3 out of 5 eggsdied

Pros: Correct size? Fairly quite

Cons: Died after 1.4 years always on, unfortunately that's not that great of a record. I still have 2U PSU's running since '08

Other Thoughts: For the price/lifetime defiantly not a good investment.

1 out of 5 eggsFailed!

Pros: Good when it worked.

Cons: Failed with only 500 hours of uptime!

Other Thoughts: I was using this as a router for about half a month before I moved. One day it would not power up, I thought it was the motherboard or the RAM. I finally got around to testing the system and it looks like the PSU went. And now that I'm out of warranty I'm stuck with a $120 brick. Terrible.

5 out of 5 eggssurprised

Pros: still running strong after a year. Have never had a problem with it.

Cons: n/a

Other Thoughts: I have been buying Athena for a while now. I completely forgot about this iStar. I was actually trying to figure out which Athena I put in a server.....(as we are upgrading again....and need some new machines) only to find out that the server which has given us the least problems.....is powered by a PSU I must have grabbed on a whim (or there was an availability problem). Either way, this PSU has been powered down a total of maybe 20 hrs since feb of 2011, and it doesn't seem to mind. At one point it was pushing 11TB of drives.

1 out of 5 eggsPSU Failure

Pros: Seemed to work well, until it stopped working well...

Cons: PSU failed after five months of service. May have claimed the life of an innocent SSD drive on the way. Last claim is yet to be confirmed...

2 out of 5 eggsFind Something Else

Pros: They are stable as a rock...until they die.

Cons: I've had 6 of these iStarUSA power supplies over the past 3 years, of which only 2 remain. They work great, then they die hard.

Other Thoughts: I started replacing them with ITX power supplies (which also fit it my 2U cases); they sad part is that they ITX supplies last longer.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Newegg Customer:

4 out of 5 eggssteady, quiet unit

Pros: Very quiet, stable power with good holdup times

Cons: Could use a 2nd fan to help move air

Other Thoughts: I have a few 3U systems on my home office network and need stable, quiet power supplies. I use the 500W unit to run a basic file server and just ordered another to run a a smaller VMware box. They are higher quality than they were a couple of years ago.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat PSU

Pros: Replaced a 'Power+cooling silencer' PSU....what ever it is...they just got bought out by OCZ....anyway, this PSU is less than half the volume of that one. It's pushing a tone of data without problems. All I really hear are the platters spinning, and the case fans a bit.

Cons: Only 1 thing, had ambient case temp up 7 degrees, put 60mm vantec temp controlled tf6025 fan on exhaust, and all is well....still half the dba. This is nice since this server is in the actual room I work in.

Other Thoughts: You've got to search screw jar for some long screws to mount fan, grill holes are perfect match, but you can't use the single side mounting screw for PSU. Honestly is it going anywhere missing the one screw?

5 out of 5 eggsExtremely Quiet!

Pros: I bought this PSU for a home router/firewall build and I was looking for a very quiet PSU that would get the job done.

Works perfectly, very quiet, very efficient! My box draws 80w with a single Xeon 1.6 gHz processor and 2 GB of RAM.

Cons: None!

Other Thoughts: Great PSU, if you are looking for a quiet 2U PSU you found it!

4 out of 5 eggsCables are different than pic

Pros: Works great

Cons: nothing so far

Other Thoughts: FYI the connectors arent whas in the pic, 4 of the molex connectors are switched to 4 sata power connectors, really sucks since my case is all hot swap bays and requires regular molex not sata power connectors. Wil have to change the connectors myself now. -1 egg for not updating the description and pics.

5 out of 5 eggsquiet!

Pros: it is indeed quiet. i've been on a quest to silence my dual quad core xeon servers and this was a major victory. only minutes after getting my test server up and running i pressed the power button to turn it on, only to discover it already was on. yes! cables are very long and plentiful, could be a con if your case is starved for space, but that worked just great for me.

Cons: mounds of cable.

Other Thoughts: it is smaller than the ps that i replaced, in a SuperMicro SC822I-300 case and will require some drilling to mount it securely.
