5 out of 5 eggsBest PSUs on the market.

This review is from: SeaSonic Platinum SS-860XP2 860W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS PLATINUM Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: -No coil whine
-You can bypass the fanless mode (the fan is silent anyway, and great quality.)
-Honest specifications. Works great with demanding SLI setups
-Modular cables are easy to work with.

Cons: -None, although the logo printing on the sides of the unit is done poorly. No biggie.

Other Thoughts: Great, Efficient PSU.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat PSU - For a couple of years....

This review is from: SeaSonic Platinum SS-860XP2 860W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS PLATINUM Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Very quiet to begin with
Nice modular cables
Seemingly high quality construction

Cons: After 2 years, a buzzing louder than all my system fans showed up - so much for spending the extra money on a quiet and high quality Seasonic.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Michael, We are sorry for the noise issue, please note, this can be the PSU and it can be the MB causing it as well. We will gladly RMA thsi unit for you, please contact Sea Sonic USA and please start the RMA process and they will sort it out for you. If you have questions or concerns, please contact me at newegg@seasonicus.com Thank You.

5 out of 5 eggsTop notch

This review is from: SeaSonic Platinum SS-860XP2 860W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS PLATINUM Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: I love these Seasonic hybrid PSU's.... they are very quiet.. completely modular.... and very reliable. The quality is top notch. The packaging is nice and the fit/finish is excellent.... but that's just on the outside. People always seem to underestimate the importance of a high quality PSU. It's the heart of your system... supplying every component with power. PSU's (in general) may not be flashy or get all the attention, but don't skimp on your PSU unless you want all kinds of weird problems down the line.

Cons: None. You get what you pay for.

Other Thoughts: I've never had to test out their customer service because all of my seasonic PSU's are still working great. The include documentation in the box that makes it easy to get in contact in the unlikely event you have a problem.

3 out of 5 eggsGot an XP instead of an XP2

This review is from: SeaSonic Platinum SS-860XP2 860W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS PLATINUM Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: I love the power supply I have, runs solid and provided power to two GPU cards, an i7, and a few drives.

Cons: My ONLY PROBLEM? I have been invoiced a Seasonic 860XP2 and received a Seasonic 860XP.

This may not be a problem now if one were to order and receive an XP2, but it is a headache to me as of current.

Other Thoughts: I only noticed now, upon referencing my invoice for some custom cabling and to find out that the difference between the PCI-E connector is not matching. My cables are indeed and I indeed requested the 860XP2, but I cannot fit them in my 860XP.

I am not sure it is the fault of Newegg or Seasonic for this mistake. Because of this, my aggregate review for the overall process at 3 egg.

I am not sure if at this point would the order be rectified.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Benjamin, Thank you for the review, but please note, this review section is for the power supply and not of the billing or delviery from NewEgg. Please contact NewEgg and to have this issue rectified. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at: newegg@seasonicus.com Thank you.

4 out of 5 eggsDifficulties with Perserverence

This review is from: SeaSonic Platinum SS-860XP2 860W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS PLATINUM Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Runs next silent with absolutely no coil wine even under high stress. This thing is a next-to-Deity amongst my old PSU's
You also get some nice bags that come along with it and everything is modular! So no more of that rat tail type PSU.
It also comes with a bag for the excess cables so you don't lose em #swag

Cons: First time I got it it basically spewed out electrical smoke and for some reason the fan was on the opposite direction of the replacement power supply I got afterwards. Sadly it killed my Motherboard and it wouldn't give me a video feed after trying multiple graphics cards and monitors but it needed to be replaced anyone and was fairly finicky but it didn't damage any other parts in my Rig.

Other Thoughts: It would've been nice if I didn't have to wait like 2 weeks for me to have a PC again but the worst is over and this PSU is still a great product regardless of the faulty one I got.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Power Supply!! Buy It!! Buy Two!!

This review is from: SeaSonic Platinum SS-860XP2 860W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS PLATINUM Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: I was so pleased with this power supply that I bought a second one to replace a different brand, same size, 860W Platinum, also bought from Newegg, but from a different manufacturer. The other one failed to power up a PC after being installed only a short time, one or two months. I checked with that Manufacturer's Support page and they will NOT honor their warranty. I hope that I never have that experience with SeaSonic.

Cons: No cons at this time. Cables different than other brands but still completely usable with all the connectors I think I'll ever need, more connectors and cables than I need right now with more left unused. Not a really a Con just not what I expected. Having extra cables left over unused with a modular power supply is by no means a Con.

Other Thoughts: Regarding the brand that this replaces, I will NEVER buy another P/S from that company. But I loved the first SeaSonic P/S so much that I went ahead and quickly bought a second one. If all goes well, I will stick with SeaSonic for a very long time. I'll never trust that other manufacturer again.

5 out of 5 eggsBest sub-1000W unit available

This review is from: SeaSonic Platinum SS-860XP2 860W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS PLATINUM Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: WOW. Just, wow. This PSU is everything I wanted and more. It runs cool and dead silent thanks to the "hybrid fan design" - basically it runs fanless unless you hit about 400W, which only happens during benchmarking in my case. And even then the excellent Sanyo Denki fan remains inaudible. It made me realize how loud my old power supply was: there was a small vibration coming from my exhaust fan that I never heard before I got this new PSU. And of course it runs cool, being rated 80+ Platinum. Lots of cables included for all your needs, there's even an additional 8-pin CPU power cable for those crazy overclocking motherboards. It's standard size so it will fit in just about any micro-ATX or ATX case, and most mini-ITX towers.

Cons: Only real con I can think of are the kinda stiff cables, and it,s not a major issue. Separating the individual wires can help if you really need some more flexibility.

Other Thoughts: While it can't really be considered a con, this PSU isn't very cable modding-friendly. Pre-made cable sets for this unit are rare and expensive, and if you want to make your own there are lots of dual wires in the 20+4-pin ATX power cable, you have to be extremely careful to avoid breaking them.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat PSU

This review is from: SeaSonic Platinum SS-860XP2 860W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS PLATINUM Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: It installed just fine and worked right away. I set the fan to silent mode so it kicks in when it gets too hot(which it hasn't). Worked great while playing Watch Dogs.

Cons: I couldn't get the motherboard plugs to snap in. They're all the way in but the clip doesn't snap in. It works fine though but figured I'd bring it up. Chances are it's just me.

Other Thoughts: For the price it's worth it.
