3 out of 5 eggsGood until it died

This review is from: SeaSonic X Series X650 Gold ((SS-650KM Active PFC F3)) 650W ATX12V V2.3/EPS 12V V2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Did what it was supposed to do plain and simple. Love the modular design.

Cons: After approximately 8 months, I started getting random shut downs, nothing to explain it. Went through the normal troubleshooting efforts, disconnected all devices and external drives, upgraded to windows 10 thinking it was something with windows 8.1

Eventually did a clean install, nothing helped.

Ripped apart my old computer and used my old Corsair PS, and as I type this no issues so far...so it looks like I am off for an RMA of this power supply. Kind of disappointed since I researched and spent the extra money on this one only to have it eventually cost me in the end.

Based on the reviews I am seeing, I am not excited about what lays ahead :(

2 out of 5 eggsShame on Seasonic

This review is from: SeaSonic X Series X650 Gold ((SS-650KM Active PFC F3)) 650W ATX12V V2.3/EPS 12V V2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Seasonic, what can you say.... when it works, it's nice. Looks well built, nice assortment of modular cables, nice packaging, nice box. All the things that are purposed to "sell" are heavily invested in. Anything else.... well, judge for yourself.

Cons: Over the last year, this unit shut down without warning at least a dozen times. Sometimes I would simply pull the plug on the PSU and it would restart, other times it would take overnight, one time a week. Finally I prepared for a hot-swap test with a working PSU, and I was able to prove that it was a faulty PSU by connecting the standby PSU, starting the system, reconnecting the Seasonic PSU and it failed. Today I received a replacement PSU, no paperwork, no place online to check for status. In other words, the big bird of customer service.

Other Thoughts: This is the text of the email I just send Seasonic Customer service:

To Whom It May Concern:

On July 31st of this year I completed an RMA for my PSU and shipped the unit back to you. Today I received a PSU via Fedex Ground without any paperwork what-so-ever. Certainly when you REQUIRE that I include paperwork, you can do me the courtesy of some paperwork indicating what if any trouble was found and if the unit received was a replacement or not. You can do better, and since I'm the customer, (and a repeat customer), which means I PAID the money, I rather insist you do so. This is the United States of America, and in this country we expect a document of record when an item is replaced under warranty. We have the right to have documentation of that replacement for our records. Perhaps there was a place online that I could check on the status of my RMA, if there was, I didn't find it. So now I'm forced to dig out the original retail box (which I'm experienced enough to keep) and verify the serial numbers (which oddly enough do NOT print on the Seasonic Online RMA form. One might think that Seasonic management either doesn't care or is simply inept. I wonder which it is.

This email is a demand for a receipt showing that that unit I was given was a replacement under warranty and a statement of policy from Seasonic indicating what rights I have going forward for warranty service on this unit.

Shame on you Seasonic, is greed all that drives you ? Now I will have to consider other manufacturers when I purchase additional PSUs.

Disappointed

1 out of 5 eggsSeasonic RMA

This review is from: SeaSonic X Series X650 Gold ((SS-650KM Active PFC F3)) 650W ATX12V V2.3/EPS 12V V2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Great quiet PSU that fan only kicks in when reaches certain load.

Cons: Great PSU until the fan gives up and the PSU shuts down your system. Next the RMA process.

Seasonic RMA is terrible. Fedex lost my initial RMA. Seasonic made me wait a bit too long to get a reply from them about this matter as they are the ones who could file the claim and contact Fedex about the matter.

Seasonic will not repair your unit, so if you take pride in your builds aesthetically for an appealing look, you might end up w/ a replacement that has scuff marks which is only a poor looking refurbished unit. I ended up w/ this.

Again my initial PSU for RMA was in top notch shape, not a scratch. Seasonic isn't going to return your initial unit. You will get whatever they feel passes their b-grade quality control.

I've owned Seasonic PSUs for the longest and its the only brand I use. The RMA process has me looking elsewhere.

My PSU was immaculate and I shouldn't have to put a PSU which was RMA'd that has scuffs. This is a b-grade trade and not a repair of your PSU process. To make matters worse the unit i sent in was a 2012 model and the unit replaced is a 2010. It is a shame.

5 out of 5 eggsPrimo Unit

This review is from: SeaSonic X Series X650 Gold ((SS-650KM Active PFC F3)) 650W ATX12V V2.3/EPS 12V V2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: -Includes handsome velvet pouch, case sticker and velcro Seasonic cable ties.
-Heavy, solid construction
-Good reviews on internet, quality components, good soldering, clean, stable power.
-Gold certified

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I generally use Corsair PSUs but realize many of them are made by Seasonic. Wanted to try my luck with one of their own branded units. Seems great so far, but only time will tell. The only other higher end unit I've owned was a PC Power and Cooling model and it only lasted a few years.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect

This review is from: SeaSonic X Series X650 Gold ((SS-650KM Active PFC F3)) 650W ATX12V V2.3/EPS 12V V2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Build Quality
Brand
Silence

Cons: Power connectors are a bit confusing at first.

Other Thoughts: The power connectors are a bit confusing to get used to due to how they separated them and labeled them on the unit itself (Motherboard / Motherboard 4/8pin). Consulting the manual for the first install will fix this problem and it will probably never be an issue after that but this is the only problem with the unit thus far.

I purchased this to replace the Corsair HX650 which I had already returned to Corsair due to an issue with it's fan controller, the replacement that they sent me squealed terribly so I ended up buying the X-650 which if I had to guess is the model the HX650 is based on considering the OEM provider for it is SeaSonic.

The X-650 has worked flawlessly thus far with my GTX 760 and now R9 390X with an overclocked 4690K. While monitoring my power draw I'm never over 440w for the whole PC even under benchmark / stress test loads and this power supply has remained silent for all of it.

1 out of 5 eggsNice packaging, poor product

This review is from: SeaSonic X Series X650 Gold ((SS-650KM Active PFC F3)) 650W ATX12V V2.3/EPS 12V V2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Nice packaging (now I know why it was expensive), and good amount of cables.

Cons: High pitch noise on day 1 in a new build. I thought it was not that annoying at this time.
After almost 2 months, IT IS annoying.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Julien, please note the noise can be an issue of MB / PSU compatibiity. Please enable all Energy Saving modes in the BIOS. If this does not resolve your issue, please visit www.seasonicusa.com and start a RMA procedure and we will have the unit tested for you. As well, if the PSU makes the noise during heavy VGA usage, this be attributed to the VGA's dynamic load profile not matching to Intel standards. If you have any issues, please contact us at: newegg@seasonicus.com Thank You.

5 out of 5 eggslasted 3 years so far, still alive and kicking

This review is from: SeaSonic X Series X650 Gold ((SS-650KM Active PFC F3)) 650W ATX12V V2.3/EPS 12V V2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: bought it in October 2011, still works just fine. keeps quiet and cool, amazing packaging

Cons: only con might really just be me being an idiot somehow, I recently moved my entire build into a new case, whenever I plugged the hdd in my pc wouldn't turn on at all. luckily the power supply comes with some extra cables so I switched them out and everything works fine
