4 out of 5 eggsNice But....

This review is from: SeaSonic Platinum Series SS-400FL2 Active PFC F3 400W ATX12V Fanless 80 PLUS Platinum Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: I bought this for an HTPC. I love the look and feel of this. Very solid built, and easy to figure out.

Cons: Defective Connector from PS to SATA. Believe it fried one of my hard drives and also prevented system from booting at all.

Other Thoughts: On connecting everything, the system wouldn't start. It "Seemed" like maybe it was overloaded. I mean this is a 400Watt Power Supply and I thought maybe I had too many things plugged in (Despite my calculations).

Had installed in it: SSD drive, 2 1TB regular sata Hard drives, and a Blu Ray Drive. Low wattage APU (65W AMD). and a Micro ATX ASUS motherboard. No add-on graphics or sound cards.

During the process of troubleshooting, one of my hard drives started popping and smoking.. The drive was working fine before.. Don't know if it's related but I suspect that it is.

So I unplugged the hard drives and Blu Ray and after that, everything came up fine, so I assumed the capacity of the Power Supply was just too low for my components.

FastForward a few days: I ordered a larger SeaSonic 660Watt Power Supply, got everything put together.. The system would not power on, just like before.

Ultimately found out that one of the Power Supply cables was defective. When this specific cable was connected to a hard drive, the system would not boot. I changed it out with another cable and everything was fine.

Contemplating putting the 400W back in to see if it will work as originally intended.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect for silent HTPC

This review is from: SeaSonic Platinum Series SS-400FL2 Active PFC F3 400W ATX12V Fanless 80 PLUS Platinum Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Mated with a 35W TDP Core i3, an SSD for the system drive and a low RPM HDD for bulk storage, my HTPC is quite literally silent.

And sips power. 35W - 40W max at full load.

Cons: Expensive for a 400W power supply.. But that is to be expected of a platinum power supply, much less a FANLESS platinum power supply.

Other Thoughts: Might be expensive, but if you want a completely silent build, it's more than worth the money.

OTOH, If you're OK with a teeny, tiny bit of fan noise, you can spend a little less and opt for a different P./S with a mostly quiet 120MM fan and more wattage. For example, I have an Antec EarthWATTS 750 in another rig, and I can barely hear that P/S from across the room. It was about the same price I paid for this.

Basically, the question comes down to how much is total silence worth to you? For me, it was completely worth this price for an HTPC build.

1 out of 5 eggsno support from seasonic

This review is from: SeaSonic Platinum Series SS-400FL2 Active PFC F3 400W ATX12V Fanless 80 PLUS Platinum Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Not much

Cons: One of the connectors broke
seasonic never responded to any emails
occasionally makes high pitch noise

Other Thoughts: Bought this a few months ago. When installing it, one of the sata connectors, (none of which fit well with any of my devices) broke. The plastic edge came off because it didn't fit quite right. None of my other PSUs have had this problem. I attempted to contact season through their website multiple times, they never even responded.
Also, while it is completely silent most of the time, it will occasionally start making a high pitch noise for about an hour or two.

4 out of 5 eggsNot silent, but quiet

This review is from: SeaSonic Platinum Series SS-400FL2 Active PFC F3 400W ATX12V Fanless 80 PLUS Platinum Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Modular, efficient, cheap, so good for economy builds / media PCs

Cons: Even without fans, it still produces an audible hum. It's quiet, but it's not silent.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi John, thank you for choosing Seasonic. Please note, analog devices will make some electrical noises from the windings. But at the same time, can you please make sure all your energy savings modes, especially standby modes, are enabled. This should resolve your noise issue. Thank you.

Bought another brand could not wait any longer. Out $20 for ups return and then fuel and time. Thought SeaSonic was a good brand with QC. How did this 1 slip through?

4 out of 5 eggsmostly silent

This review is from: SeaSonic Platinum Series SS-400FL2 Active PFC F3 400W ATX12V Fanless 80 PLUS Platinum Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Very quiet due to being fanless. Plentiful modular cables for such an underpowered unit.

Cons: Annoying coil whine, very expensive when compared to other PSUs.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: SeaSonic Platinum Series SS-400FL2 Active PFC F3 400W ATX12V Fanless 80 PLUS Platinum Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: My goodness what a wonderful PSU. Silent. Did I mention silent. modular adapters can be removed, which allows airflow and general clutter to be improved. Also, it's silent.

Cons: Wow expensive, but worth it

Other Thoughts: I've always loved Seasonic PSUs, and this one does not dissapoint.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

This review is from: SeaSonic Platinum Series SS-400FL2 Active PFC F3 400W ATX12V Fanless 80 PLUS Platinum Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Quiet, dependable, modular cables, low power draw

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I installed this in a media server PC that I built. I wanted a power supply that was quiet and efficient. This power supply has been in service 24/7 since November 2011 (over 2 years) and has had no issues. The machine ended up drawing around 20 watts at idle and is perfectly silent.

1 out of 5 eggsonce a week failure

This review is from: SeaSonic Platinum Series SS-400FL2 Active PFC F3 400W ATX12V Fanless 80 PLUS Platinum Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: fanless

Cons: Approximately once a week PC crashes, Windows event viewer reports different things. Pretty sure it was the PS failure because after replacement now crashes occurs for two month.

Other Thoughts: Read the RMA policy of Seasonic. "No guaranty to whole new replacement" - whatever it means.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi, Sorry for the inconvenience. Is the system ok now? If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at newegg@seasonicus.com I will also look into the warranty statment issue. Thank you.
