5 out of 5 eggsSolid PSU, Obviously Silent

This review is from: SeaSonic Platinum Series SS-400FL2 Active PFC F3 400W ATX12V Fanless 80 PLUS Platinum Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: *Silent
*Solid
*Plenty of length on Modular cables

Just picked up my second SeaSonic Fanless. First one is in a gaming rig, the second is now in a file server. Working great.

Cons: No Negatives, Price is a bit steep, but if Silence is your goal, its worth it.

Other Thoughts: I've got two, a 520w and a 400w. Both are working great.

1 out of 5 eggsDead after 7 months

This review is from: SeaSonic Platinum Series SS-400FL2 Active PFC F3 400W ATX12V Fanless 80 PLUS Platinum Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Silent when it worked.

Cons: Expensive and unreliable. It took me awhile to figure out that the PSU was dying. My pc would continuously freeze, at least everyother day. The unit died at the beginning of Jun 2014 The first time ever that I have problems with a PSU. Out of $100+.

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointing.

This review is from: SeaSonic Platinum Series SS-400FL2 Active PFC F3 400W ATX12V Fanless 80 PLUS Platinum Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: None... Never got to test it.

Cons: DOA... Powers on for 2 seconds then makes a slight popping sound and shuts off.

Other Thoughts: Should have paid more attention to everybody elses failures on the reviews... thought I might get lucky but I knew it was a risk... won't buy another.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: SeaSonic Platinum Series SS-400FL2 Active PFC F3 400W ATX12V Fanless 80 PLUS Platinum Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Great PSU, stable voltage and stays cool.

Cons: This PSU is slightly longer than the standard PSUs due to the modular design and connectors. It didn't fit nicely inside LIAN LI PC-Q25A case.

5 out of 5 eggsTotal Silence and High Efficiency

This review is from: SeaSonic Platinum Series SS-400FL2 Active PFC F3 400W ATX12V Fanless 80 PLUS Platinum Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: This is the best PSU I have ever owned. Not only is it totally silent (it has no fan), but it is 80 PLUS Platinum. That is as efficient as any available desktop PSU.

Furthermore, the cables are individually attached to and removable from the PSU. That means you only attach the ones you need, and if you need to upgrade the PSU to another Seasonic, you can just leave the components connected and reattach the cables to the new, larger PSU.

Cons: Very expensive.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome!

This review is from: SeaSonic Platinum Series SS-400FL2 Active PFC F3 400W ATX12V Fanless 80 PLUS Platinum Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Silent; no buzzing as some have reported. I measure less than one watt power draw while in standby. The high efficiency and no moving parts makes it excellent for a system that's going to be running 24/7. Modular wires.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: It came with a great little storage bag and some nice velcro cable ties. The storage bag is nice for the modular cables you're not using at the moment but don't want to loose!

4 out of 5 eggsNice But....

This review is from: SeaSonic Platinum Series SS-400FL2 Active PFC F3 400W ATX12V Fanless 80 PLUS Platinum Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: I bought this for an HTPC. I love the look and feel of this. Very solid built, and easy to figure out.

Cons: Defective Connector from PS to SATA. Believe it fried one of my hard drives and also prevented system from booting at all.

Other Thoughts: On connecting everything, the system wouldn't start. It "Seemed" like maybe it was overloaded. I mean this is a 400Watt Power Supply and I thought maybe I had too many things plugged in (Despite my calculations).

Had installed in it: SSD drive, 2 1TB regular sata Hard drives, and a Blu Ray Drive. Low wattage APU (65W AMD). and a Micro ATX ASUS motherboard. No add-on graphics or sound cards.

During the process of troubleshooting, one of my hard drives started popping and smoking.. The drive was working fine before.. Don't know if it's related but I suspect that it is.

So I unplugged the hard drives and Blu Ray and after that, everything came up fine, so I assumed the capacity of the Power Supply was just too low for my components.

FastForward a few days: I ordered a larger SeaSonic 660Watt Power Supply, got everything put together.. The system would not power on, just like before.

Ultimately found out that one of the Power Supply cables was defective. When this specific cable was connected to a hard drive, the system would not boot. I changed it out with another cable and everything was fine.

Contemplating putting the 400W back in to see if it will work as originally intended.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you Marvin for purchasing Seasonic. I am sorry about the cable issue, very possibly one of the pins was not seated properly. If you wish, please contact us at newegg@seasonicus.com and we will try to sort out the cable issue for you. Thank You.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect for silent HTPC

This review is from: SeaSonic Platinum Series SS-400FL2 Active PFC F3 400W ATX12V Fanless 80 PLUS Platinum Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Mated with a 35W TDP Core i3, an SSD for the system drive and a low RPM HDD for bulk storage, my HTPC is quite literally silent.

And sips power. 35W - 40W max at full load.

Cons: Expensive for a 400W power supply.. But that is to be expected of a platinum power supply, much less a FANLESS platinum power supply.

Other Thoughts: Might be expensive, but if you want a completely silent build, it's more than worth the money.

OTOH, If you're OK with a teeny, tiny bit of fan noise, you can spend a little less and opt for a different P./S with a mostly quiet 120MM fan and more wattage. For example, I have an Antec EarthWATTS 750 in another rig, and I can barely hear that P/S from across the room. It was about the same price I paid for this.

Basically, the question comes down to how much is total silence worth to you? For me, it was completely worth this price for an HTPC build.

1 out of 5 eggsno support from seasonic

This review is from: SeaSonic Platinum Series SS-400FL2 Active PFC F3 400W ATX12V Fanless 80 PLUS Platinum Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Not much

Cons: One of the connectors broke
seasonic never responded to any emails
occasionally makes high pitch noise

Other Thoughts: Bought this a few months ago. When installing it, one of the sata connectors, (none of which fit well with any of my devices) broke. The plastic edge came off because it didn't fit quite right. None of my other PSUs have had this problem. I attempted to contact season through their website multiple times, they never even responded.
Also, while it is completely silent most of the time, it will occasionally start making a high pitch noise for about an hour or two.
