Cons: Power brick gave up.

1 out of 5 eggsDo NOT waste your time

Pros: Was delivered on-time

Cons: Do NOT use. This toasted the first drive I put in it. Was not sure if the drive was OK, so I placed in another case and had to re-format. Took a second drive and validated it was functioning in another case. As soon as I placed it into this Bytecc unit and powered it up, it wiped the partition.

Other Thoughts: Fortunately, the drives did not get permanently damaged. However, there is something seriously wrong with this unit. This is the first Bytecc product that has failed me. Look elsewhere.

2 out of 5 eggsBad for me

Pros: Docking station with USB Hub & Media Card reader in one. Has support for esata and usb (sorta...)

Cons: Seems like this was a great idea on paper but who ever design this needs to be replaced....

For my system, (Server 03) it was unable to view the hard drive via esata with the usb plugged in. My computer has 2 esata out via the same channel, and I know that works because I undocked the hdd and was able to do a direct plug in to the same esata cable that was going into the dock (used an esata to sata cable do to this)

As another user stated, the USB is NOT powered via usb, you have to turn on the entire unit, which means you either have to disconnect all drives (each media port comes up as a drive) if you want to remove a hard drive OR you have to remove the hard drive while its Spinning.... lame

Oh, this device supports 2.5 & 3.5 hard drives, however to use a 3.5 you have to remove the spacer block, to use 2.5, your "suppose" to put it back. Why can't this have a fold-able flap like others so you dont have to lose pieces....

Other Thoughts: I will admit, some times it would work with the USB and Esata plugged in, it should work ALL the time. I have had this pc for over a year and I tested with different esata cables to make sure it was this docking station that was the problem. I am hopefully returning this to newegg.

I noticed another user had no problems. I hope it works for you. I have bought other items from Bytecc that I love so I dont think this company is trash, just this product.

3 out of 5 eggsfair but one little detail

Pros: 2.5 or 3.5 SATA docking bay
multiformat card reader
2 usb ports (unfortunately non powered!!)

Cons: No power to the USB ports, so when 1, let me repeat that, when 1 external usb powered hard drive is plugged in, the power shuts off to the docking hard drive and everything else rendering it useless for what i wanted to do.

Huge base, and light. everytime i would move my laptop the thing would move. I was always afraid of it falling off the table

Other Thoughts: why are the usb ports non powered? we would have been perfect for each other but you had no power to your usb ports :'(

4 out of 5 eggsIts Handy

Pros: It works nicely, just plug and play and drop in a drive. It also acts as a USB hub and media card reader. I can now use all my extra SATA drives that were just sitting around.

Cons: The base is large enough that I feel they could have put the transformer inside it. The extra weight would keep it from moving around on the desk as much and this would make the power cord simpler.

The OTB (one touch backup) program is a little to simple, It did not let me select multiple locations to back up.

Other Thoughts: I had to, one by one, disable the card slots in device manager that I don't use. This keeps it from displaying so many drive letters. I added the SD slot back in since it is the only one I do use.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks well, but...

Pros: All functions of this dock work and work well. Looks sleek.

Cons: USB cable is kinda short--only about 38" or so, though the power cabling is long enough for my needs. These units should include a dust cover for the drive slot when not in use.

Other Thoughts: Power through USB is always on, even if power switch in back is off. On either of my comps this means it powers some case lighting for some reason. Maybe this is due in part to the unit having USB hub functioning--for remote control devices or something. The dock has to be unplugged if you don't want that power feed back through USB. Don't know if this happens with eSATA only connected. I don't have eSATA hookup yet on either comp. However, when connected to my powered USB hub, the power flow back to comp is stopped, but another, non-powered hub lets it through.
