An important tip from one of our users: don't just check total power output, find out what you need in the way of current on each power rail. If you need 20 A on your +12V rails and the supply only has 15A, it doesn't matter how many watts the supply puts out: don't buy it. Make certain that you have ENOUGH rails, too: sometimes, you need more than just two +12V rails for your setup.

Replacing an existing power supply is easier: just get a replacement that meets or exceeds the specifications of the old one. (You can usually find those printed on the side of the supply.)

That said, here's a power supply that is compatible with most ATX format motherboards, puts out 680 watts of power (see specifications for exact distribution). Could this be your next power supply?

4 out of 5 eggsI almost wish it didn't have the lights.

Pros: It does the job adequately. I have a 125W processor and a massive graphics card which requires two 6-pin power cables. No complaints at all about its performance.

Cons: The color LEDs are a pain in the rear-end. I went with red LEDs for my case and bought this because I thought it would be adequate (it is) and there aren't many power supplies with red LEDs. When you turn off the PC, the power supply forgets which color you chose and defaults to blue. If you're using blue LEDs, good for you. If I want to get red LEDs I have to get up, reach behind the case and push a button several times.

I know, this is a stupid, first-world problem. You should buy the power supply because it works well and it powers my energy hungry system. Just don't buy it for the red or green LEDs, because it's a pain to change the color everytime you turn it on.

Other Thoughts: An unexpected Pro: Since I have red LEDs and the power supply can do green, I'm thinking that'll be fun a Christmas.

5 out of 5 eggsLook and work Great!

Pros: I have bought about 6 of these now? All are working great and its awesome that they have so many hookups. It is about twice as many that a normal PSU has.

Cons: The lights do not stay the same when the computer gets powered down.

3 out of 5 eggsIt's alright

Pros: It does what it's advertised to do. The see-through casing and the three different light settings are really nice and look good in my case. Comes with a lot of molex connectors. The adjustable fan speed is also really nice.

Cons: A little to be desired as far as the build quality goes, during installation the screws would barely fit and were really hard to tighten all the way, one screw even broke off before I could tighten it completely. The 8 pin motherboard power cord is very short and has to go over my motherboard instead of being able to go behind it, which just looks bad. With all the molex connectors it would be really nice to have at least a semi-modular design because all of the extra cords don't really look good. One thing about the lights is that when you turn on your pc it will default to blue, this can be kind of annoying if you always want the red or green.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat PSU

Pros: Great price, fan speeds, LEDS turn on/off, soild

Cons: LED switch picks a random color or off.

Other Thoughts: This thing has been great to me from the time I opened the box. the fan speeds have a nice range that keep the PSU very cool. I use this for a gaming rig and have even had a few power hits yet this thing keeps ticking. Great buy, solid PSU

5 out of 5 eggs7 years strong

Pros: Comes at a good price, the multi-color LEDs are a nice fit for many cases. Cables are tough and pretty easy to organize given that it's not modular.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I've had this exact model of power supply for over 7 years now and used it in 3 different builds. It works just as well now as it did when I bought it. I'm only now retiring it because I need a high wattage PSU.

4 out of 5 eggsdefault color

Pros: This is a good p/s overall. Price.

Cons: None really but see other thoughts.

Other Thoughts: The power cables seem short although it could be the connector placement of the MOBO. It would be nice if the main power cable to the MOBO were longer because if a large video card is installed it really does hamper cable management.

4 out of 5 eggsLasted 8 years

Pros: Lasted 8 years.
Love the LEDs, and options to switch them.
Looks great.

Cons: N/A

Other Thoughts: I couldn't *really* call this a con, but after 8 years, whenever I attempt to play a newer game (like Diablo III or State of Decay), my computer simply shuts off. I'm not sure it was ever designed with today's graphics cards in mind, but again, it *did* last 8 years, so I can't complain too much! :)

5 out of 5 eggsVery Cool

Pros: This is a very Pretty PSU. It has everything I needed to run 5 HD's and 2 1gb Video Cards. The 12 volt has 24 amp, which my case recommended. When I priced other PSU's that met my requirements, they were all way higher priced. This one was on sale for 59 and worth every penny of it.

Cons: So many connections! - not a con, just hard to managed 6 different strands. But the plus side is - no matter what - you have plenty of connectors to run all equipment.

This PSU is not for small cases. if your case is only 2 bays big - buy a new case! - This PSU is worth it!

Other Thoughts: This is a highly recommended PSU
