1 out of 5 eggswas good until it died after 2 years

This review is from: SeaSonic S12II 620 Bronze 620W ATX12V V2.3 / EPS 12V V2.91 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: -worked well for 2 years

Cons: -died after 2 years
-sent in under warranty, new one died within a few hours of use

Other Thoughts: This unit worked perfectly for almost exactly 2 years, then one day it would not display graphics on the monitor and the computer would not respond. I tore down the computer and discovered by process of elimination that the power supply was at fault. It was no longer supplying sufficient power to the motherboard or CPU. I sent it in under warranty (paid $12 to ship it) and in a few weeks I got back another PSU in the mail from the company. I installed the new unit into my computer which was functioning perfectly on an older PSU I had swapped in from a different computer. My computer booted but ran slowly and had some graphical glitches, after about an hour it blue screened. I made sure everything was connected properly and tried it again, same thing. Swapped in the old PSU from the other computer and once again it worked perfectly. Have been trying to contact the manufacturer but have not received a response. I will never buy another Seasonic PSU.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Ari,
Sorry to read of your experience. Normally speaking, blue screen is more related to the MB & VGA than the PSU. Can you please send an e-mail to me at newegg@seasonicus.com with your RMA number and we will trace and see what has happened. The replacement units are all tested for compliance and performance before shipping. As well, please let me know how you have contacted our USA office and I will do a trace on that as well. Thank you.

5 out of 5 eggsS12II 620 Works with APC Back-Ups

This review is from: SeaSonic S12II 620 Bronze 620W ATX12V V2.3 / EPS 12V V2.91 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Had it over 6 months, been working as it should.
Its quiet, i5 4670k and GTX 770 at full load with no problems.

The reason for the review is that I bought my first UPS, its an APC Back-Ups NS 1080VA. It is not a pure sinewave UPS, but a simulated one.

I read that Active PFC power supplies are hit and miss on whether they will work with stepped sinewave UPS battery backups.
Just confirming that my Seasonic S12II 620w does in fact work perfectly with my APC Back-Ups NS 1080VA.
Three power outages already and the UPS has clicked over with no power loss.

Cons: None, you get whats advertised.

1 out of 5 eggsdead after testing

This review is from: SeaSonic S12II 620 Bronze 620W ATX12V V2.3 / EPS 12V V2.91 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: brand new

Cons: Was testing it with a power supply tester, after preparing to test a different set of cords it wouldn't turn on at all. No smoke but definitely should've failed quality control

Other Thoughts: definitely worth having a power supply tester, I recommend the thermaltake doctor power 2.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Derek,
We are sorry for your experience with our prodcut but I hope the RMA process has been satisfactory. Thank you.

2 out of 5 eggsDamaged Model

This review is from: SeaSonic S12II 620 Bronze 620W ATX12V V2.3 / EPS 12V V2.91 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Relatively cheap, and perfectly sized for the case.

Cons: Outside of the few pros, this PSU has been nothing but issues thus far. While I'm hardly the most technologically experienced, this is the fourth computer rig I've built from scratch. Thus far, the issues have been all over the place upon arrival. Cabling had frayed around the motherboard's PSU plug, a small ticket that voided the warranty had already been partially peeled, and it relatively worked. As I've mentioned, this is the fourth rig I've built and this one was designed for a good friend of mine. Upon arrival, I quickly assembled the PC and got it in working order. Started up the computer and installed a fresh OS upon his HDD, only for the issues to start here. Despite being in the proper wattage range, the GPU was improperly powered. It would come on and off at relatively random times. Of course, I imagined it was the GPU damaged on arrival and initially notched it up to that. However, after installing the GPU into not only my rig but also my roommate's computer, it worked without a hitch even when playing video games. Now curious, I remounted the GPU into my friend's motherboard and completely rewired the PSU just in case I had messed something up.

Initially powered on and started boot up, but once again the GPU began to randomly turn off. After awhile, I noticed a few of the additional accessories such as keyboard and headset would die on occasion as power seemingly failed.

So far?

I plan on returning this PSU and getting it replaced with a new one. I hope the new one will perform better and I'll be able to post a better review soon.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Cameron, Normally speaking, if the PSU fails, then it will fail completley and not in a random way. As well, if the keyboard and headset would turn off as you have mentioned, then this might most likely be a MB issue because the keyboard and headset is connected to and powered by the MB and not directly by the PSU. If you have any issues, please contact newegg@seasonicus.com. Thank you.

5 out of 5 eggs2nd time lucky

This review is from: SeaSonic S12II 620 Bronze 620W ATX12V V2.3 / EPS 12V V2.91 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Stable voltages
Sturdy construction
Japanese capacitors
Good cable lengths
Perfect size for most systems with a single GPU
48 Amps on the 12V rail
Quiet, with a ball bearing fan - should last a while
5 year warranty

Cons: First one was badly damaged

Other Thoughts: I've only had mine two months but I love this PSU! It is solidly constructed and just has the weight of a quality build. I chose the non-modular one to save a few bucks and have no regrets. If you want modular, spend more and buy modular. Yes there are a LOT of cables to deal with especially if you are only running a single GPU. However if you have a case with good cable management options then you just need to be creative. After all, once you install it, how often will you need to access all the cables? Even with upgrades it's not often enough that it's a hassle.

I don't deduct eggs for what is probably a packaging problem or shipping damage on the first one. Note to Neweg though: you absolutely have to look at how you package these for shipping. Both arrived in a shipping box not much bigger than the actual PSU with only two sets of those plastic air pillows that Newegg uses - completely deflated!! The first PSU was actually dented at the back with the top pushed up. To actually incur that kind of damage on such a solid PSU speaks to how poorly it was packaged for shipping - no reflection at all on a quality product from Seasonic. And to others, please don't let your ratings reflect these kinds of issues. This is an issue with Newegg. Newegg did replace promptly though, so it was more an issue of inconvenience for me.
