2 out of 5 eggsPSU failure in under a month

This review is from: Seasonic SS-760XP2 ATX 12V/EPS 12V, 760W, 80 PLUS PLATINUM Full Modular certified Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Fully modular, reputable brand and performance. Was happy yet again with a premier class Seasonic PSU. Quiet operation and good power delivery on the 12v rail with a 7-year warranty.

Cons: Unfortunately, just 28 days after purchase with solid performance, the unit failed to power up my system. After pulling the unit and jumping it to see if there was any response, I was greeted by nothing. I have been using Seasonic PSU in the past few builds with zero issues. Really disappointed that my 5820k system is an art piece now instead of a work horse.

My system under full load should only consume 50%-60% of the capacity of this power supply, no reason for it to fail in such a short period of time.

I hope that the RMA unit will be rock solid and the power supply outlives the 7-year warranty attached to it. This is the first power supply to go on a personal build in almost 20 years.

Other Thoughts: I still have faith in Seasonic, no reason not to as these situations can happen. Should the RMA unit fail in a similar amount of time, I may need to investigate other possible solutions.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Seasonic SS-760XP2 ATX 12V/EPS 12V, 760W, 80 PLUS PLATINUM Full Modular certified Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Really solid PSU. I've been running it in my main for well over a year now. This is my second Seasonic PSU (the first being an X-650 that I sold to a friend) and it's again fantastic.

Cons: All my other thoughts are based on $0.20/kWh estimates and window A/C's with EER's of 11.5 BTU per watt.

Other Thoughts: Like everything else energy-efficient, the direct power cost only tells half the story. Since it's used indoors, going 80 PLUS Bronze (82% efficient at 20%) to Platinum (90% efficient), with a 200W DC load, saves a max of about a 0.5 kW/day. If I saved that half-kW, the price difference was more than worthwhile in under a year. The second story is about cooling the area. The old PSU would throw off another 1700 BTU of heat over 24 hours, so A/C would draw another ~0.15 kW/day. Combined, 0.65 kW/day means about $0.13/day or about $47.50/year. Your ROI would be better on light bulbs ($2.50 for a 60W replacement at an orange home improvement store). You'd save about 1.2 kW/day if they were kept on 24/7 so they'd buy themselves in about 11 days. Add in your A/C cost and you're repaid in 8 days at 24/7. Even more expensive bulbs ($5/ea) repay themselves quickly.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat/Efficient Power Supply

This review is from: Seasonic SS-760XP2 ATX 12V/EPS 12V, 760W, 80 PLUS PLATINUM Full Modular certified Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Total Modular Output, i.e. use only what you need. I can't speak about the hybrid mode, but in normal I have yet to hear the fan. All connectors fit tight with very close tolerances which is a very good thing. Cables are plenty long enough to use for a rebuild in a Cooler Master Storm Sniper.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: My previous 4 builds I have used Corsair power supplies, and have been very happy with them. I had heard good things about Seasonic P/S's so bit the bullet and bought this for my latest a year ago:
ASRock Z87 Extreme 6
Intel 4670K
CM Hyper 212 EVO
G.Skill Trident X 2x8GB DDR3 1600
Samsung 840 Pro 256GB
WD Black 2TB
EVGA GTX770 SC/ACX (SLI)
SILVERSTONE SST-FP32B-E Front 4 x USB3.0 Port (Great addition for older cases without USB 3.0 ports)

I, like many send in reviews after a build is complete, but for power supplies I like to wait 6-12 months. After all it is the one most important piece in your build. A poor quality P/S can fry thousands of dollars.

Additionally here is a handy tool to figure your power supply needs: extreme Power Supply Calculator Lite

5 out of 5 eggsSeasonic, still the best in the business and one of the best PSU ever?

This review is from: Seasonic SS-760XP2 ATX 12V/EPS 12V, 760W, 80 PLUS PLATINUM Full Modular certified Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: This is a report more than a review, I've been using this unit since April of 2014, this is one of the quietest PSU I've ever used. The build quality is second to none and platinum rated with enough power to run two hungry R9 290 Vapor X in crossfire with no hick-up + a very hungry 2600K at 1.4volt.

Cons: None that I can think of, except for the fan grill holes isn't colored like seasonic 850w and up Unit, that would have made for a great esthetic.

Other Thoughts: Recently I've upgraded to a Seasonic SS-1200W-XP3 and my gosh the fan on this unit is really dang loud, I don't quite understand this, since both unit uses the same 120mm fan.

So more than half a year, and no hick ups. There's absolutely nothing to complain about.

2 out of 5 eggsgood psu, horrible customer svc and rebate

This review is from: Seasonic SS-760XP2 ATX 12V/EPS 12V, 760W, 80 PLUS PLATINUM Full Modular certified Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: solid construction
quiet
long warranty
manufacturer reputation

Cons: after choosing to buy the more expensive ss-760xp2 with a warranty, i was mostly satisfied with my new psu. it runs great and has never given me any problems with my OC setup. However, the rebate service has been horrible. after waiting forever for my rebate, i called in and got the worst service ever from a rep who informed me that my rebate wasn't postmarked in time. nevermind the fact that i postmarked it myself on the day before the rebate ended, they informed me that they wouldn't be honoring the rebate. had i known that in advance i wouldn't have even bought this more expensive model.

Other Thoughts: decent hardware, just wanted folks to know that they're not honoring rebates, or at least if they are, not without making customers jump through a bunch of hoops.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Tony, I am sorry about your situation. Did you contwact NewEgg or Sea Sonic for the rebate. Normally speaking, I believe it would be NewEgg. This review is about the product and Sea Sonic service and experience. If the issue is related to NewEgg, please contact NewEgg. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at newegg@seasonicus.com Thank you!

2 out of 5 eggskinda works

This review is from: Seasonic SS-760XP2 ATX 12V/EPS 12V, 760W, 80 PLUS PLATINUM Full Modular certified Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: works now

Cons: with fan-less mode on causes event code 41 (63).
I turned it off and now no problem. Still defective, would've preferred the very high quality I paid for.

Other Thoughts: I spent the better part of a year or more researching components for my computer. There was a lot of decisions to make. I thought I would choose quality over budget. This power supply felt like a no-brainer and then I got this problem. The return process seems like a pain when it is working now. I never cared about the fan-less part but defective is defective. This product is not a "no-brainer."

Manufacturer Response:

Hi DaN, The event code 41 you have mentioned is normall not a power supply but a system issue. It can very well have been a lose connection somewhere and moving the parts around you may have improved the connection and now the system works. I recommend you try the hybrid mode again and if you still run into issues, please contact me at newegg@seasonicus.com Thank you.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Seasonic SS-760XP2 ATX 12V/EPS 12V, 760W, 80 PLUS PLATINUM Full Modular certified Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: This was a good price at the time. I read that this thing tends to run cooler than other PSU's w/ good voltage regulation, which are the primary reasons I bought this over a $10-20 cheaper seasonic. so far so good
MB cables are bundled and wrapped in mesh, all other cables are flat black
More than enough PCI-E 6+2 cables than I would ever need...could theoretically power 4 GPU's! (my case only fits 2)
they give you a shorter sata power and a longer sata power which is appreciated in a SFF build
Packaging is excellent, fresh PSU smell and all
has an extra switch to make the fan come on only selectively (ie when it's hot), stays off when it's cool, makes for quiet home

Cons: socket plug is oriented opposite of some other manufacturers, made plugging it in inside the case w/ a plug extender tricky, but hey can't have everything

5 out of 5 eggsGreat PSU

This review is from: Seasonic SS-760XP2 ATX 12V/EPS 12V, 760W, 80 PLUS PLATINUM Full Modular certified Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Easy to set up. Plug in what you need and go. Seems like it is of high quality materials.

7 Year warranty!

Cons: Not many. The cables are kind of hard to bend for cable management but it's nothing to difficult.

Other Thoughts: Would buy again, expecting it to last a long time.

3 out of 5 eggs"buzzing" noise!!

This review is from: Seasonic SS-760XP2 ATX 12V/EPS 12V, 760W, 80 PLUS PLATINUM Full Modular certified Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: "look" is good.
hybrid mode is good.

Cons: "buzzing" noise!!
It's a big stress to me.
Buzzing noise make "fanless(hybrid) mode" useless..
Is it spec? or defect?

Other Thoughts: Seasonic is very famous in PSU.
So i bought it with trust.
But it was a mistake.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Bae, sorry for any inconvenience but please enable all ErP and energy savings modes in the BIOS and this should resolve the buzzing noise in the PSU. If the noise persists, please contact us at: newegg@seasonicus.com Thank you.
