1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I love the concept too. It should make it really easy to swap drives.

Cons: I have tried this on 7 different computers, all different op systems. But, I just can not get this thing to work. $28 wasted!

Other Thoughts: I wish I would have bought the other (big name) brand.

2 out of 5 eggsWorked well until it died...

Pros: I love the concept; it makes it really easy to swap drives, whether they be 2.5 or 3.5. Some people don't like the LEDs but I don't mind them.

Cons: It died after a week...

Other Thoughts: I'm RMAing and will report back after I've had the new one for a few weeks

2 out of 5 eggsDied after 10 months

Pros: Nice idea and came with USB3, but I never upgraded my system to USB 3 so can't speak to the speed.

Worked well for a while ...

Cons: It stopped working after around 10 months. The lights powered on, but the drives didn't get power. Tried several drives.

Other Thoughts: Wasn't as convient as I thought it would be. Takes up a lot of space and extra cables laying around.

I think I'll get a drive caddy next time.

Pros: i can mount any of my laptop hard drives on both linux and windows boots up fast and efficiently has not unmount at all like my other external hard drive

Cons: after about two days there was a short in my power cord and i have never used the power cord same thing happened to my external hard drive

Other Thoughts: hopefully i dont get anymore shorts in my power cords

1 out of 5 eggsBad Experience with this one.

Pros: None

Cons: Never worked for me. Windows could see the dock but none of my drives. Tried it in usb 2.0 & 3.0 ports a got the same result. Blue LED's are very annoying. Way too bright. Flip down "door" seemed a little cheap. Upon inspecting the circuit board I found 2 locations that solder spanned between connections on the board that it shouldn't. The oval design is very space inneficient.

Other Thoughts: I picked up the VANTEC NST-D300S3 as an alternative and it seems to be of much better quality. It also has a nice eject button and much higher quality on/off button. Also, no absurd quantity of mega-bright led's.

4 out of 5 eggsbig but works

Pros: simple, not too flashy, works reliably.
significantly faster than USB 2, which really matters when moving lots of big files (pictures, video), but
nowhere near the USB3 spec.
No problems with Windows 7 or Vista.

Cons: a little bigger than I wanted. 2nd 'bay' is just a blank for storage of another drive (not functional). The blue line with red center around the base is just another distraction. (Why does everything HAVE to glow?)

Other Thoughts: I'd buy it again, as is, but I'd love it if both bays were functional. The dummy bay is tempting to use for "other stuff" like pens, clips, etc., but probably not a good idea...

5 out of 5 eggsNice Unit

Pros: This unit is faster than USB 2.0 but not quite as fast as advertised. Transfer speeds often start of b/w 60-82 MBps but steadily decline as transfer continues, especially with large files or folders. I use it primarily to back up large blocks of data and it is definitely faster than my old 2.0 enclosure.

Cons: Transfer speed slows as transfer continues.

Other Thoughts: No prblems with connection, LED, heat, noise, any of that. If you don't let the HD rest in the unit for about 2-4 minutes after you've "Safely removed drive", drive will have a medium to strong magnetic field around it for a few minutes. Feels weird but doesn't damage drive. I'm sure this is true of all enclosures when removing a drive too soon after being "hot". Would've preferred the dual enclosure but they weren't available when I bought this one in 01/2010. Oh yeah, NEW EGG dominates all with shipping, returns and discounts. Thanks NewEgg!

2 out of 5 eggsDoes not work with the WD 3TB WD30EZRSDTL

Pros: it's USB 3.0 and is plenty fast

Cons: 3TB WD shows as only 746.39GB and not 2794.39GB "Full" size; the drives wiggle around in the case when you slide them in; has no button to 'eject' them like some others have

Other Thoughts: Even with all the problems it works ok most of the time (before drives larger then 2TB came out)

1 out of 5 eggsDon't Buy

Pros: None

Cons: No improvement in speed. Slower than SATA II. Died on me after 6 weeks and replaced with another brand. Major difference.

4 out of 5 eggsSimply Fine

Pros: Convenient, easy to use. Does the job as expected.

Cons: Only one I/O option (USB). I would love to have an 800 FW port. There is a lot more plastic than seems necessary. There's a slot that looks like it would hold a second drive, but it's really just a weird little extra space. Could do better to isolate vibration.

Other Thoughts: This is certainly a better alternative to the previous external hard drive docks I've owned that require a screwdriver to mount the drive. It performs adequately as advertised, though I've since seen others that I like a little better. It could use a little shock padding to avoid transmitting vibrations of the drive to my desk and creating a big hum.
