1 out of 5 eggsDoesnt Work

Pros: Well its easy to hook up the ide drive to it

Cons: Once hooked up and connected to router or hooked to the usb port Win XP doesn't know it exists.

Other Thoughts: I KNOW the hd is good. I hooked it directly to PC and formatted it just before I put it in the enclosure. I installed the software and put in the id #. Its powered up just can't make windows see it at ALL.

4 out of 5 eggsGood little enclosure!

Pros: Didn't take long to setup. Thanks to previous reviews. Thanks guys :)
Windows 7 and XP have a shared network drive. Exactly what my mother needed. This will be easier for her than going through homegroup/network shares.

Cons: I'm bad about reading manuals. So when the software/manual said that the device Id and Key were on the bottom of the enclosure, I believed it LOL! I was about to remove the chip, and look under that, but I looked on the first page of the manual, and noticed it right inside the book on a sticker. There are ways of obtaining it via command prompt, and some other softwares though. But I'll be sure and not lose it!
The enclosure is a fairly tight fit. Careful with drives under warranty. It tried to scratch the seagate hard drive sticker! No problem for me, because this drive is WAYYY outdated. It's also only a temporary. I plan on a WD 5000AAKB drive for replacement.

Other Thoughts: Windows 7 recognized it right after installing the software, and registering the drive. XP on the other hand, I had to install a driver. No biggy. I told it to look on the included CD-Rom, it took care of it. It's transferring files as I type :D

Would probably buy another, but since it's limited to IDE drives, I don't know. An IDE to Sata chip may not fit in there. Or be compatible for that matter. For the price though, I don't regret buying it. Wish there were more enclosures at a fair price :(

3 out of 5 eggsWatch out with Windows 7

Pros: Cheap solution that works fine with proper drivers

Cons: Ships with old version of NDAS software for Windows which cause blue screen crashes in Windows 7.

Manual is difficult to understand, and tiny print doesn't help!

Other Thoughts: Once I downloaded and installed the updated NDAS software from, the crashes ceased. See previous review for more info on obtaining drivers.

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent product

Pros: Small size, FAST data transfer on LAN. Far better than any other NAS solution offered.

Cons: Micro-Sized manual not layed out simply.

Other Thoughts: Does require small SW even for running on LAN

3 out of 5 eggsEasy to setup, but be prepared for set up problems

Pros: Ease of setup on USB or one PC LAN use, solid construction, and fairly useful manual.

USB2 (2GB/min+) and LAN (750MB-1GB/min) is pretty fast.

Works with G wireless (D-Link 614.)

Doesn't crash once setup.

Cons: * Have to install software to get it to work on the LAN.
* Locks up for a few seconds under heavy use.
* No online support.
* Cannot R/W with more than one Apple PC.
* Difficult R/W set up with multiple machines.
* Driver software is not their own.

Other Thoughts: Since the software is not theirs you have to go to a seperate site for the most up to date drivers and actual sofware support (

Out of the box it does not support Linux, but you can get the drivers at the site metioned above.

If you are going to put in a new HD, I suggest you format it prior to putting it in the case. It took 6 hours to do a complete format on a 320GB drive through the LAN.

Set up the drive as a simple parition otherwise, it will give you headaches.

Even if it sounds like I am complaining, once set up, the product works great!
