5 out of 5 eggsGreat PSU!

This review is from: SeaSonic SSR-450RM 450W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Great PSU! I love the fact that it is semi-modular! This makes it really easy to manage cables in any case. I also really love the sleeves they put on the cables, it makes them look really clean!

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: I should have bought the 550W for the extra money, but that's something I'm going to have to live with :P If I didn't plan on buying a Video Card then this wouldn't even be a concern haha

1 out of 5 eggsSeaSonic SSR-450RM 450W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

This review is from: SeaSonic SSR-450RM 450W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Works perfectly for about five weeks. Output voltages was extremely stable. Very quiet. Length of the cables is adequate for the mid size case.

Cons: After five weeks the power supply starts turn on intermittently. Usually it powers up after few attempts, some time after disconnecting from the outlet. A few times it turns on a few seconds after the last push of the power button.
Pin 16 on the ATX 24-pin connector (green wire) received active Low State from the mother board every time at push the power button. PS was newer loaded with more than 200 watts of power measured at the outlet.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this power supply based on my experience with SeaSonic
SS-400FL2 power supply worked in old computer sins 2010 until a new built two month ago.
Another power supply installed powers up each and every time the power button is pushed.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Yurly,
I am sorry to hear of your current issue. Please kindly check the VRM on the MB as well. To do this, you will need to use another PSU in your system to see if the same issue results. If the issue persists, please contact our RMA service at seasonicusa.com and if you have any further questions or issues, please contact us at newegg@seasonicus.com Thank you.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent PSU, as always by Seasonic

This review is from: SeaSonic SSR-450RM 450W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: The power supply delivers, is all I can say with the pros. It remains quiet to boot.

Cons: None that I can think of. The flat cables might be a turn off to some for cable routing purposes.

Other Thoughts: I was taking a "gamble" with this power supply, in that I wanted to put my money where my mouth is. This is powering a system that's running a Core i5-4670K @ 4.0GHz and a GeForce GTX 670. Most PSU calculators and people would probably say something like get 600W PSU.

I said "let's go with this" for two reasons. 1. I always measured MUCH lower than I needed off the wall in my previous builds and 2. both the Steam Box prototype by Valve and the Mac Pro use a 450W PSU, despite being high-end machines. Well, plus it's a Seasonic.

And this power supply works like a champ. I say, you don't need to go 600W for a single card gaming rig.

5 out of 5 eggsSeasonic SSR-450RM

This review is from: SeaSonic SSR-450RM 450W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Good construction, with the use of Japanese caps. Semi-modular. Flat cables can take up less space if properly routed. Quiet. Transient filter stage includes an MOV. 5 year warranty.

Cons: Quibbles, really. 24 pin and 8 pin ATX cables relatively stiff, and not long enough to route behind the motherboard tray of my Cooler Master HAF 912 when the PSU is mounted with the fan facing up.

Other Thoughts: A good performing, well constructed PSU. Using it for a budget Core i3 build. Well worth the additional $$ for Seasonic's reputation and the 5 year warranty. I refuse to compromise on the PSU.

5 out of 5 eggsGood PSU for a Mini and ITX build

This review is from: SeaSonic SSR-450RM 450W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Good PSU for small builds, Powers my Intel 4770K and GTX 760 just fine. Very quite when not under loads. and the short cable give me plenty space inside of my ITX build

Cons: None unless you plan to use it for a full case, or plan on overclocking you processor and video card. At that point you need to look at a higher wattage unit

Other Thoughts: This is great for someone looking for a small build. If your looking to power anything higher than a 760, overclocking, or looking to install this in a full case, I would look else ware

5 out of 5 eggsQuality

This review is from: SeaSonic SSR-450RM 450W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Seasonic is the company that makes most of the better quality power supplies on the market, even if they are not under their name so it should make sense to go straight to the source (at least I think so). That said, I have been using Seasonic power supplies for a little over a year now since switching from another popular brand and I have been nothing but pleased. This model has adequate power output to cover a wide variety of usage, which is why I use this model so frequently at work and at home. I have installed them into cheesy little compaq computers and in 24/7 always online DVR's and so far they have performed perfectly.

Cons: I can't really think of any real cons for this thing....I guess the only "con" would be the cables. They look/feel a little "basic" or cheap if you will, compared to some other lower end modular cables. Let it be known though that I use these in lower end systems where I really don't care about aesthetics to begin with. Might be something to think about if you do though.

Other Thoughts: I installed this particular one that I bought on my own account in my personal pfsense box. The cheap no-name one that was installed in the old p4 box finally bit the dust after who knows how many years of service. While it lasted quite some time, it certainly used its fair share of wasted power in its lifetime because that thing would put out some heat. It ran so hot that it put out more heat than the Pentium 4 @ 3.8 GHZ that it was powering (if you remember the old netburst cpu's from Intel you know the kind of hot im talking about). After putting this Seasonic unit in, I can definitely tell the difference in the heat load on the room. It is noticeably cooler which can only be a plus since its that much less that I have to cool back down (live in Fl so heat is useless here :P). So if you need a good all around basic psu that is efficient, cool, and backed by a reputable name then this unit just might be what you are looking for.

1 out of 5 eggsPoor Assembly and

This review is from: SeaSonic SSR-450RM 450W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: It may work great when the fan doesn't make any noise sound and the blades doesn't hit anything.

Cons: The power supply started to make really noise sound as soon as I powered up the computer after installed. I notice that the sound came from blades because the blades hit wire and fan body. I manually separate them. Unfortunately, the blades started making the sound(hit the fan body) if I move the computer.

It is my first SeaSonic power supply and it may be my last one. I cannot believe that this product did passed the QA.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Zachary, Sorry for any inconvenience this issue has caused. All our units are thoroughly tested in our QA process but it is possible that during transport from our factory to the USA, there may have been something shaken and misaligned. We do our best to design and manufactuer our prodcuts to avoid such situaitons and we apologize for this inconvenience.

4 out of 5 eggsSSR-450RM

This review is from: SeaSonic SSR-450RM 450W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Quality Build
Moderately Quiet
Modular w/ 2 dedicated Sata connector cables

Cons: Stiff cables, but above average
Moderately Quiet

Other Thoughts: There are only a few gold rated modular 450w power supplies (ps). I own this and the Rosewill Capstone 450w.

The Capstone has a 135mm fan vs. the 120mm on this model. Both fans are moderately quiet. Moderately quiet means that I can here them, but they are not offensive. Neither, by far, are not the quietest PSs I've owned. With both, the noise is similar to a 120mm fan spinning just above 1,000 rpm. With 120mm case fans, 900rpm and below seems quiet to me.

The Seasonic modular ps cables are flat, which allows them to bend forward and back , but they are too stiff from side to side. This makes them difficult on a drive stack, 5.25 CD, 3.5 HD & 2.5 SSD, because excessive stress is put on flimsy Sata power connectors. Seasonic Sata cable plugs, L shaped, favor a bottom mounted power supply unlike the Capstone which favors an upper location. With the Capstone, ps at bottom, I had to run cables to the top of the case and then connect drives going down. Capstone cables are stiff in all directions, putting stress on wires (the ps cable wires) at the plug and plugs are too closely spaced. Also, too many plugs are Molex. What good is modular (the Capstone) if only 1.5 cables have Sata plugs? Yep, you get stuck with two molex plugs (the other .5) hanging in your case. Cables, while not perfect, are much better with the Seasonic. Two cables are dedicated to Sata connectors.

2 out of 5 eggsUpdated Review

This review is from: SeaSonic SSR-450RM 450W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: System powers on, and remains stable.

Cons: 3 weeks of intermittent use and it started making noise. I checked everything and nothing appeared wrong, so I put a cheap PSU I have as a spare it and the noise dropped by 70%. I then took a Seasonic Bronze 520 from another system that is a year old and put in. Totally quiet. Proves it was the Gold Seasonic making the diesel truck in-the-distance noise. It is being RMA back to Newegg -refund.

Other Thoughts: Just running on a no stress system with APU and SSD. I will not be ordering any more of these, although I'm very happy with the Bronze.

Manufacturer Response:

Dr. Ion, we are sorry about the inconvenience. The G series fan control is more conservative as compared to some other series due to the higher rated operating temperature and therefore the fan rotation may start up faster at a lower temperature.

5 out of 5 eggsFanstastic!

This review is from: SeaSonic SSR-450RM 450W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: 80+ Gold, almost totally modular, flat add on power cables and all this from a reputable company! Seasonic and one other company always get my business. Seasonic doesn't have a UL listing whereas the other does. UL certification is important to me, But seasonic has earned my respect due to the fact that my first ever psu bought for my first build was a seasonic 500w bronze ugly psu back in 2007.
That psu is powering my dad's phenom x3 rig with a 3870 to this day. Experience with this company is the only reason I will buy seasonic vs a UL listed maker. Seasonic has impressive creds, but I still love UL listed electronics, I'm sure seasonic could easily get one if they applied. Did I mention 5 year warranty?

Cons: None, came packaged nicely and in great shape.

Other Thoughts: I set out looking for a gold certified psu when I built an intel rig that serves up files for an office with 8 computers and some office equipment tied into the program. The owner insisted on intel and I did to for the raid config monitoring software. I power a 4430 haswell, using the chips video, two WD RE4 drives and a couple of fans and dvd thing. This psu made wire management a dream come true. I house it all in a coolmaster n200 case and besides the two hard wired main and cpu plug ins I only use the two sata lines and not a single cable is obstucting air flow! The case fan wires(3pin) are even hidden. This was on sale and very practical for the build. Only my second seasonic, first gold certified, and the spec's on this at around 50-60% power output is just fantastic! Seasonic is a major player when it comes to making other companies psu's, just research and you will find who makes who's psu's. That other company I like? They make a lot of others psu's also and they are FSP. Can't go wrong with these two companies! Granted anything bought through the mail is subject to DOA, but the egg will make good on it!! Always have for me! Just be sure you are SURE on your power requirements!
