem well designed, although the springs are not strong enough to eject the drive. You have give it a little pull to remove the drive. Any standard 3.5" drive should fit they're all either 1" or.83"

1 out of 5 eggsNo power connector for HDD? Srew-less hot swap?? None of these included!

Pros: None.

Cons: I don't know how other people are using this thing as IT DOESN'T HAVE A POWER CONNECTION INSIDE THE ENCLOSURE TO THE HDD. Also, it says it's "screw-less". Sure, after you USE SCREWS TO ATTACH THE HDD TO THE THING!!, that is. But if you want to use another HDD, you have to first unscrew the first one, then screw in the new one! Not exactly what one would expect.

Other Thoughts: Just a total piece of garbage and basically impossible to use without an actual power connection within the enclosure. I mean, really?? Maybe I just got the bad draw and they plunked in a board that doesn't have one for some reason. Otherwise, I really don't understand unless the 40-pin connector is supposed to run the power also.

DOESN'T EVEN DESERVE A 1 RATING.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat value

Pros: The case is easy to open and use and the power cord is long enough to stretch to a wall outlet and have it setting on you desktop.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I am running a Samsung F4 HD204UI 2TB drive and the case never gets hot. I have been running it for a week straight and its warm to the touch. I think people are having trouble not with the case but drives that heat up way to much. I was able to take the drive and plug it into my DVD player and watch movies right from the drive.

5 out of 5 eggsGood value

Pros: Looks good.
Keeps drive cool.
Fast (came with eSATA port).
Good quality base.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I thought this was great value for money. The unit is really slick looking and looks great on my desktop. To my surprise, it came with an eSATA port. Using eSATA, the thing is very snappy. Also, note that the box says it supports drives "up to 1.5TB", but I put a new WD Caviar Green 2TB drive in there and it works fine. Just finished backing up 750GB worth of video files last night.
