5 out of 5 eggsPSU, WHat is there to say

This review is from: SeaSonic X Series X-850 (SS-850KM3 Active PFC F3) 850W ATX12V v2.3 / EPS 12V v2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Fully Modular wires allows you to only use the ones you need and leave off the ones you don't to ease the wire clutter in the case.

Flat wires allow for wires to be over lapped behind the motherboard tray for easier wire management and routing.

Very quiet fan. I can not and have never heard this PSU's fan over the rest of the case fans installed.

Actually puts out the 850W or more that it is rated for. I have run an HD 7970 OCed and a R9 280 OCed along with a Phenom II X4 965 OCed to 4.073 GHz on this PSU and it never even hiccuped.

Cons: Doesn't make the PC levitate off the floor. I really can not think of any. I would buy it again.

Other Thoughts: Running this PSU has been a pleasure. I have never worried that if something went wrong and the PC crashed it was the PSU.

Like I mentioned before I have stressed this PSU to it's max and it never had an issue. When I say stressed I mean with stress test programs and bench marking.

This thing will handle most dual SLI/Crossfire setups. If you are looking at triple card setups you already know to shoot for the Kilowatt or higher range for a PSU.

1 out of 5 eggsSeasonic USA - Bad Attitude & Bad Equipment

This review is from: SeaSonic X Series X-850 (SS-850KM3 Active PFC F3) 850W ATX12V v2.3 / EPS 12V v2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Quiet

Cons: Kevin in the Seasonic USA was so rude, accusatory and non technical! I used Seasonic's paper clip test, and it failed. I tried 2 motherboards and they both were failing. So I RMA'd it. Twice! Still have not received it back. No reports, just big attitude from Kevin in Asuca, Ca.

Other Thoughts: Do NOT buy the Seasonic Power Supplies!

5 out of 5 eggsSeasonic X Series Power Supply

This review is from: SeaSonic X Series X-850 (SS-850KM3 Active PFC F3) 850W ATX12V v2.3 / EPS 12V v2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: This is everything I expected from a name like Seasonic. Fully modular, 80+ Gold and a near silent fan, premium build quality and excellent efficiency and voltage regulation. I have all the connectors I need installed without having to figure out what to do with all the extra cables and it doesn't run hot even though it's blocked off from the rest of the case by a PSU shroud.

Cons: None

1 out of 5 eggsDOA - Tried in two working computers

This review is from: SeaSonic X Series X-850 (SS-850KM3 Active PFC F3) 850W ATX12V v2.3 / EPS 12V v2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Excellent presentation. Enough cables for most builds. Low fan noise. Also has hybrid fan control to reduce noise.

Cons: Installed in working computer. It screamed at me after turning on, computer did not boot. After checking cables again, it stll screamed, fan came on. Then nothing. After reinstalling old PS, computer worked. Tried in second working computer, no turn on or boot.
No manual or warrenty card, but found online. No picture of modular panel.

Other Thoughts: I tried it in a working computer before risking it on my new build. I am glad I did. My plan was to replace the Motherboard, CPU, memory and Power Supply in my old computer to get better performance. I will now have to rethink my goals.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Jim, Sorry but can you please write to: newegg@seasonicus.com and please let us know what has happened to your power supply. I am not clear on what you mean by "it screamed at me after turning on, computer did not boot". Normally speaking, the PSU will not make any noises and if the computer did not boot, you must check to make sure all the cables are properly connected and use only the cables provided with the PSU, none other.
As well, inside the power supply carton is the user manul & warranty card, so this is strange that you did not find any. Please write to: newegg@seasonicus.com and please let us know what happened so we can do our best to resolve your issue. Thank You.

5 out of 5 eggsWorth the Price

This review is from: SeaSonic X Series X-850 (SS-850KM3 Active PFC F3) 850W ATX12V v2.3 / EPS 12V v2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Fully modular which really simplifies cable management.
No noise as the fan rarely turns on or is needed.
Plenty of power.
Reliable

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I have two builds with this model, both about 2-years old, and two builds with its earlier 850W model, now 6-years old. There are cheaper PSU's on the market but the Seasonics are so reliable that they are never a cause for concern and are well worth the investment.

I blow the dust out of the PSU once a year!

Cable sleeving appears to have changed since I last purchased a Seasonic X Series.

I've run numerous overclocking configurations with GTX 680's and 780's in SLI mode and this PSU just keeps on running.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid PSU

This review is from: SeaSonic X Series X-850 (SS-850KM3 Active PFC F3) 850W ATX12V v2.3 / EPS 12V v2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Rock solid and stable.
Modular.
Quiet fan.
Reasonably small size for the power.

Cons: Cable sleeving is kind of cheap - still better than a lot of the stuff out there, though.

Other Thoughts: Though I haven't come close to taxing this PSU, I've toyed with overclocking my CPU and GPU at different times, and it never missed a beat.

1 out of 5 eggsRIP

This review is from: SeaSonic X Series X-850 (SS-850KM3 Active PFC F3) 850W ATX12V v2.3 / EPS 12V v2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Looks pretty. Has pretty bags you throw back into the box never to be seen again unless you RMA.

Cons: Lasted less than a week. In retrospect I kept smelling a burning odor about an hour before it died but could not trace it the my workstation . I had an abrupt power down with a pop sound. I checked all the cables with no issues with an approximate time 15 minute's tried to power back up with no joy. Swapped back to surplus 5 year old Antec True Power 850 and away I went with no issues.

Other Thoughts: No way was the power supply inadequate for the load.

5 out of 5 eggsUpdate on Review from Below

This review is from: SeaSonic X Series X-850 (SS-850KM3 Active PFC F3) 850W ATX12V v2.3 / EPS 12V v2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: To update my review posted a couple posts below:

The coil whine all but totally disappeared when NVIDIA released video driver 344.65. Could have been a video card issue as I have learned that this can happen with EVGA SuperClocked 02G-P4-2774-KR GeForce GTX 770 2GB Video Card... as reported by Newegg shoppers.

Had to run game settings lower in COD-AW than I should have needed to given my hardware. The whine in speakers was too distracting with them maxed. But when the new NVIDIA driver came out, I noticed a lowering of the tolerable level I had accepted and tried maxing it out. Still dead quiet. That will work. :)

Cons: My only con was the whine in speakers which I'd attributed to power supply. This vanished with NVIDIA driver 344.65.

Other Thoughts: Thanks to Seasonic for replying to my earlier post that described my problem. I only took one egg for it and they still took the time to address my concern.

4 out of 5 eggsTough reliable PSU

This review is from: SeaSonic X Series X-850 (SS-850KM3 Active PFC F3) 850W ATX12V v2.3 / EPS 12V v2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: - Reliable
- Efficient surge and shorts protection: saved my system multiple times.
- runs cool and pretty silent

Cons: - auto fan option seems to let the PSU get to a rather high temperature before fan kicks in ! at least it contaminates all tower components with non exhausted heat not to mention PSU itself longevity and performance impact.
- Cables look good and are decently lenghted, but they are stiff, PCI-E cables each (of the 4) have 2 connectors: giving the impression that it would allow to power A modern video card with just one cable ( 2x 8 pin connectors per cable) : impression confirmed by the rather poor and not knowledgeable phone customer service, but FALSE: a R9 280X was artifacting because it was powered by one cable PCI-E only ( 6 + 8 pins).

Other Thoughts: great PSU
old school shielded cables option would be a plus.
