4 out of 5 eggsRecommended to most

This review is from: SeaSonic X Series X650 Gold ((SS-650KM Active PFC F3)) 650W ATX12V V2.3/EPS 12V V2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: It's a SeaSonic! Finally had to replace an 8 year old SeaSonic made (Corsair) PSU; was getting a little long in the tooth. When something works don't mess with it.

Cons: Cabling a little frustrating, peripheral/SATA power connectors are keyed to daisy chain up. If the PSU is mounted in the bottom of the case with fan up the connectors are keyed to move up the chain. If the PSU is mounted top of the case fan down the power connectors are keyed such that you have to start at the end of the cable, chain down then loop at the bottom back up to the PSU to connect. Fortunately the peripheral/SATA cables are long enough to do so as long as you don't have too many devices (had to move my HDD up one slot), things do get a bit crowded after all devices are connected with several cable looped back to the PSU. SeaSonic could correct this by making the peripheral/SATA cables two part with a connecter at each end of the device daisy. The extension cable to the PSU could be shortened allowing you to connect to the device daisy cable at the bottom or the top.

One more gripe; center the connector sockets on the PSU panel. The PSU receiver on my case is angle framed. When the PSU is installed the row closest to the PSU edge is parallel to the frame angle covering the connector row. Fortunately there is a .5" standoff from the front of the PSU to the angle frame. I had to aggressively bend the cable wires at the plug to prevent the wires chaffing on the angle. If I did not have the .5" standoff I would not be able to have installed this PSU. By centering the connectors on the PSU the fan switch would have to be moved; it should be on the front panel with the power switch anyway.

I wanted to take 1.5 eggs away, don't have that option. The above was not worth 2 eggs.

Other Thoughts: Not sure I get the satin travel bag for the PSU and the velcro pouch for the unused cables. I've tried to think of any instance where I might travel with my PSU; none come to mind. Save us some money SeaSonic. Put the cables in a ziplock bag and keep the satin bag. If I need a bag I have a drawer full of Crown Royal bags.

Pros: Took 3 tries to get it in a bitfenix prodigy, but it fits. Came packages very nicely.

Cons: -

Other Thoughts: The main reason I got this PSU is that it was on tier 1 on the eggxpert list.

Other Thoughts: Highly recommend this power supply.

3 out of 5 eggsBlack & White

This review is from: SeaSonic X Series X650 Gold ((SS-650KM Active PFC F3)) 650W ATX12V V2.3/EPS 12V V2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: A Great Power supply - just what you should expect from SeaSonic. Beatiful packaging - it makes you feel like you are dealing with royalty.

Cons: When did SeaSonic stop enableing their PSU to be mountimg on either side of the chassis?! I tryed to mount this PSU in my SilverStone LC20 on the left side of the chassis. To mount it so the screw holes aligned up it had to be mounted upside down. NOT GOOD! The fan was facing out. To mount this PSU correctly, so the fan faced inside the chassis, I had to drill and file new holes in the chassis to get the four screws to mount the PSU.

Other Thoughts: This problem is a new thing with SeaSonic. I had the same problem with a SeaSonic 520W Platinum. This time I had a good excuse to upgrade the PSU in my desktop. I have built many PCs using only SeaSonic power supplies and this is a problem I have only recently ran into.
SeaSonic - FIX the problem!

Manufacturer Response:

William, thank you for your support of Seasonic and I am sorry to read of your issue with the PSU mounting screw hole positions. We are not able to provide reversible mounting screw holes due to legal reasons. Normally speaking most cases currently provide mounting screw holes to allow for different mounting directions. Sorry for the inconvenience.

1 out of 5 eggsFlaky Customer Service

This review is from: SeaSonic X Series X650 Gold ((SS-650KM Active PFC F3)) 650W ATX12V V2.3/EPS 12V V2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: It powers my computer.

Cons: First PSU failed a little after a year. It just went "poof" one day. Filed an RMA and received a replacement in less than one week. Wow. It really shot up Seasonic's reputation quite high in my book. It's a shame the replacement was a refurbished dud, and that I haven't been able to contact support for over two weeks (emails through the website and through regular email are currently being rejected). Another wow. You would think that they actually listen to the problems customers describe about the PSU before they slap an "OK" sticker on it and ship it out to someone who was already let down from the first dud. Worst part of it all is that, I think it killed the audio on my motherboard; but aside from the ticking noise the PSU is generating, I have no way of proving it. Now I also have to RMA my motherboard. Would they cover it should it kill my next motherboard? Probably not.

Other Thoughts: This PSU has been fairly good to me, aside from the coil whine I dealt with from my original PSU. The replacement doesn't suffer from coil whine, but it does seem to be suffering from internal electrical discharging.

I'll leave another review if and when Seasonic makes up for it. Each RMA cost over $10, on top off a week of downtime (minimum) -- not to mention the hassle it is to rewire everything inside a case. It's not like people love RMAing stuff -- just send one that works.
