3 out of 5 eggsLOUD

This review is from: RAIDMAX HYBRID 2 RX-630SS 630W ATX12V V2.2/ EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Modular Power Supply, New Version with Build-in LED Fan On/Off Switch

Pros: Good modular design. Awesome blue light with independent switch, well balanced power.

Cons: LOUD. I can hear my computer on from the next room! Could use a few more connection options but works well for the "Build Your Own" bundle with which it was purchased.

Other Thoughts: I actually got this PSU as part of one of the Newegg "Build Your Own" bundle deals. I forget at this point what it was called specifically but it had to do with the fact that everything was blue.

The first thing I noticed as I put the build together is that the position of the PSU is integral to the view-ability of the light. Top mounting is superior for this aspect.

I have owned modular PSUs in the past and while the connection options worked well for the build that this one was sold with, it does not leave much room to customize beyond that. Bear in mind that I have 1 SSD, 2 HDDs, 4 fans with lights, a DVD drive, and the MOBO connections.

The most prominent thing I have noticed in my use of this build is the fact that the PSU is LOUD! My computer used to be in my room. I would sometimes leave my previous build on overnight if I had a major project I was working on for my programming courses. Doing that with this build would keep me up all night with the sound. Now my computer is in the living room of my 1 bedroom apartment and I can STILL hear it at night if it happens to be on when I start to pass out.

This review is from: RAIDMAX HYBRID 2 RX-630SS 630W ATX12V V2.2/ EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Modular Power Supply, New Version with Build-in LED Fan On/Off Switch

Pros: Easy cable management and initially worked with no problem.

Cons: Over 8 months of using no problem till one morning it just doesn't want to work anymore. No sparks or anything dramatic, just wouldn't power on.

Other Thoughts: I did some basic tests to see if it worked and got nothing out of it. Seems like a common problem.... really wishing I read more of the reviews before purchase :(

5 out of 5 eggsOutstanding machine

This review is from: RAIDMAX HYBRID 2 RX-630SS 630W ATX12V V2.2/ EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Modular Power Supply, New Version with Build-in LED Fan On/Off Switch

Pros: I owned this little monster for almost 7 years, during which time it ran continuously at almost full capacity on what was a mid-range gaming computer in 2008. It never gave me a bit of trouble, and the cords made organization and customization a breeze. The fan was quiet and even the lights ran up until the end. What else can you want from a PSU? It did everything it needed to do.

Cons: There's no way to toggle the LEDs on and off.

Other Thoughts: Still a great piece of equipment for most basic computers. If you aren't doing high end gaming, streaming or media editing and you don't have more than 5 drives to plug in, this thing is a beast.

4 out of 5 eggsAnother Review

This review is from: RAIDMAX HYBRID 2 RX-630SS 630W ATX12V V2.2/ EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Modular Power Supply, New Version with Build-in LED Fan On/Off Switch

Pros: Does it's job and has a nice blue LED fan.

Cons: It's very sensitive to any type of power disruption.

Other Thoughts: I posted a review before of replacing this unit because of reviews claiming that this PSU fails after 6 months. I've had it for almost a year and the ONLY issue is whenever I even have a extremely minor power surge my PC shuts off from it. I guess I can say this Power Supply is falsely rated for 630W since I run hardware that needs at least a 400W power supply, which explains why it's been working well. I guess all and all, get this if you need something around 400 to 450W in power if you want it to last.

Pros: Still works. Never received the manufacturer rebate but Newegg's epic customer service resolved that for me.

Cons: Rebate complications eventually sorted out.

2 out of 5 eggsGrumble Grumble

This review is from: RAIDMAX HYBRID 2 RX-630SS 630W ATX12V V2.2/ EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Modular Power Supply, New Version with Build-in LED Fan On/Off Switch

Pros: I will say that my experience with this PSU was pretty good while it lasted: it lit up and looked nice and provided adequate power under I heard the rattling and noticed the busted fan blade. I'm sure it will do the trick if you're building a budget or entry level PC or need a quick but flashy stand-in. However, after my RMA experience, I'm a bit sour on it personally, and figured I'd give a little buyer beware.

Cons: If this unit arrives faulty - and with roughly one in five reviews giving it the lowest rating possible, that is a high probability - you're going to be in for a bit of a headache, as in my experience, the cost to RMA the unit was much more than I'd spent on it! Not wanting be to be in nearly 200$ (which could have gotten me a blingy 850 plus watt, high certified full modular PSU from a reputable OEM) to be rid of the headache, my glitchy Raidmax hit the garbage bin. Raidmax keeps my money and I play a sad little song for the eighty or so bucks that could've got me a bunch of cool Steam games or another 120GB SSD or something.

Other Thoughts: As I said earlier, I'm sure a working RX-630SS would be fine for many people's needs! But it bears mentioning that, first off, not many appear to be arriving in working order, and secondly, if you're one of the ones who doesn't win out, you may as well take the money you spent (and thusly the hours you worked to earn it!) and toss them in the trash.

I know the intent of Newegg reviews is to be unbiased, and provide a fair insight about the item itself - yet my negative review is neither of those things. That said, I think it's a fair and constructive criticism of the purchase on offer here. Hopefully this spurs Raidmax to shoot for some higher quality.

This review is from: RAIDMAX HYBRID 2 RX-630SS 630W ATX12V V2.2/ EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Modular Power Supply, New Version with Build-in LED Fan On/Off Switch

Pros: led.not expensive.

Cons: Part of me knew I was taking a gamble when I saw about 25% of the reviews were one star. Used it for a day before my pc started having power issues. You could hear it making a weird noise and when I looked inside I could see a majority of the parts have this cheap plastic that had melted in them. One day at about 350w. Rest of my components stayed between 30-40C, Save your time and get a better PSU.

5 out of 5 eggsRaidmax HYBRID

This review is from: RAIDMAX HYBRID 2 RX-630SS 630W ATX12V V2.2/ EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Modular Power Supply, New Version with Build-in LED Fan On/Off Switch

Pros: It does it's job very well in my current system.
The LED is pretty cool.
Modular is cool, even though for my next one I'm going full modular.
Definitely performs better than expected.
Stays cool and quiet.

Cons: The blue LED doesn't match my cases blue LEDs lol. Not a dealbreaker, but the blue was part of the reason I got it.
Not 80+ certified, I'm worried it may not perform in a more taxing system than my current one.
Not full modular.
None of these cons make it bad by any means I just don't know how it'd act in a better setup than an i5, Radeon 6870 system.
