5 out of 5 eggsAwesome power supply

This review is from: SeaSonic Platinum SS-860XP2 860W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS PLATINUM Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Quiet
Platinum certified
Modular
Low power usage
SeaSonic performance and reliability

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Others have complained that the main power cord to the motherboard is too short. I'm using a HAF X full-tower case and the cord was plenty long and it isn't even stretched (loose).

5 out of 5 eggsReliable power source!

This review is from: SeaSonic Platinum SS-860XP2 860W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS PLATINUM Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: It hasn't conked out on me yet. It looks quite good in a black computer tower as well. The cable management is certainly there. And, it stays cool while being silent, (likely because I don't use anything near 860W so the fan never turns on).

Cons: I'm not a picky consumer. Therefore I can't really think of anything that I could use as a con. It has given me no problems as of yet.

Other Thoughts: I would recommend this power source for someone wanting a little future proofing.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: SeaSonic Platinum SS-860XP2 860W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS PLATINUM Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Provides stable power.

Quiet.

Single 12 V rail.

Modular, so I don't have a bunch of unused cables crowding up the case.

Cons: The power cable was barely long enough for routing in my Corsiar 550D case. This wouldn't be an issue without routing it behind the motherboard, but then it would be impeding airflow.

5 out of 5 eggsTop quality PSU from a brand known for it.

This review is from: SeaSonic Platinum SS-860XP2 860W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS PLATINUM Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: -Ultra-high, 80 Plus Platinum rated efficiency.
-Delivers the closest to advertised wattage of any power supply I've ever used.
-When set to Hybrid Mode, the fans rarely spin, even under high load.
-When the fans do operate, they are whisper quiet.
-Huge selection of modular cables that allow connection of any mix of components.
-7 year warranty.

Cons: -While the warranty is great, Seasonic's RMA process is a hassle and expensive.

Other Thoughts: I've been building computers for 20+ years. People often underestimate how vital a quality power supply is and I always buy high-end when I can. This is far and away the best power supply I've ever used. It's so high efficiency that the fans almost never need to turn and when they do, you basically can't hear them. Most power supplies are not able to deliver the maximum wattage they advertise but this one pretty much does in all the tests I've run. The modular cables are vast and a snap to use. It even looks nice and sleek if you have a system that has a windowed case.

My only complaint is that while it has a ridiculous warranty, Seasonic's RMA process leaves a lot to be desired. I had to send another unit in for repair that was damaged by a power surge. You create an RMA online, then have to send it to the middle of California at your expense (there is no advanced replacement option), wait at least 2 weeks with no way to track the status and if they can't find a problem, you have to pay them a $25US fee before they'll ship it back to you. The chances of you needing RMA service are very small but given the price of these units, it's ridiculous that they don't offer better service than this.

I can't recommend Seasonic enough. They're pricey but the quality and features are the best in their class. If you're building a powerful system, get one.
