1 out of 5 eggsBad design. Broke almost immediately.

Pros: Lots of connections - USB 3, FireWire 800, eSATA

Cons: The drive eject mechanism broke the third time I ejected a drive. That part is made of really cheap plastic. I had to take apart the unit to get my drive out.

Other Thoughts: While it worked, it worked as advertised.

3 out of 5 eggsDoor bows out

Pros: N/A

Cons: My upper drive would not insert fully, and the door would bow out. Turns out a piece of double-sided tape was preventing the disk from sliding all the way in. I disassembled the unit and removed the tape, and now the disk slides all the way in.

4 out of 5 eggsBYTECC BT-M260U3F

Pros: Very simple pretty much bullet proof. I got mine as an open-box buy at a reduced price. It came with all but eSATA cable. Directions explain different RAID configurations (configured with a dip switch not software). Apparently works as fast as my internal drive; I have not measured the speed this is just what I can observe from usage. Read through the directions, installed the hard drives & configured the RAID, connected the cables and partitioned , formatted & loaded the OS (Ubuntu 11.04 amd64); it took less than 1/2 hour.

Cons: 1) no esata cable had to purchase separately. 2) did not come with Linux drivers so the installation disk was pretty much useless to me but fortunately the drivers that come with Linux (apache2) work extremely well but I have no basis for comparison to know which works better. 3) It is not apparent how the drives are oriented when you install them in the drawer you have to use a flashlight to look and see how the connectors line up as another reviewer was saying that the "drawers doors were bowed out" He had his drive in upside down. Don't force -- the drive does install very positively (which I like).

Other Thoughts: I'm using two Western Digital Scorpio Black wd5000bpkt 500GB 7200 RPM 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Notebook Hard Drive -Bare Drive in a RAID0 configuration with an eSATA connection to my computer (unfortunately my computer doesn’t support firewire or USB 3.0). When I upgrade my computer I would like to buy a second set up like this one and use as a RAID10. Final thought -- Ubuntu comes with a disk utility and you can use it to benchmark your drive speed before you format your drives it can be done from the live disk before you install and will save the data.

1 out of 5 eggs2 of 3 bad

Pros: The *CONCEPT* is exactly what I was looking for- dual slot 2.5", thermostatically controlled fan, usb. I already had an older unit (BT-B260U3) before ordering three of these (BT-B260U3F)

Cons: TWO of the three units I ordered were defective right out of the box. One unit had no USB response at all. The second unit had a broken eject mechanism on one of the two slots. The third unit works, but the eject mechanism is suspect, as if it is going to break soon. I have no confidence the third unit will survive.

Other Thoughts: I decided to keep one as a backup for a different model I bought earlier that works great (the BT-M260U3). I would have bought another of those, but they were discontinued and I had to buy the more expensive "F" model, even though I did not want firewire or ESATA.

Newegg's *EXCELLENT* customer service immediately understood my issues and not only issued a refund so I could buy something different, but waved the restocking fees and return shipping costs! Although I am upset about the products, I can't possibly be more pleased with how NewEgg handled it!

1 out of 5 eggsmight be okay if it lasted more than 5 min

Pros: Accepts two 2.5" SATA drives, does JBOD/Span/RAID0/RAID1, supports SATA Port Multiplier.

Cons: Lasted five minutes, then it bit the big one.

Assuming this thing actually works for you... the tension springs on the door that load the drive into the SATA connector are *way* strong to the point where it's hard to close the door on the drive and the door actually bows outward a bit. Makes you think the drive isn't loaded correctly, and you're one push away from breaking something.

Other Thoughts: Didn't buy it here. Shouldn't have bought it at the local store I bought it from.
