1 out of 5 eggsEither a bad batch of products or simply a truly bad product.

Pros: The power supply is small, as an ITX power supply should be. It is quiet, as an ITX power supply should be. It has short cables and only the number of cables I needed for a VERY small HTPC build in a case that is barely any larger than the Mini-ITX motherboard and power supply sandwiched right next to each other so airflow needs to not be hindered by excessive cables that have to be stuffed near or even on top of heat generating components.

Cons: While I have a few nice to say about the power supply, I have one critical flaw about the power supply itself. IT DOESNT WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought FOUR (4) of these power supplies. Four! 1 of them powered the HTPC on for one instance, long enough to get the OS installed (installed from a PXE Server on a Gigabit swtich to an SSD in the HTPC, took about 3 minutes), and then when I shut the PC down for its first reboot, that was IT. Never powered on again. I had to build 2 of these HTPCs at the same time so it made sense to have the exact same hardware in each one (right??) so I had ordered 2 of these power supplies. The 2nd one never powered on at all. So ... I bought 2 more. Because I like Apevia products, I still have one of their very first SLI power supplies they produced from almost 12 years ago and it STILL works. I waited for their Warlock 900W power supply to come back in stock, and paid more for it than a Cooler Master or EVGA power supply at the time because I had such a great experience with the first power supply I bought of theirs. But the 2nd round of power supplies ... BOTH were DOA. I checked all the power supplies with a PSU tester (also an Apevia product) and it confirmed the drive was dead. I made sure that the HTPC(s) would power on with a different power supply and that the test was in fact functioning "correctly" by stating the power supply was faulty. I cannot stress how much I would not buy this power supply unless you are just asking for a headache. The only reason this was given 1 egg was because you cannot submit a review unless you choose an egg, I would give it zero if possible.

Other Thoughts: This power supply has potential, but potential of a product means nothing if it doesnt work. And since this is a power supply and has only ONE function, well ...........

Manufacturer Response:

You can do an RMA through us for the power supply to get an exchange on the PSU if you are still under our warranty period. You can contact Apevia's customer service at or call at (909) 718-0789. We try to reply to all calls and e-mails as soon as we can.

3 out of 5 eggsGet what you pay for

Pros: Cheap ITX power supply.

Cons: Original cooling fan died quickly, supply died completely after 2 years (after replacing cooling fan).

Other Thoughts: Won't handle a high-power rig, and isn't the most reliable supply ever. Not bad for the cost, though.

5 out of 5 eggsNice power for the price

Pros: 20/24 pin connector
Additional 4 pin connector
2 Molex power
2 Sata power
Fan is quiet for the size
Runs at reasonable temps

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Built into a customized mini ITX build; I'm utilizing at most 70-80w under full load so the 250w is really overkill. The case is easy to dismantle if you're looking to reclaim a little headroom inside you build and you know what you're doing.

1 out of 5 eggsLasted only 9 months, BAD customer service

Pros: It was quiet for an ITX power supply. It stayed cool. The black surface looked cool.

Cons: It only lasted 9 months. Sometimes I would get the fans to come on, but the computer would not post. Other times the computer would not turn on at all. I tried known working power supplies and did not experience these issues.

When I contacted customer service, they told me to stick a paperclip between pins 16 and 17. If the power supply turned on, than it was good. Sure enough it did. So Apevia thought the power supply was good, and they would not help me. So I was stuck with a bad power supply. So much for a one year warranty.

Other Thoughts: The power supply gets one egg because of the dismal customer service. Apevia blew it here.

2 out of 5 eggsBad fans

Pros: It's the correct size.

Cons: After selling 3 of these, in all 3 the fans died in a year, which causes massive overheating and then shutdown. To their credit none of them burned up. THe fan is a really wierd size and in the end, its alot of money for a cheaply made 250w psu.

1 out of 5 eggsDead after 24 hours

Pros: Size

Never had to RMA a product with Newegg before. So far their service has been exceptional.

Cons: Smelled hot as soon as I plugged it in. Disconnected it when not in use for the first 24 hours. I added a fan near it to help cool it when on. Used it for a few hours for an XBMC build. After 24 hours of not using the power supply it stopped making the smell, but now it will not work. Plugged another power supply in and it works.

Other Thoughts: I would not get this power supply even if it was $5. Not worth the hassle. Get something else. Never had a power supply die that quickly. Says something to me about quality of components.

1 out of 5 eggsThe magic smoke escaped

Pros: Inexpensive
Fits Shuttle case

Cons: Loud fan
Failed completely after just over a year of use

Other Thoughts: This was being used to power an atom based server - very little demand on the PSU. After little more than a year of use, the fan quit, causing the coil located near the rear of the unit to burn off its insulation and begin to arc. I won't be purchasing the same model to replace it.
