5 out of 5 eggsSeaSonic M12II 850w Modular PSU

This review is from: SeaSonic M12II 850 SS-850AM 850W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Full-Modular Active PFC FULL-modular Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: 1. Brand - It's SeaSonic for crying out loud! I have owned SEVERAL SeaSonic PSUs and NEVER been disappointed!. 2. Cables - Fully modular, FLAT cables. Makes cable management much easier. 3. Extras - nice bag to keep your spare cables in.

Cons: None at this time

Other Thoughts: I may be reading the markings wrong, but it appears that if I were to use BOTH PCI express cables (for SLI/Crossfire) that I can't run an 8 pin CPU power cable?! If anyone could shed some light on this it would be greatly appreciated. Like I said, I could just be reading the markings wrong.

This review is from: SeaSonic M12II 850 SS-850AM 850W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Full-Modular Active PFC FULL-modular Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Nice cables.

Cons: DOA, which I was unable to determine until after installing, routing, and grouping all of the cables, which I then had the fun job of undoing in order to RMA this. $2k+ build, and it's worthless until I can get a working PSU. One egg until my new one is here, and probably no higher than a 3 for all the trouble a defective unit causes.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Jakey, sorry for the inconvenience. Please do let us know how the RMA process has gone for you. Please write to: newegg@seasonicus.com Thank you.

4 out of 5 eggsVery Good Performance

This review is from: SeaSonic M12II 850 SS-850AM 850W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Full-Modular Active PFC FULL-modular Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: I used the SeaSonic M12II 850 watt supply in my latest build and it has performed flawlessly. My new ASUS Maximus Hero (I-7 Haswell) system came up fine the first time and this power supply has handled the power requirements without flinching. I love the modular system for cables and the end result after installation is a very clean layout with only the cables you need present.

Cons: The only knock on this supply will probably not be of concern to most people but it was an issue at my location. The computer that the supply is installed in is used with a software defined radio. One of the requirements for use with an SDR is that the components need to be well filtered for RF emissions across the HF spectrum. I found the SeaSonic to be an emitter of RF oscillations at 60 KHz intervals from below the AM broadcast band to 30 MHz. This is an indication that the AC primary line is not de-coupled (flitered) adequately for RF. Note that a comparable Corsair 800 watt supply was perfectly clean in this regard. It was not difficult to overcome this shortcoming by utilizing an external common-mode AC line filter but for FCC emission compliance this really should be done by the manufacturer with internal components.

Other Thoughts: This appears to be a very solid power supply and a reliable performer.

5 out of 5 eggsSimply the best

This review is from: SeaSonic M12II 850 SS-850AM 850W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Full-Modular Active PFC FULL-modular Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: This PSU is superb as are all the PSU's made by SeaSonic. It is quite and provided more than enough amps to push whatever you want to cram your computer with. What's more is that it does so with almost non existent current ripple and exceeds its listed specifications

Cons: Didn't come with a pearl red metal flake power coating. But nothing does.

Other Thoughts: Before buying any power supply check real power supply reviews at Hardware Secrets. You will see why spending a little more is well worth it.

1 out of 5 eggsPunk'd by Seasonic - No Rebate

This review is from: SeaSonic M12II 850 SS-850AM 850W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Full-Modular Active PFC FULL-modular Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Product seems to work well.

Cons: Complied with rebate instructions to the letter. Got notice of invalid UPC. Apparently I'm smart enough to send in the right documents, but dumb enough to get played by Seasonic's rebate scam.

Buy their product if you wish, but prepare to pay sticker.

I build often, both for friends and my own. For this recent build I received my other rebates from ASUS and PNY no problem. Seasonic couldn't make it happen. So Seasonic, that makes you incompetent, or willful criminals.

Cheers to Seasonic's wiz-kid in Finance that came up with the "cheat our customers" business plan. The $20 you kept from me (and I presume many others that don't take this seriously) will keep me from buying Seasonic in the future.

Manufacturer Response:

I am sorry for your rebate experience and the invalid UPC. Please send to me your proof of purchase, model and serial number to: newegg@seasonicus.com and I will ask our USA office to investigate this issue as soon as possible.
As reference to UPC, perhaps there has been a mix up between UPC and Serial Number? Thank you.

5 out of 5 eggsVERY Quite make me VERY happy :)

This review is from: SeaSonic M12II 850 SS-850AM 850W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Full-Modular Active PFC FULL-modular Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Im using this on a Lian Li Pitstop T60 Test Bench so having a near silent PSU and Full Modular was a must. After doing my research and comparing prices and features, this Seasonic fit the bill perfectly. There are a
lot of PSUs out there that claim to be "silent" running and are far from it.. This M12II is a great example of a PSU that delivers what it says. Being my first Seasonic I am pleasantly surprised. It is almost completely silent all the way up to about 65% fan speed and very tolerable even under full load. And that's on an open air test bench where I can literally hear everything. The Modular cables are 100% Black and most of them are Flat Cables which makes organizing them very manageable. I haven't had any length issues. This is a steal at $129 given all of its perks and being a quality name brand like Seasonic.

Cons: Ive only had it a few days so none so far.

Other Thoughts: I did you research for you.. Quality Brand, Modular, Flat Cables, 850w and SUPER QUIET for $129! You cant go wrong here.

3 out of 5 eggsDisappointing

This review is from: SeaSonic M12II 850 SS-850AM 850W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Full-Modular Active PFC FULL-modular Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Pretty solidly built, as expected from SeaSonic.

Black sleeving on the cables is well done.

Decent amount of connectors supplied.

Cons: I did NOT receive a fully modular PSU as described. I received a semi-modular one which is not acceptable. I tried to resolve this with Newegg and it was the first time I have ever been let down by their support.

The cables for the 6/6+2 PCIe don't provide enough cable between the two connectors so they need to be bent severely to connect to a video card that requires both connectors.

The 6+2 connectors/wiring is poorly done and the +2 part doesn't line up correctly on one of the cables.

The size of the PSU itself is odd. It is too large for a number of cases.

Other Thoughts: It is a solid PSU but it just falls short in a few areas I would have never expected a SeaSonic power supply to miss on. Receiving the semi-modular model was also a major letdown since it is clearly labeled as a full modular PSU.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Dominic, I am sorry about the confusion between full modular and semi modular. This may have been a stock issue at NewEgg and I am sorry it is not resolved to your sastisfaction. Please e-mail me at newegg@seasonicus.com and let me know if the situation has worked out or not. As for the size of the PSU, our platforms have some of the smallest footprints in the industry and if you need something of a smaller metal case, then possibly you will need to look at a unit smaller than 850w. Thank you.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks Good

This review is from: SeaSonic M12II 850 SS-850AM 850W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Full-Modular Active PFC FULL-modular Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Well, she purrs like a kitten, and supplies plenty of power, I got the 850w so I can do whatever I want in the future and not have to worry, also; power supplies are at their best when they run at 40-60% so keeping it right in the middle is key. Seasonic is the best and now this baby has a 5-yr warranty (paper was in the box) even though originally it said 3. So, good warranty, good components, quite, and not bad at cable management (mostly my haf 932).

Cons: Only that it's not "fully" modular, the cable are a little stiff, but I got it to work fine.

Other Thoughts: I got this for $99.99 when it was on sale, and I couldn't be happier, enjoy. Also the HAF 932 is an awesome case! I don't care what anyone says, everyone has their own conflicting opinion, it never ends, it's like jail where everyone's a lawyer.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat PSU

This review is from: SeaSonic M12II 850 SS-850AM 850W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Full-Modular Active PFC FULL-modular Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Works well, doesn't get hot. This PSU seems to have a bunch of connectors for all kinds of things. Probably more than I need.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: For a not real known PSU brand, I am quite happy with the quality and performance of this PSU. Good choice.
