5 out of 5 eggsSo Happy

Pros: just hook it up it works simple, I love this.
I cant find the words I am so Happy
Don't need a boot order, just boot them and start switching !

Cons: Not A Dam Thing !

Other Thoughts: For so long I went with out because of HDMI and my older
DLINK KVM's Worked but, were a little Pain, you really had to boot in order. this I figured for the price I could not go wrong, well it works great, even the front audio and Mic jacks work perfect and the fact that there is a usb connecter also allows me to use my web cam on all 4 systems.
I have been buying BYTECC for a long time now starting with my first usb 2.0 hard drive enclose and there products always worked. all I can say is Hats off to BYTECC for making some of the best reliable products for a very fair price. even my 3D is working through the HDMI connectors.
Love it just buy it and watch how fast you come back to leave a smoking review.....

5 out of 5 eggsWorks fine!

Pros: I have it connected to a mixture of Windows and Linux workstations. It works fine. Does what it says it'll do on the box. I like the convenience of being able to plug speakers into the KVM.

Cons: I wish the speaker jack was on the rear.

Other Thoughts: It worked so well that I'm getting three more for my lab, one for the house, and one for a remote office (to replace a 15 year old KVM)

3 out of 5 eggsWorks but loses track of video when switched to other computer

Pros: * Fast switching - ~ 1 second
* Comes with all cabling
* Works fine with my keyboard and mouse
* Supports my monitor resolution - 1920x1200

Cons: * Loses track of the video signal of any computer that you don't switch to every 15 minutes or so, or however long it takes to sleep the video.
* To fix this on my HDMI output Windows PC, I have to reach around the back of the KVM and unplug the HDMI cable from the PC and plug it back in, this renegotiates the video signal and the screen lights up. Sometimes the PC has reset the screen to 1024x768 and I have to reconfigure the screen resolution to 1920x1200.
* Reseating the video cable on my Windows PC with DVI doesn't help, the laptop screen goes blank like it thinks it's sending a display to the remote monitor, but the monitor never lights up and remains a blank screen. Also logging out and logging back in doesn't help. I have to reboot to make it talk to the display again.
* On my Macbook Pro, all I have to do is open and close the Macbook, this is sufficient to renegotiate the display and it lights up with the proper resolution every time.

Other Thoughts: Although it comes with all the cables, I didn't use the cables that come with it. I have an HDMI monitor and:

* 1 Windows desktop PC with HDMI.
* 1 Windows laptop with mini-DVI (HP Elitebook)
* 1 Macbook Pro with mini-DisplayPort.

I used special cables with HDMI on one end and whatever the other digital format is on the other end, these cables work perfectly and avoid converters which otherwise could degrade the signal or get lost or broken.

In summary, it is OK, it works, but it's inconvenient enough that I am currently looking for a replacement that doesn't lose track of the video when switched to another computer output.

5 out of 5 eggsNice KVM

Pros: Works with Linux, Windows XP and a Win7 Laptop. I used a passive display port to hdmi cable (N82E16882850081) with it and a standard usb cable for the laptop and that worked great. USB is a 2.0 hub with an onboard audio that appears as a USB device that can be turned on or off. I used on of the kvm cables for the console and that worked fine. Cables are about 5ft long. I haven't tried the audio yet... Logitech keyboard and mouse appeared as the actual devices on USB list.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: No more PS/2 and multiple mice!!

Worth it!

4 out of 5 eggsWorks fine with one caveat

Pros: Everything has been working just fine...once I figuredout how to operate the critter.

Cons: The caveat I mention is that if you have more than one computer hooked up, and not all are turned on, you have to awitch the KVM to the one you want to boot up...***before you turn it on***. Otherwise, you get a faulty boot with error messages. Nothing in the manual led me to this direction...I found it almost by accident. If it is in the manual it needs to be made much more clear than it is, and with heavy emphasis. That is, 'switch the KVM to a machine you want to boot up before you turn the machine on.'

Once all machines are turned on...with the above technique, you can switch around amoing them with no problems.

I don't know why the unit was built this way but with how well it works I'll forgive them...for now. Other KVMs I've used didn't care about booting a machine up and then switching to it. But I probably won't buy another of theirs unless thay do change this trait.

Another thing I didn't care for was that the indicator lights are way to bright...they are a big distraction; at least for me. I started covering them with something opaque to cut the distraction. I don;t need to see thie indicators unless I'm doing some kind of troubleshooting of the system.

Other Thoughts: Others folks' opinions may vary and differ. Their choice entirely.

4 out of 5 eggsBYTECC KVM-4UHM

Pros: This unit has been operating flawlessly since I got it figured out. But it took a while to get it there. I nearly returned it.

Cons: Lousy manual instructions on booting machines hooked to it.

Other Thoughts: I had a lot of the same problems as the reviewer with the comment titled 'Frustrating setup'.

I found that to use it, you have to switch it to the machine you are going to boot up through it, ***before turning the machine on.***. This only applies to the first boot for each machine. Once all machines up to its limit are booted completely, you can switch around as you wish with no problems. I've been using 4 machines with no troubles.

I did not see anything to this effect in the manual; and I strongly think it should have been there. Of course, it could have been the wording, but I don't really think so. The manual should havew specifically stated to switch it to a machine you are going to boot...***before turning the machine on***.

I've recopmmended the unit to several friends, but only with this caveat.

I think Bytecc needs to learn how to better write manuals. They need to take the bean-counters out of the shop and put techs and engineers back in charge.

1 out of 5 eggsUseless Junk

Pros: Cheaper than the others that use HDMI

Cons: Too bad it doesn't work. On initial installation, it worked as advertized, but if a monitor ever goes to sleep mode, it can't be retrieved. I reset BIOS on may computers several different ways to prohibit sleep modes and did the same with the operating system. nothing seems to work.

Other Thoughts: The remote is not reliable, it often takes several button presses to get the switch to change between ports. If you need this type of device spend more and hopefully you will get one that works. The review system won't accept zero eggs.

1 out of 5 eggsWish it worked for me...

Pros: HDMI KVM for cheap.. Came with cables.

Cons: Does not work with ANY (5 monitors total - 4 different models from 3 different vendors - tested on 2 different laptops, 2 different desktops) of my monitors,,, However, it does work with my TV, which doesn't work for me and is not why it was purchased. What makes me more upset is that my system(s) show it as an active connection, including the proper model number and vendor description.. Not sure what makes my TV so much different.

Other Thoughts: I really wish this thing worked.. price is very reasonable and installation/connection was simple.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Cheap and relatively small as a KVM box.

Cons: After using this unit for over a month, it's starting to get flaky, as one other reviewer pointed out. It'll skip over some of the ports when switching with the button on front. The only way to get it back operating normally is to pull all of the USB cables, from where it's drawing power, and then plug them back in.

3 out of 5 eggsFrustrating setup

Pros: Going from analog VGA to HDMI is a noticeable difference in quality. Comes with 4 combo HDMI+USB cables for PC's. Comes with power adapter (which is unneeded unless connecting high power USB devices on the front, such as a backlit keyboard). KVM runs off of USB power from PC's for switching. I am able to connect a wireless logitech mouse receiver and non-backlit USB keyboard without needing to use the power adapter.

Cons: 1. I have never had such a difficult time getting a KVM to work. I finally resorted to the manual and following the instructions explicitly. Mouse and keyboard were working but no video was displaying. I had to turn everything off, set the KVM to the first computer, boot fully, switch to next computer, boot fully, etc. I can only imagine what happens if I get a power failure or turn off all the computers and have to repeat this annoying process.
2. Does not come with HDMI cable from KVM to monitor.
3. Instructions are terrible. I had no sound until figuring out to press the sound button on the front of the KVM to get it off of headphones.
4. I thought going to HDMI would reduce the desktop clutter of the big VGA cables. It doesn't because the included cables are extremely thick and stiff. However, any USB and HDMI cable could be used, not just a proprietary cable like most KVM's. So either longer, shorter, thinner, etc. cables could be purchased and used.
4. Switching appears to be by remote or button only. The BYTECC website indicates this KVM will switch with caps lock + caps lock + number key of the device (1 to 4). This is false. It does not switch off of keyboard as BYTECC claims. Interestingly, Newegg states the 2-port model of this device can be switched by hotkey. For this 4-port model, that is missing from the item description despite the fact it's on the Bytecc website. However, don't get your hopes up. Keyboard switching does not work.

Other Thoughts: Try to find a 4 port HDMI KVM at this price. Everything else is nearly double, or more. But those devices may work a little better.
