5 out of 5 eggsPerfect for my purpose

Pros: -easy to use
-great price
-worked perfectly for my needs
-RAID1 increased read speeds significantly

Cons: -front panel looks cheap

Other Thoughts: I have a few 500GB 2.5" drives I bought for ultra cheap a while back. I wanted to connect them to my Linux NAS and backup critical files from all devices on the network. This fit my needs perfectly. It was very simple, basically plug and play.

5 out of 5 eggsGood and fast

Pros: Small, quiet, and fast transfers with USB 3.0

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: I use it as non-RAID, 2 separate drives. I like it because it is small, fast, and in case of the enclosure failure, I can remove drives and put in another enclosure and get data no problem; some other "raid" enclosures don't allow you to do this. I don't know if that would be the case if you operated this as a raid setup, but for 2 separate drives, it would be easy to get data if enclosure ever failed. I do a manual copy to other hd, so I have a backup on another drive, because just in case I mess up a file, I don't want it to mess up both files, and also I am not sure if enclosure failed with a raid setup, how easy it would be to get data off drives; I will try it in the future, though.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: RAID!

Cons: Assembly - There were no directions on how to install the disk. It seemed like I wasn't matching up the SATA connectors properly because I couldn't get it to seat. Turns out there's a lever on the door for each drive that seats/unseats the disk in that bay but there's no mention of that anywhere in the 1 page of documentation that comes with the unit. I had the whole thing disassembled before I realized what the problem was. Once I reassembled it I had it working in about 5 minutes.

Other Thoughts: Awesome unit at a good price! I've been looking for something just like this for awhile and haven't found much else. Saved me hundreds of dollars building a small file server and still provides redundancy.

1 out of 5 eggsBarely an OK little box, but picky.

Pros: Small, light weight and portable.
I bought this for my girlfriend's son for a Christmas present. He's home on holiday leave from the military and the idea was to give him a fast and portable drive for file sharing with his buddies.
I didn't experience the drive fit problems that have been mentioned.

Cons: The RAID controller is very picky, even flawed. I installed a mismatched pair of 120GB SSDs and had a very hard time trying to get both drives recognized. RAID 0 only revealed 120GB capacity and JBOD would not see any SSDs.
Being mismatched SSDs, I thought this might be at the root of the problem so I swapped in a matching pair of SSDs. No difference.
In the end the only configuration that worked was non-RAID.
Have you ever had to explain that the present you gave wasn't what it was supposed to be?
To me the biggest issue is that my late 2012 MacBook Air (with USB 3.0 ports) didn't recognize the enclosure. Closer examination of the outside of the packaging makes no note of Mac compatibility.

Other Thoughts: Like I said, my girlfriend's son is back home on military leave. That means that I don't have the time for an RMA, assuming that I got a bad unit and this isn't a design flaw.
He still has 240GB of SSD storage, but in 2 volumes instead of the faster RAID 0 single volume.
My Lenovo U400 Ultrabook dual boots to Win7 and Unbutu. Sometimes I boot to Linux to solve tough drive issues. Booted to Unbutu and it wouldn't see the enclosure or drives installed in it, both mismatched and matched SSDs.
That fact, along with my Mac not recognizing the enclosure leads me to believe that Bytecc used an obscure, even flawed drive controller.
I gave it 1 egg because at least the full storage is available in non-RAID mode.

Thanks for my virtual son's Christmas experience Bytecc.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Device

Pros: I have to say that this is one of the sweetest drivebays. It took me about 30 seconds to get it working and using it right away. I am just using it non raid as 2 drives and it works great. Transfer speeds are wonderful. I highly recommend it.

Cons: I didnt find any although I am not using it in a raid situation.

5 out of 5 eggsBYTECC BT-M252U3 2.5" Black USB 3.0 2.5" Dual-Bay RAID 0/1 SuperSpeed USB 3.0 to Sata External Hard Drive Enclosure

Pros: Solid product. Works as advertised. It will only take the thinner 2.5, but that is most of the newer drives. I like it very much. I did 46.4Gb transfer in 18min 50sec. 2.47gb/m. Not great but better than USB 2.0

Cons: keeping other tech fingers off the raid switches. Locking design might be better. Once switches are moved all data is lost.

Other Thoughts: I will buy an other one. I would and have recommended this unit.

2 out of 5 eggsundecided

Pros: RAID 1, JBOD, no RAID work as fast as a single disk. Works with USB 2.0. Seems relatively well made.

Cons: RAID 0 is not faster than any other mode on USB 2.0, only getting maximum 20MBps writes and 30MBps reads, same for all modes. ATTO 2.46 used for benchmark.

Other Thoughts: Can only hope it operates faster on USB 3.

3 out of 5 eggsCheap construction, works OK

Pros: USB 3.0 backward compatible with 2.0,
Seems to work OK so far.

Cons: The internal is miserable.

Loose plastic components weren't even aligned properly. I nearly broke something when I first try to push the hard drive in. I had to unscrew the backplane and eyeball the alignment of the SATA sockets. (-1 egg)

Then I saw that some solder points of the backplane / converter are very close to touching the aluminum casing, and there was nothing in between! I had to use dielectric tape to insulate the solder points just in case. (-1 egg)

Other Thoughts: Compare to other 2.5 raid casing, this is quite cheap. But you have to be a veteran DIYer to make it work properly.

1 out of 5 eggsBYTECC BT-M252U3

Pros: Specs say it's nice.

Cons: Only accepts 9.5mm drives.

Other Thoughts: Worthless junk to me. Would really have been nice for the description to mention that it won't hold 1 TB drives.
