Every advancement in computer technology -- every new graphics card, sound card or CPU, means a greater need for power. The Apevia (Aspire) ATX-CW500WP4 500W Power Supply is high on efficiency and reliability, with a clean design that helps reduce power consumption, while solid construction ensures system stability. It has dual fans that provide quiet, powerful cooling, while industrial-grade protection circuitry protects against power and voltage surges.

A thermal fan speed controller adjusts fan speed while balancing cooling, power consumption, and noise emission. Independent voltage control loop and industrial grade components allow your fan to provide stable output and protection from power and voltage surges.

Two +12V rails (12V1, 12V2), will support most of your components under any load. It has one main connector (20 + 4 pin), one 12V (P4), two SATA, two Floppy, and six peripheral connectors. 3 out of 5 eggsPower Cable Burned

Pros: Quite Operation. Out of warranty when it died.

Cons: It worked for a year and half. However, all of sudden today I smelled something burning and after long inspection.

I found out that the PSU unit died and the power cable is melted inside where it plugs in on the back. I can't even remove the power cable from the unit. It's like superglued.

Also, my motherboard doesn't power anymore as well with another good power supply.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Reliable and Cheap

Pros: Got some of these over the past few years and this current one is just as good as others proper power output and solid unit not poor quality at all if your wanting a budgetr build then this is a good PSU to get but it is not a high end users unit then invest money in PSU since that the one item that can kill your mobo faster than anything else other than lightining strike.

Cons: it is for budget builds not high end but htat why so much less expensive

Other Thoughts: one of the units we have gooten has been in computer for at least past 5 years and have had no problems with it running 3HDD 2 DVD burners 5 case fans and low end video card

2 out of 5 eggsJust Plain Bad

Pros: It was cheap and it worked for a while- almost a year without problems. You usually can't ask for more than that...

Cons: After less than a year, the power supply simply failed. The warranty is pretty much a load of garbage and Apevia's customer service was plain horrible. For some reason, they refused to comply with the warranty period. I would not reccomend anybody yo purchase this power supply

Other Thoughts: I guess you get what you pay for. It's better to just spend your money on something more reliable.

Manufacturer Response:

As long as you are under our one-year warranty period, we would be willing to do an RMA on the bad unit. You can try contacting Apevia's customer service again at service@apevia.com or call at (909) 718-0789. We try to reply to all calls and e-mails as soon as we can.

1 out of 5 eggsSmoky death

Pros: It worked just fine up until a week ago

Cons: Last Sunday, my computer shut off randomly. Trying to turn it on wouldn't result in anything- there was some fizzling as well.

I submitted my computer for repairs and, according to the tech guys, the power supply fried and took my motherboard with it.

4 out of 5 eggsGood While It Lasted

Pros: Bought this power supply four years ago. It just now died. Would shut off anytime a load was put on it. Hey $40 for four years.

Cons: Started failing about six months ago. Would have to go through several cycle of switch / power up before it would work. Finally started shutting system down on it's own. Light weight compared to smaller wattage Antec that replaced it. It did finally fail.

5 out of 5 eggsExellent power supply

Pros: 500 watts, all the connectors I need, or anticipate needing, good connector length, reliable

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: I've purchased four of these over the past four years. All have performed without problem.

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible

Pros: Worked fine until I tried to do some gaming.

Cons: Worked for about month or so.

One day I was playing a game and my computer switches off. At first I thought maybe my CPU was overheating, but I restart my computer and a warning message comes up about an automatic shut down because of an unstable power supply.

I open my case and take it out, and notice there's a strong burning plastic smell coming from it. The supply was properly ventilated and I don't even require a full 500 watts to power my set up. So I wasn't even pushing it's capacity and it failed on me.

Needless to say I don't plan on returning it for a new one, I'll just bite the bullet and pay for a quality power supply. Hopefully no permanent damage was done to the rest of my hardware.

1 out of 5 eggsDO NOT PURCHASE

Pros: It was cheap.

Cons: Dies as soon as you try to use it. Got it in. Installed into my PC. Booted it up. Within minutes I smelled something getting hot and then my PC shut off. Smoke was pouring from the PSU. Hooked the old PSU up and PC was working fine. Seems at least the thing didn't damage my board or anything else. I have done these things many times before so yes it was installed correctly. The unit just sucks.

Other Thoughts: Thought I would save myself some money seeing as how all I needed was 500w. Suppose I have learned my lesson. Will be taking my refund and getting a higher wattage than I need but from a more reliable brand.
