quiet gem
- Pros: Beautifully made, quiet, great cabling and connectors. Will buy more when on sale again.
- Cons: Seems a bit pricey at $67.
Well Made, Efficient, Quiet Power Supply
- Pros: I goofed the earlier 6/10/2009 review and I invite Newegg to delete it. This is what I really wanted to say about this excellent power supply …
This 330W power supply is well made, very efficient and very quiet. This power supply has excellent build quality. This power supply has a 120mm fan which is well balanced for acoustics and thermal control. I cannot hear the fan while the power supply is operating. This power supply has connectors adequate to support a mainstream PC build. A separate adapter is provided to support up to two Floppy drives.
This power supply offers good quality and value for the price. I feel I got my moneys worth.
- Cons: Cables are sized for an ATX mid-tower case and are rather long for a micro-ATX case. I had some difficulty stashing the unused cables in my micro-ATX mid-tower case. If you are building a home theater system with tighter confines, this power supply may not be for you.
A 6-pin PCI-E connector is provided which is seems incredible for a power supply of 330W rating. I do not think this power supply provides adequate current for a system using a mid-range graphics card that requires a 6-pin PCI-E connector. I would suggest the Seasonic SII or MII 430W or 500W power supplies for such a system.
Minor cons I can think of are: lack of modular cables and lack of delayed fan shutoff function – where the fan remains on for 2 minutes after the PC is shutdown to remove heat from the supply case
- Other Thoughts: I am well satisfied with this power supply. I use this power supply in a micro-ATX PC that I keep off line for private correspondence, finances and journal.
I have been using this power supply since January 2009 without incident. In my opinion this power supply is reliable.
The Seasonic S12II 330W is well rated in the Anandtech 12/2008 power supply roundup with regard to efficiency, DC voltage regulation and acoustic performance. This power supply contains quality electrolytic capacitors rated for 105C and a solid capacitor in one demanding location. Voltage variation on 12V, 3.3V and 5V rails with changing load is excellent. Efficiency exceeds 85% at 50% load. This is a quality power supply that I am confident will give me years of service.
Seasonic has released a Bronze Certified 330W Seasonic S12II. Specifications between this and the bronze certified power supply are identical; I strongly suspect both are the same unit.
