1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: NONE

Cons: DONT BUY THIS. This is an antique piece of worthless junk that doesn't work today. It is for 2000/me98/ OSX9.2/10.1. Can't believe it is still being sold. Going in trash can.

3 out of 5 eggsIt worked for a good bit, then it gave up the ghost.

Pros: -It worked.
-It got good speeds for a USB 2.0.
-Very handy for a portable drive.

Cons: -Speeds began to stutter at around 8 months. They starting becoming slow and clunky.
-Computer would not recognize the USB device after the 12 month mark, stating the maximum. (Linux, Windows, BIOS, PS3, 360, nothing can detect it)

Other Thoughts: Simply put, it did it's job for a very small amount of time. Would not recommend this product to a friend anymore due to poor manufacturing.

I did not misuse this device at all. It simply broke.

3 out of 5 eggsBeware

Pros: Small, cheap, aluminum.

Cons: Ali chipset - that would be a pro because they've been making USB to IDE bridge chipsets longer than most anyone. However, this particular chipset has no driver for Windows 7 and good luck trying to get it working for most flavors of linux.

Other Thoughts: It is stated toward the end of the product description that Windows support is 98/2000/XP. But long before the page says that, it says Windows and Mac. They should be specific that only decade old and older Windows operating systems are supported.

4 out of 5 eggscheap, easy setup

Pros: Easy to assemble, cheap, well made, fast transfer rates

Cons: Wish it came in colors.

Other Thoughts: Works well. Includes secondary USB cable for additional power, but not needed in most cases.

4 out of 5 eggstricky

Pros: tiny, original look.

Cons: tricky... see below.

Other Thoughts: wouldn't work at first. spent a whole 5 minutes and 2 pc's trying to figure it out. then i realized its ancient technology and not as user friendly as sata. you have to remove the jumper for slave/master select in order for it to work. after that it worked fine.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat product

Pros: Simple straight forward design and execution. Was able to put a 40 gig drive from an old shot compaq notebook in and had it up and running in 10 minutes including taking the drive out of the notebook.

Cons: As others have said the screws are very small and though I have the proper sized screwdrivers to keep from stripping the head, I did drop one and it took me a couple of minutes to find it back.

Other Thoughts: The front usb ports on my new phenom II/gigabyte system powered the drive fine with just the data cable but on my older Athlonx64/abit system I had to use both the data and power cables. Will try next on my Dell D610 notebook.

5 out of 5 eggsAWESOME ENCLOSURE!

Pros: It works perfectly! Allows for even the most heavy uses such as running programs from the hard drive and reformatting! A green LED tells you it's got power and a red LED tells you when it's accessing data. Will work without the separate USB power cable but it's included anyways to boost read/write speeds. YOU CAN'T BEAT THE PRICE!

Cons: It doesn't come with TWO enclosures!

Other Thoughts: I have been using this enclosure for years! 6 years to be exact. I got it for college. It's hooked up to my PC as I am writing this and still works as good as the day I got it. Also, it looks pretty. Most enclosures out there are ugly. Not this one!

1 out of 5 eggsNot impressed.

Pros: Well, it looks pretty good, it's aluminum, it's cheap, the little green light comes on

Cons: Mine doesn't work. I tried 3 different computers, both XP and Ubuntu, and I tried 2 different hard drives in it. XP detects but will not install it, even with the extra usb power cord plugged in. Ubuntu doesn't even recognize that it is present.

Other Thoughts: I'm sure I just got a defective unit and most wouldn't have these problems, but I won't be buying another of these.

5 out of 5 eggsNice compact enclosure

Pros: Small, lightweight enclosure
Separate USB power connection if needed
Does exactly what it is supposed to do
Durable
Great price
Flawless with Linux or lesser OS's

Cons: none for me

Other Thoughts: Ive had one of these for several years and it has been a solid performer as a portable data drive enclosure.
