Special Features

SeaSonic Power Supply

Ultra Tight Voltage Regulation
Improved load voltage regulation keeps the voltage fluctuations on the 12V output within +2% and 0% (no negative tolerance), and on the 3.3V and 5V outputs between +1% and -1%, which (under 80 PLUS load conditions) results in smooth and stable operation.

SeaSonic Power Supply

Seasonic Hybrid Silent Fan Control - S²FC & S³FC *
The industry first, advanced three-phased thermal control balances between silence and cooling. The Hybrid Silent Fan Control provides three operational stages: Fanless, Silent, and Cooling Mode. In addition, there is a switch provided to allow for manual selection between the Seasonic S²FC (fan control without Fanless Mode) and the S³FC (fan control including Fanless Mode).

SeaSonic Power Supply

Benefits:

  • Reduces noise without increasing temperature.
  • Extends fan life by eliminating unnecessary rotation.
  • Optimizes heat dissipation at all times.
  • Fanless Mode provides unsurpassed silent performance.

New Feature: Hysteresis is achieved by a fan control IC, which optimizes how frequently the fan switches on and off. At 25 °C ambient temperature the fan turns on when the load rises above 35% (± 5%) and it turns off when the load drops below 25% (± 5%). Due to this lag in response the fan switches on and off less frequently, which reduces power loss in Fanless and Silent Mode.

SeaSonic Power Supply

Dual Copper Bars
These pure copper bars conduct high current more efficiently to reduce impedance and minimize voltage drop.

5 out of 5 eggsBest Power Supply I've seen

Pros: Incredible detail to workmanship, packaging, included accessory stuff

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I run and electronics manufacturing company that produces specialized comms gear.

Bought this for my son for a Christmas present. I'm so impressed, I think I'll be buying Seasonic supplies from now on for everything I build.

5 out of 5 eggsRound 2 after RMA

Pros: Very efficient. Hybrid mode. Packaging, extras and looks. More than enough power for now and allows me to add whatever I feel like to the system. I did get it for a really good price with the mail in rebate.

Cons: Barely fit inside my Define R5 case - width wise. it is a rather long as well PSU and limits some options in the bottom of the case. Fan is a little louder than I would like, but depending on your environment it may not be noticeable.

Other Thoughts: I am writing a new review - see the previous. I contacted Seasonic because I couldn't believe the fan should be on constantly and at that high sound. Turns out it was a problem with the PSU. while I was a little disappointed with their follow up - I didn't know what the error was, but hey they sent it back so it's good. Anyway, got it installed. Works well and hybrid switch does work now. Fan I don't think comes on with my current draw. When I switch to normal mode I can hear it, even in a case designed for sound reduction. I have the fan side down. If this were set on the floor or further away I probably wouldn't notice it, but since I have it on my desk to stay away from pet dander / dust I can hear it. Not a deal breaker, but not sure I have the "one." it's not really fair to call this a con, but it is pretty big and there's no way I can install the Fractal Design water cooler in the bottom as I can't have a PSU longer than 165mm. Anyway, Seasonic did fix in my RMA so I am looking for a 4.5 egg rating since there isn't one I'd go with 5. It's not their fault if I'm picking on it for not being exactly perfect for my set up. I purchased this item for the price, reputation and because it gives me no restrictions in the future and this item still satisfies those.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you very much for your review and should you have any further issues, please contact us at any time. Sorry for any inconvenience this has caused and thanks again for your patience and understanding.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid performance

Pros: Johnny Guru rated this 9.8 / 10 score in June 2014. He would've given the Value rating a 10 instead of a 9 if the unit was selling for $30-40 under its normal three hundred price tag. Newegg was selling this for the price of the 860 platinum when I was shopping for a beefier unit. No-brainer to select this unit. I've got one of the better PSUs on the planet & 1200 watts of it for nearly half price brand new.

Cons: I have to turn it upside down inside my CM 690 II Advanced which then means I have to plug cables in upside down? There's nothing wrong with this device. I feel like I stole it.

Other Thoughts: I was using 500 watts of my 5 year old Seasonic 520 watt PSU and wanting to upgrade the 6850 GPU to the MSI Lightning R9290x. Now I could get two of those monsters and still have 20% overhead! All of these cables are the perfect length for this mid tower, and I'll move this unit over to a Phanteks Luxe chassis in a month - with no extensions necessary.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat if I can get it to work

Pros: Wonderful for the 170$ i payed for it

Cons: Ever since i hooked it up. Every now and then my computer will shut off and flicker on and off continously untill I unplug it. Assuming its a problem with the PSU. Anyone who can help please contact me ASAP.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Nicole, This applies to your double post. If your system shuts off and then flickers on and off continuously, then most likely this is a MB issue and not the power supply. It is possible your MB is failing or you may have a short circuit somewhere in the system that is causing the reboot or causing a protection circuit to kick in. Please write to us at newegg@seasonicus.com and please let us know more about your situation. At the same time, you may wish to contact your MB company for possible remedy. Thank you.

2 out of 5 eggsVery good if i can get it to work properly

Pros: Got it for 170$ on sale. For the price this thing is a beast.

Cons: It worked wonderfully for about 2 weeks. Then one day my PC shut down and was flickering off and on every 5 seconds. I unplugged it and made sure everything was connected properly again, and it did it again a little while later. Iv'e checked my temps, "in case of throttling" and never went above 60 when it happened. So my only thought is that it is the PSU. Going to have a friend bring over his PSU to see if it is the problem. I hope its not, don't feel like dealing with RMA.

Other Thoughts: If anyone knows how to fix this please let me know.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat PSU

Pros: -1200 Watts
-80 Platinum
-Special deal of: $169.99

I've had mine for about a month and so far it runs great. Did I need 1200? Not really with only a single 970GTX, but was so cheap on deal when I bought it, couldn't resist. Seems like there may be some quality control problems from other reviews but I've had 0 problems so far.

Cons: Would be nice to have 6 pin power cords, as the extra 8 pins kind of hang out and make the video card cable look little messy.

Other Thoughts: Great way to future proof your computer, maybe down the road I might SLI so it was a nice investment for the future.

Has some eco power mode switch, might be useful or wanted for some but I keep mine full throttle all the time.

1 out of 5 eggsWorked Fine For The First Hour

Pros: Super quiet and the modular cabling is nice. Came nicely packaged.

Cons: Quit after 1 hour of use. I was really happy initially with it and was doing great until it started making bubbling/fizzing nosies along with a burning smell of the electrolyte which is the tell tale sign of a capacitor getting ready to blow. Fortunately with it being so quiet I was able to hear this so I immediately turned it off since I didn't want to wait to see what happened next. I would have never heard it if it had a fan like PC Power & Cooling PSU.

Other Thoughts: I decided to upgrade from a PC Power & Cooling Turbo-Cool 1200W that I have had for quite a few years and has served me very well. But I really wanted to change to something a little quieter that didn't sound like a jet turbine.

System:
i7 4970k, Asus Maximus VII z97 Hero, G.Skill Trident X 2400, EVGA GTX 770, Crucial 240GB SSD, 1 TB WD Raptor, 2 x Pioneer Bluray burners

Manufacturer Response:

HI Robert, I am sorry for the trouble and I hope you have successfully done the RMA for your product. Please write to us at newegg@seasonicus.com and I hope we can rectify the issue for you. Thank You.

1 out of 5 eggsPOP

Pros: EXCELLENT name and price from the Egg

Cons: After removing a failing 1050watt PS that wouldn't drive my Xfire R9 290's I rewired my system with new cables as the others weren't compatible across the board. Made sure everything was correct, used the heavier Seasonic power cord plugged directly into the wall like recommended set to hybrid flipped the power on switch waited a few secs and pressed the power button on my 750D and POP like a .22 in closed room. It didn't blow the circuit breaker on my wall socket since everything on the other side of plug was still on. I just hope it didn't smoke my board.

Other Thoughts: NEVER had a issue like this in the past 20 years of gaming rig builds I've done with lesser "quality" power supplies. Maybe I was just lucky until today, dunno.

Now I have to wait to hear back and hope I get a good unit.
Frustrated? Ya think? Disappointed for sure!

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Michael,
We are sorry to read of your experience. Is the unit currently in RMA process at NewEgg? Please note, the Platinum 1200 has all the necessary protection features to protect your system from harm. If there is anything we can do for you, please let us know at newegg@seasonicus.com Thank You.

3 out of 5 eggsToo Loud For Me

Pros: Excellent materials. Nice goodies inside. Good looks. High Power and Efficiency for the price I paid

Cons: Noise, Noise, Noise - Hybrid Mode on this fan apparently is non existent. Regardless of what position the switch is in, the fan is on. When I swap back to my AX 760 Corsair PSU that unit is totally silent. Same hardware and game in use. Take 2 eggs away just for that. If you're in a loud environment or don't care then grab it.

Other Thoughts: I reallly wanted this to work. I read some reviews that said it was a little loud, but I bought it anyway hoping it wouldn't be that big of a deal. But the fan constantly on drove me crazy. If I'm gaming with headset on, during low sound points in the game I can hear the fan. If i'm web surfing late at night and no games, its very loud. Made me sad because I really wanted to own a Seasonic Product because of all the great reviews and their legendary quality. I am giving up my AX 760 to my son's PC and went back today and ordered the AX 860. Hopefully this will be enough power down the road when I upgrade to 2 graphics cards.

Manufacturer Response:

hi Ezra, Is the PSU fan control properly set to Hybrid Mode? In this mode, the fan should not be spinning at idle or low loads. If the fan is spinning, then please let us know and we will start a RMA process for you so we can do some testing on the unit for you. Please write to us at newegg@seasonicus.com Thank you.
