5 out of 5 eggsAmazing

This review is from: Seasonic SS-660XP2 ATX 12V/EPS 12V, 660W, 80 PLUS PLATINUM Full Modular certified Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: 80+ Platinum
One of the best, if not the best, OEM out there.
Great deal at the time
Protects your gear well

Cons: If you have a catastrophic failure, it might be hard to find it.

Other Thoughts: I'm driving an i7-5820k and 2x gtx 980's with this. Since I was dropping close to $2000 on a new build, I decided not to skimp on the non-sexy parts. I will never go back to any other OEM except possibly FSP. The efficiency, silence, and safety are a true cut above the rest. If I decide to bios mod my 980's to go further outside their TDP limit or go for a more robust water cooling setup, I'll just update to a larger Seasonic.

2 out of 5 eggsOut of luck after 18 months

This review is from: Seasonic SS-660XP2 ATX 12V/EPS 12V, 660W, 80 PLUS PLATINUM Full Modular certified Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Great unit when it's working

Cons: Not great when it dies before the warranty expires and you can't get a working replacement

Other Thoughts: RMA'ed first unit, got back a dead unit. Emailed support, no response. They recommended shipping it back in the original box for protection, I get it back in a UPS envelope.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Quinn, please write to newegg@seasonicus.com and please let me know your RMA number and I can trace and see what happened and try to resolve your issue satisfactorily. As well, to which e-mail address did you write to of which there was no response? The recommendation is to use the original carton but of course, if this is not possible, any carton will do provided it give sufficient protection to the power supply during transport. Thank you.

2 out of 5 eggsAnnoying Buzzing Sound

This review is from: Seasonic SS-660XP2 ATX 12V/EPS 12V, 660W, 80 PLUS PLATINUM Full Modular certified Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Great price for 80+ Platinum fully modular PSU (when on sale), only paid $70 after mail-in rebate. Hybrid mode is nice, never had the fan turn on while it was enabled. The included cables are high quality and the included bag for them is a nice bonus.

Cons: The constant high pitched buzzing sound is very annoying, even more so with my unusual case where the PSU mounts in the front. Sadly, this totally ruins an otherwise flawless product.

Manufacturer Response:

hi, thank you for you review. In reference to the noise, please make sure you have enabled all energy savings modes in the BIOS as this should resolve your issues. If not, then please contact us and we will try our best to sort this out for you. Please either write to: newegg@seasonicus.com or visit www.seasonicusa.com for RMA support. Thank You.

5 out of 5 eggsWorking Great

This review is from: Seasonic SS-660XP2 ATX 12V/EPS 12V, 660W, 80 PLUS PLATINUM Full Modular certified Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: No problems for almost 2 years

Cons: It has a fan and when the load increases the fan speeds up. It's usually quiet because I don't play games or do much that load stresses the computer.

4 out of 5 eggsOverpriced, Wrong Dimensions

This review is from: Seasonic SS-660XP2 ATX 12V/EPS 12V, 660W, 80 PLUS PLATINUM Full Modular certified Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Quality Components
Platinum Rating
Quiet Fan
Switch for fanless mode

Cons: 1. Dimensions pictured are wrong, which required substantial case mods. It is not 5.91" from front to back as illustrated, rather 6.3".

2. Velvet Bag - Waste of money. Why do you need a fancy bag for something you install once and never take around by itself anywhere? This unnecessarily adds to the cost of an already expensive model, for something of no use.

3. Poor cables - The cables and connectors are very rigid, expected better from this premium model. It made for a very difficult install in a small case. Need more diversity in the cables included, many duplicates were included but no variety. For instance 4 long PCIe cables were included, few people need cables two feet long which clutter and clog airflow. The flat cables are horrible and do not lend themselves to compact or efficient builds.

4. Strange huge cable bag - Also a waste of money. It's a strange design that is two pockets that fold so you can velcro them together, for no apparent purpose. Again, once installed there is no point to this bag. Only a small bag would be desired to hold extra cables, but this is huge and will hold every single cable. Why would you need a bag that holds ever single cable after install? A cheap Rosewill PSU I bought has a simple small cloth bag for leftovers which is more practical, and cheaper.

5. Overpriced - I was reluctant to pay this much but a PSU has a long usability life. I could have gotten a PSU 80% the quality for less than half the price. You definitely pay a premium, the elaborate bags don't help keep the cost down. This PSU cost more than any other component in my build, besides the CPU and GPU.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi James, thank you for your review and sorry for any inconvenience.
Please note:
1. The dimenstion is written as L 160 x W 150 x H 86 and this is correct. Perhaps we should have more clearly specified the L = Depth @ 160mm.
2. The cables are fairly stiff, especially if delviered in the winter time. The best solution is to use a hair dryer and carefully warm up the cables for easier system build. We must use a certain thickness of copper wire and this, together with the required plastic shielding thickness, adds to the stiffness of the cables.
2. As for the velvet & cable bags, when purchased in very large volumes, the cost is not very high. We did receive many positive and negative feedbacks over these bags and our PM will take all comments into consideration.
Thank you and if you have any concerns or questions, please write to newegg@seasonicus.com

5 out of 5 eggsPlatinum Beauty

This review is from: Seasonic SS-660XP2 ATX 12V/EPS 12V, 660W, 80 PLUS PLATINUM Full Modular certified Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Beautifully simple design
Fully modular
Platinum 80+ and heavy
Flat cable management...small caveat
I like the choice of modular cables. My last modular power supply didn't have more plain cables. So I ended up having to plug to 6 + 8 pin connectors to use two 6 pin connectors.

Cons: A lot, and I mean a whole lot, of flex in the modular base. Trying to plug in the motherboard cable took a few minutes and there was a lot of give. It barely clicked in and I thought I was going to break it.
The flat cables were a nice touch but the 24 pin connector was still wrapped like traditional wires. Just doesn't match.
I wish I had a choice of plain 6 pin connectors for my GTX 680 and not 6 + 2. But it's just a nit pick. I probably could get some aftermarket ones, I just don't like the look of hiding the extra +2 connector.

Other Thoughts: The flex when I plugged the motherboard cable in worried me. I wouldn't have been as worried if it just plugged in but the pins wouldn't budge in until I gave it a lot of force and then POP...in they went. It's only once I'll have to deal with it, but I would have liked if the cable just plugged in.
Other than that one experience. It's been masterful so far. Coming from a 750W bronze to 660W platinum and I love the idea of being so much closer to 100% efficiency. Got this on a huge sale dropping the price from $160 to $70 with the rebate. It was a great deal, but I didn't see myself spending the full price for a 3 year old design. As I have no performance issues under full load, there is no coil whine or any audible noise, and a seven year warranty, I'm leaving this at full 5 eggs. It's an awesome power supply. If it's on sale, or you have the means, get it. Highly recommended. Especially because it's one of the few brands that can design and manufacture their own power supplies.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far so good

This review is from: Seasonic SS-660XP2 ATX 12V/EPS 12V, 660W, 80 PLUS PLATINUM Full Modular certified Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Totally silent, no coil whine for me as of yet (just over a month of ownership). Plenty of modular connectors to choose from and it seems well built.

Cons: None thus far.
