The very first full modular multi-output ATX, high-wattage power supply that has ever obtained the 80PLUS Gold certification is introduced by Sea Sonic. This coveted power supply is named “X” and is offered in 650 watt version to fulfill computer enthusiasts’ need for the ultimate power source.

Featuring a design of “DC Connector Module with Integrated VRM”, the X Series is set to achieve both near-perfect DC to DC conversion and fully modularized design without compromising efficiency. After a long wait, finally there is a product that delivers the complete package, ultra-high efficiency, greatly improved dynamic response, and customizable cable arrangement that is tailored to meet any individual’s needs.

As a leading provider of silent power supplies, Sea Sonic delivers a true breakthrough solution for thermal and noise management. The X Series adopts a clever “Hybrid Silent Fan Control” design, which offers three distinct operation modes, fanless mode, silent mode, and cooling mode. The X automatically adjusts fan mode and speed according to the ambient temperature level. This brand new design not only optimizes heat dissipation, but also prolongs the lifespan of the system by reducing unnecessary fan rotation. To make the X Series even more robust and exciting, Sea Sonic offers a Sanyo Denki San Ace PWM Silent Fan, the best fan there is in the industry, to take advantage of the PWM feature.

5 out of 5 eggsHaswell Compatibility

Pros: I purchased this power supply back in 2010, and have had no issues with it.

I was worried that I might have to purchase a new PSU for future Haswell upgrades, but Seasonic has recently announced that it has done rigorous testing to ensure that this power supply is compatible with Haswell's extremely low-power C6/C7 sleep states (which is reportedly causing issues with many cheaper psu's).

Cons: absolutely none I can think of

Other Thoughts: I bought this PSU 3 years ago, and was pleasantly surprised when I realized I had 4 more years of warranty on this thing!
Hopefully, I won't need to use it, but that's pretty incredible.

5 out of 5 eggsNew black flat ribbon cables

Pros: – It's Seasonic, the best of the best
– It's silent because most of the time the fan doesn't even need to spin up unless it detects <20% load and it uses a Sanyo Denki San Ace PWM fan, you wouldn't know if it spun up anyway
– Noticed Seasonic switched to black flat ribbon style cables, purchased a few X750 and X650 from over a year ago and it uses sleeved round cables.

Cons: None, it's Seasonic you expect the best

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing power supply

Pros: Very quiet. So quiet you can't hear it under ordinary circumstances. Not only that, but it had the side benefit of making the rest of my system quieter. I don't know whether that was because my old power supply's fans would ramp up during heavy gameplay, or if the fan in the Seasonic is now increasing airflow across the CPU and GPU. Or both. Either way, it made my system much quieter overall and I now have an efficient, high-powered PSU for years to come.

Cons: The plugs in the cable that went into my hard drives was upside-down. Essentially, I either had to do some cable gymnastics to get it to fit, or flip my hard drives upside-down. I ended up doing the latter. Not a huge deal.

Other Thoughts: The packaging was pretty extravagant. Unnecessary, but it's nice that they went the extra mile.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome PSU

Pros: I have had this power supply for almost a year now and I love it. Like several other reviews said: "Super quiet", Works very efficiently", "has nice packaging and is fully modular" and I completely support these claims.

Before my current PSU I had a Thermal take 620 watt, but unfortunately it died after about 2 months of usage.

For my next Pc build I will definitely be upgrading to one of SeaSonic's 850 model's for sure.

Cons: a little pricy if you pay in full .

5 out of 5 eggsGreat!

Pros: Works great, came with all the necessary cables, and a shiny satin bag to boot! Quick installation (4 screws provided) and the full modular design helped save me space in my already cramped case.

Cons: None!

Other Thoughts: Couldn't ask for a better one for the price.

5 out of 5 eggsVersion Mod

Pros: This thing is SILENT, even with fan spinning. Nice all modular design.

Put in a full size case HTPC. Certainly overkill, but who cares? PSU is silent.

Comes with a nice 2 pocket cable pouch to store unused cables.

Cons: Came with flat "ribbon" cables rather than sleeved round ones. I'm sure both conduct electricity fine; sleeved round ones just more esthetically pleasing. On the other hand, case has no windows and don't plan on opening it up much.

Other Thoughts: I bought my first one in October 2012. Like it so much, bought another May 2013. SAME model number, several variations between the two:

1. Oct 2012's has round, sleeved cables. May 2013's has flat ribbon cables.

2. Oct 2012's does not have a fan selector switch. May 2013's has a fan selector switch above the modular connector ports to select "hybrid" (fan off until needed) or "normal" (fan always on). See Page 6, Para. 4 of owner's manual (partial quote below).

Guess the "normal" position is for those who don't trust the hybrid fan logic or who panic when the PSU is on but the fan is not spinning. Perhaps Seasonic got tired of having perfectly good PSU's RMA'd because the fan "didn't work". Now, I'm sure customer service will suggest switching to "normal" as a check before requesting RMA.)

Note that the switch will be INSIDE the computer case when PSU is mounted, so it's "choose wisely" ...

I hear no coil whine, but then, past a certain age, eyes and ears start to fail...

From manual:
[i]
a. The Normal Fan Control setting enables the fan to rotate continuously in Silent and Cooling modes, depending on the system load.
b. The Hybrid Fan Control setting enables the power supply to run in Fanless Mode up to 20% (+-5%) of the maximum rated load. When the load further increases, the Silent Fan Control will keep regulating perfect cooling through the Silent or Cooling Modes.

With the acoustic damping of the Fractal Design R3 (all removable panels in place), the only way I know it's on is by the blue power button in front.

5 out of 5 eggsNear-perfect power supply.

Pros: Just about the best power supply you can find. If you google the phrase, "seasonic x650 review," the first two hits are Hardware Secrets and Jonny Guru. Both of these reviewers are very hard to impress, and both pretty much had their socks knocked off by the quality of this unit.

It provides INSANE efficiency, even under extreme stress at 50c+ ambient temperatures, outputs extremely clean voltage, and can easily provide 750-800w without even blinking.

It's got all the connectors you could possibly need, is very well built, and like other reviewers have mentioned, is about as small as a power supply of this quality has ever been.

It's also extremely quiet - the fan twitches on startup to let you know it's working, and then stays completely off until temperatures rise past a certain point... and since every part in this power supply is rated to still function at 105c, it can be absolutely silent even under gaming load.

Cons: It can have a tiny bit of coil whine. However, it's only noticeable for me because 1) I have a watercooled computer which is almost entirely silent, and 2) I have the back facing me for ease of connections, which means there's not a computer between me and the grill for the PSU.

Other Thoughts: I'm going to address some of the people who gave it a bad review:

1) To the guy who had it explode. Yes, it was bad that happened, but it might not have been the power supplies fault; you said it took out your surge protector. The power supply wouldn't have done that; more than likely, there was a very large surge in the line, and this power supply saved your computer from becoming a large piece of electronic toast.

2) To the guy whose returning it in favor of a Corsair unit: You do know that a lot of Corsair units are made by seasonic, right? Corsair doesn't make their own power supplies.

3) To those who got DoA units and gave it no eggs because of that: Come on, guys. This is what I don't like about newegg. DOA parts HAPPEN. It's something you should expect; and it's most certainly not the manufacturer's fault - think about the complexity of electronics, and how easy they are to break. Just because one part happened to be DOA and another brand didn't... that means absolutely nothing.
