4 out of 5 eggsEasy Replacement

This review is from: RAIDMAX RX-450K Continuous 450 watts ATX 12V v2.3/EPS 12V Power Supply

Pros: So far it is doing the job it was intended for. Nothing special, just a minor upgrade to an older lower wattage unit.

Cons: I ordered this one partially on one requirement, the vertically mounted plug socket. The item I received was horizontal which my Dell Optiflex case doesn't like, but was still able to install and use. Oh well..., can't have everything.

Other Thoughts: Note to installers: Some "older" boards use a 4-pin plug on them, this item ships with an 8-pin that you simply split and use half. There are no distinctions as to which half will be the one you should use and look the same, with the same wiring colors. If the system does not fire up completely, try the other half.

This review is from: RAIDMAX RX-450K Continuous 450 watts ATX 12V v2.3/EPS 12V Power Supply

Pros: Cheap , Quiet.

Cons: Lasted one year, had to pay for shipping to get a replacement. (15$)Replacement died in 2 months, Not going to spend more money on a 25 dollar PSU :( Will never buy from Raidmax again.

Other Thoughts: I really didn't use the power supply to hard, no optical drive 1 HDD and integrated graphics.

4 out of 5 eggsWorked out of the box.

This review is from: RAIDMAX RX-450K Continuous 450 watts ATX 12V v2.3/EPS 12V Power Supply

Pros: Works, not hot, not noisy, price, cables are long enough and the fit is tight. All voltages are in range.

Cons: None really, but since it is a really light weight PSU, I will not draw over 300 watts out of it and expect it to hold.

Other Thoughts: Working perfect with an AMD A10-6800K, Intel 520 series SSD, ASUS DVD drive and 8GB G-skill 2133Mhz memory.

4 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: RAIDMAX RX-450K Continuous 450 watts ATX 12V v2.3/EPS 12V Power Supply

Pros: Brand name. Price. Good amperage rating on the +12 rail.

Works perfectly.

Cons: Not the product pictured on the website. Does NOT have 2 80MM ball-bearing fans. Has a single 120MM fan (not ball bearing) on the bottom. Took off 1 egg because of this. Customer service said this may be error provided by manufacturer, but still advertising one product and shipping another.

Other Thoughts: I called customer service and they were helpful and apologetic; one of the reasons I chose this PS was I likes the dual ball bearing fans. They offered to RMA at their cost, but it really was not worth the delay to me so they refunded my purchase cost. Proving once again they are the best company to buy from, their customer service goes out of it's way to make you a happy shopper.

5 out of 5 eggsDoes job it was meant to do, replacing seven year old PS in Dell Dimension E510

This review is from: RAIDMAX RX-450K Continuous 450 watts ATX 12V v2.3/EPS 12V Power Supply

Pros: Cost. Only $25 (before any rebates) and free shipping about as low as it gets for a 450W power supply.

Got this to replace a long-dying (but not dead) 305W power supply in a Dell Dimension E510 that was originally bought by its original user in late 2006 that was taking longer and longer to boot up. This power supply fixed that and seems to have that old machine (Pentium D 805, 2.66 GHz with 4GB DDR2 Ram running at 533MHz with two DVD+RW drives and a card reader plus an SSD) actually running a bit faster than with the old PS. The amps on the +5V Rail (Molex) are only two less (20A as opposed to 22A on the older Dell PS that was built when SATA was still relatively new), but the amps on the +12V Rail (SATA) are double that of the old Dell PS (32A as opposed to 16A).

Cons: Did have to get a SATA-To-Molex converter so I could connect both DVD drives (older IDE models) to it due to where the DVD+RW drives are placed and the way the wires are laid out. Not really a con, especially given what this was specifically purchased for and given this was replacing a proprietary PS whose PS was specifically done for the Dell E510, so no eggs off for that.

Also note that the version of this I have has only 2x Molex but 3x SATA and also only a 4-Pin Power Connector and not the 8-Pin needed for many newer MBs.

Other Thoughts: Please note that the newer versions of this power supply come with a 120MM fan, not really a negative at all given those fans and not the dual 80MM fans in the original version (pictured) as the 120MM fan and larger are standard now (the dual 80MM fans version pictured in this according to the Raidmax site had 28A on the +3.3V Rail and 34A on the +5V Rail as opposed to the 20A this version has and only 21A on the +12V Rail as opposed to the 32A this version has). The newer version of this (version also seems to be meant for bottom-mounted cases based on the placement of the molex wires at the end of each wire.

Given this PS was purchased to specifically replace a seven-year old (used six years) power supply in an OEM machine, it's doing the exact job it was meant to do. Not sure if this is best for new builds unless you are on a budget, but it certainly will do the job it is set out to do if you use it properly, especially if replacing a much older power supply.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks Great, service not so much

This review is from: RAIDMAX RX-450K Continuous 450 watts ATX 12V v2.3/EPS 12V Power Supply

Pros: Good, but not the best price, works great out of the box.

Cons: Iron egg guarantee is worthless

Other Thoughts: I submitted a price match under the iron egg guarantee. I was told I would receive through email a credit to be used in a future newegg purchase. Of course, I never received this "credit", and my emails to newegg have gone unanswered. Do yourself a favor and buy the item elsewhere where it is cheaper anyway. We will see if I ever get the rebate.
