4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works well for transferring data from laptop HDDs to a desktop computer without having to connect to the desktop internal IDE connector.

Cons: included USB cable is cumbersome to use, if the HDD is swapped frequently the plastic tabs the screws screw into will strip and break but the device overall is still functional.

5 out of 5 eggsWow!

Pros: Owned one of these cases for about 2 years now, Can't believe they still sell.
Rugged little case, lasted longer than the first drive I put in there (20g) and is working quite well with my new one (60g) No problems with the connection speed nor power. worked well with vista and XP computers with little downtime.

Cons: one of the plastic screw mounts on the front broke off. but it holds the cover snug still.

Other Thoughts: I used a band of electrical tape on the midsection of the HDD as it does move around a tiny bit. not to worry I like having enough room to be comfortable. and it's a easy fix.

2 out of 5 eggsBytecc ME enclosure

Pros: Really none cause it was not compatible with Vista.

Cons: Not compatible with Vista, you get what you paid for, lesson learned. Case will not hold the hardrive inside, felt it was moving.

Other Thoughts: I sent the product for refund and ordered an Next Star enclosure , 100% recommended. Comes with everything you need, Fully compatible with Windows Vista or XP. FAST transfer rate, very nice looking, much more tough, and secure the hardrive all the way around. It can get better than this, best bang for the buck.

5 out of 5 eggsRefund

Pros: Fast refund procedure, no problem on the speed of the process.

Cons: Need more explanation of that product in specific.

Other Thoughts: The replacement bought after that one, came pretty fast no problem the external enclosure was fully compatible.

5 out of 5 eggsNice encloser

Pros: Cheap, easy to install. Works fine on any USB if you connect a 5vdc to it. A external power supply is the secret to this enclosure.

Cons: You will have to get power supply. On some unpowered USB the drive will never be accepted by the host computer. My HP notebook runs it fine without P/S.

Other Thoughts: Nice construction. You will have to have a 0 phillips or a small pen knife to get the screws in that hold the enclosure together.

1 out of 5 eggsjunk!!!!

Pros: worked for a while

Cons: dead now

Other Thoughts: This worked for about a total of....2 hours of use. This will now not read any drive. I have tried the supplied USB cable, another cable, external power; just about any configuration I can think of. All it does now is spin the drive for about 1 second and them click and it then starts over. Don't waste your cash on this!!

4 out of 5 eggsCheap, but it does the job

Pros: Inexpensive. On one of my machines it only requires one USB port, but that may just be my specific drive. Very basic clean design.

Cons: Seems flimsy. The enclosure doesn't seem to have any supporting material to keep the drive from rattling. There were no instructions, but if you're buying this, it is assumed you know what to do with it.

Other Thoughts: Worth the price, does what it's supposed to.

2 out of 5 eggsDoesn't last long

Pros: Cheap.

Cons: I don't use this very often, just bought an 80G IDE drive to plug it into and for backups. After a few months I found the connector doesn't work any more. It will power the drive but will not make a connection to the OS unless the case is removed and just the pcb is plugged in. The problem is the black plastic cover to the pcb, the mini-usb recess is too deep and will not allow a full connection unless it's out of the aluminum case and bent a bit back.

Other Thoughts: Buy another case that is a little more expensive. It will last a lot longer with less grief.

5 out of 5 eggsWorked great for me!

Pros: Great pricing, and easy drive installation. Worked great with a 120Gb Hitachi laptop HDD. Ordered on Sunday evening, shipped out on Monday and had it in hand on Thursday afternoon.

Cons: Hard drive was loose inside the case, so it could rattle around making the foam tape in the end cap useless. I am sure that if a drive was allowed to flop around after a while the card or connector would give out simply from the mechanical manipulation.

Other Thoughts: To limit the drive movement I cut off a piece of an eraser stick (for a mechanical pencil) and put two small wedges of eraser under the drive between the case and the corner of the drive frame. No more rattle!!! Cheap fix as well.
