5 out of 5 eggsX-850: Overall Great Product

This review is from: SeaSonic X Series X-850 (SS-850KM3 Active PFC F3) 850W ATX12V v2.3 / EPS 12V v2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: - Quiet fan
- Fully modular
- Absolutely no problems so far (I've had it for 9 months now)
- Cable length for the most part was fine

Cons: - The 4 pin connector for the mobo was a little too short to run through the back of my Corsair Carbide 400R for uber cable management
- not sure how many PSUs come with braided cables, but it would have been nice...

Other Thoughts: I know that Corsair has official braided cables for its PSUs...I haven't been able to find this on Seasonic's website, but would love to get a green/black set for increased swag and cable management.

5 out of 5 eggsA must have..

This review is from: SeaSonic X Series X-850 (SS-850KM3 Active PFC F3) 850W ATX12V v2.3 / EPS 12V v2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: This PSU is solid, and you can sum up the level of quality relatively fast, even without the elaborate packaging and sacks..lol, yes, "sacks" to store your cables in... I'm not complaining, I just think its bizarre lol. Not sure if I bought a PSU or a bottle of Crown...

Make no mistake though, there are few occasions where product quality really does justify a little packaging bling, and when you buy a PSU, and you have the money to make sure you get the best brand on the market, you buy a Seasonic.

Cons: This isn't a con, but for those out there that haven't done a build in a few years, or even if you're just replacing an older PSU, there is one step that is a bit different. As most people know, this PSU, and most modern quality PSUs are fully modular in order to grant better cable management. You'll notice that on the Seasonic X 850 there is an upper row of labels, and a bottom row; indicating which output connectors you should use, such as MB, PCI-E, Peripherals etc..

When you connect your 24 pin ATX connector which will extend out from the bottom row, there is an additional connector on the PSU side of the cable that plugs into one of the connectors on the top row. Your PC won't boot if you forget to plug that in. If my description seems complicated or vague, don't worry, you'll see exactly what I mean when you get yours.

Other Thoughts: Awesomeness.

5 out of 5 eggsGood buy for PSU

This review is from: SeaSonic X Series X-850 (SS-850KM3 Active PFC F3) 850W ATX12V v2.3 / EPS 12V v2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Fully modular. enough to power my gaming rig with one GeForce GTX 780Ti Graphic card and a bunch of fans. the cables are long enough too. being modular you can use the cables you need and the rest go in the bag it came with.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Good overall PSU. With SeaSonic, you know you spent your money in a good product.

5 out of 5 eggsEXCELLENT ALL-Arounder

This review is from: SeaSonic X Series X-850 (SS-850KM3 Active PFC F3) 850W ATX12V v2.3 / EPS 12V v2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Excellent reviews all-around - I did A LOT of research before investing in this new PSU

FUTURE-PROOF - Running an i7-4770K with mid-OC and MSI 780 Lightning - needed (2) 8-Pin Power for Graphix with room to add a 2nd in future if I so desire

Cons: None - maybe price, but I had (2) 20-buck gift cards from my Seagate HDDs & used those to supplement

Documentation / Labeling on cables could be a bit better (English is their 4th or 5th language...)

Other Thoughts: If you are assembling an upper-end (but not bleeding-edge) system, with modern componentry that draws less juice than it used to - an 850 Watt Unit should be more than ample for most people.

And this one is exceptional

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome power supply

This review is from: SeaSonic X Series X-850 (SS-850KM3 Active PFC F3) 850W ATX12V v2.3 / EPS 12V v2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Outstanding power supply
Above average voltage stability
Excellent noise control features
Modular

Cons: Price

Other Thoughts: I've been a proud Seaonic power user for many years and I'm happy to say that this brand has never let me down. In fact, I still own and use my very first Seasonic PSU(550w), which was purchased over 10 years ago.

Granted, no product is perfect, though I have complete confidence in the Seasonic's product warranty which has proven to be top notch in my own experience.

When it comes to power supplies, Seasonic remains at the top of my list.

2 out of 5 eggsPCI-E Cable keeps melting!!!

This review is from: SeaSonic X Series X-850 (SS-850KM3 Active PFC F3) 850W ATX12V v2.3 / EPS 12V v2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Works...powers a ok computer

Cons: Cable melts on high end video cards 7990 Sapphire.
I've had 2 cables melt before, and now I have my 3rd pci-e 8 ping cable melting again when it comes to using my Sapphire 7990 for over 2 days. The modular PSU i think is ok, however the flexible 8 pin PCI-E cables are poor wiring as the connectors have melted again!!

Other Thoughts: This ticks me off... i bought this power supply and sent it back, yet it has started melting my cables again. I will use corsair for high end stuff now on. Seasonic is ok for midgrade to low grade equipment, however I cannot afford to keep sending my PSU back off.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Jonathan, have you contacted Seasonic USA for cable replacement? It is not necessariy that is the power supply that is meling the cables but rather the possible over spec of the power draw from the perpherials that is causing the connectors to melt. All our cables are factory tested for conformity. Please e-mail me at newegg@seasonicus.com if you need further support in this matter. Thank you.

5 out of 5 eggsIt's a power supply.

This review is from: SeaSonic X Series X-850 (SS-850KM3 Active PFC F3) 850W ATX12V v2.3 / EPS 12V v2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: It's fully modular, pretty small for the wattage, and the fan's quiet.

Cons: It has yet to make me breakfast.

Other Thoughts: It came in a faux-velvet bag, which was pretty cool. The 8-pin EPS cable is a bit short, but of course it's modular, so no worries there--you just might want to buy an extender if you have a big case.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far so good

This review is from: SeaSonic X Series X-850 (SS-850KM3 Active PFC F3) 850W ATX12V v2.3 / EPS 12V v2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: I have two of these in my computers one over a year and this one for a few months. I love modular PSU because of the ability to not have random extra cords in the case. They have worked pretty well for me No loud noises from it.

Cons: Nothing to report so far.

1 out of 5 eggsFailed immediately

This review is from: SeaSonic X Series X-850 (SS-850KM3 Active PFC F3) 850W ATX12V v2.3 / EPS 12V v2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Nice assortment of cables

Cons: It died on it's second start up and appears to have killed a motherboard in the process

Other Thoughts: This is being RMA'd for refund. I'm not risking any more of my hardware.

Manufacturer Response:

Sorry your purchase did not meet your needs. Normally speaking Seasonic power supplies all come with the necessary safety features to prevent any damange to your system components. Have you had your MB checked?

1 out of 5 eggsUpdate

This review is from: SeaSonic X Series X-850 (SS-850KM3 Active PFC F3) 850W ATX12V v2.3 / EPS 12V v2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Great PSU while it worked
Lots of nice extras
Looks good

Cons: SATA/IDE rails developed a problem 34 days after purchase (so much for an easy newegg RMA). 12v, ground, ground, O/L (out of limits) on the 5v.
No one EVER answers the phone at SeaSonic I called multiple times with the PSU and my Fluke DMM ready to trouble shoot and always got their VM.
Customer service is a joke.

Other Thoughts: Here is the worst part:
512GB Samsung Pro SSD- dead
2x WD 1TB drive in RAID- dead
LG optical drive-dead
ASUS P8Z8 gen3/Deluxe mobo- dead
2x EVGA GTX 560ti 448 FTW??
I7 2700k ???

Seasonic will do NOTHING for any component that was damaged as a result of their PSU failure. You are told to RMA through each MFG website. I am sorry, its not their responsibility, its SeaSonic's!

Manufacturer Response:

Hi BVM, Seasonic power supplies all come with the necessary safety features to protect against any damage to your PC components. In situaiton such as a massive surge from the AC wall outlet (ie lightening strike or similar), it is possible the power supply is not able to protect the components against such events. But without adverse outside influence, if the power supply fails, it should not damage the componets. You mentioned that you have tried to contact SeasonicUSA without sucess, but you were instruced to RMA via MFG websites? Can I as in what format did you receive these instructions? You are welcome to contact me directly at walter@seasonicus.com. Thank you.
