5 out of 5 eggs6 years and counting

This review is from: Thermaltake TR2 W0070 430W ATX12V v2.3 Power Supply

Pros: Been running 24/7 for the past 6 years and still running our low powered server without a hiccup.

Cons: None after 6 years of continuous use.

Other Thoughts: I keep putting off that I should eventually need it to be replaced as I don't want it to take out our server rig when it dies but it just keeps on ticking so I became a procrastinator cause of it.

1 out of 5 eggsComplete Garbage

This review is from: Thermaltake TR2 W0070 430W ATX12V v2.3 Power Supply

Pros: Looks great and appears quality but is nearly DOA!

Cons: Random reboots after about a week! I seriously doubt that this PSU actually comes close to 430! I had to re-format after all the cold shut-downs that this PSU caused! Running an old 320 watt PSU from years ago now and not having any issues!

Other Thoughts: Would RMA this dog but the hassle of shipping it is hardly worth the trouble! Thermaltake has provided me with several great and inexpensive PSU's in the past but this one was total junk!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,
We always strive to ensure all customers are happy with their purchase and hope for the opportunity to change your negative experience. Please contact Customer Service so we can replace the PSU as it should provide consistent power.

5 out of 5 eggsSuper solid PSU for me

This review is from: Thermaltake TR2 W0070 430W ATX12V v2.3 Power Supply

Pros: Had this PSU since 2009 and running basically 24/7 on a couple of different machines. Only upgrading it now because I need one that supports a more powerful video card in my new build.

Cons: None for me, worked flawlessly for 5 years.

Other Thoughts: I'd buy it again if I needed a similar wattage PSU.

5 out of 5 eggsLong Lasting

This review is from: Thermaltake TR2 W0070 430W ATX12V v2.3 Power Supply

Pros: I've had it for about 3 years and its still going strong. It is kind of weak in comparison to the rest, but its stable and doesn't have any problems.

Cons: 430w might be a little low for high end gaming.

1 out of 5 eggsThis is not a 430 watt power supply.

This review is from: Thermaltake TR2 W0070 430W ATX12V v2.3 Power Supply

Pros: This same power supply is also known as the Purepower 430 and the XP550. While it is designed with many safety features, it is actually a 350 watt power supply.

Cons: I purchased this power supply for a computer I built for a client that required a 400 watt power supply. After running the computer for a test period I noticed the smell of cooked metal and ozone due to the unit running at peak capacity at idle (meaning that gaming would have destroyed the unit).

I researched the unit and found that it has been analyzed by an engineer online who found that it was a re-badged 350 watt power supply with some safety features to prevent the unit from catching on fire.

This power supply is in no way, shape, or form capable of delivery 430 watts. Although Thermaltake is normally one of the more reputable manufacturers, in this case they have done a disservice to their customers.

Had I not stopped to investigate I could have destroyed the entire computer I built for the customer.

Other Thoughts: Don't buy this unless you only need a basic 250 to 300 watt power supply for a system with on-board video and no real demands on power.

2 out of 5 eggsFrustrated

This review is from: Thermaltake TR2 W0070 430W ATX12V v2.3 Power Supply

Pros: Its a solid power supply

Cons: They sold a model before with the same model number, however the plugs were different. There used to be more 4 pin connections. I was very dissapointed to order a second one as a replacement to find out there was less 4 pin connections. They should change the model number if they change the design .

Other Thoughts: I realize now that I should have double checked, but come on. Dont change the design and use the same model number.

1 out of 5 eggsThermaltake does NOT honor their warranty!

This review is from: Thermaltake TR2 W0070 430W ATX12V v2.3 Power Supply

Pros: Worked, for a little while…

Cons: When I returned my power supply for an RMA, they did not honor it because I didn't have the original receipt in the box. This wasn't mentioned as a requirement in their RMA instructions, nor was it in the RMA confirmation e-mail they sent after approving the RMA. I assumed that because the warranty was 5 years, and they KNOW they haven't even been building this model that long, that they would honor it. NOPE. Not only did I pay to ship it to them, but I had to wait to get it back to try the process again. Thermaltake has already wasted enough of my time. I'm not going to waste even more time and money trying ANOTHER RMA. I strung up the power supply like a hangman as a warning to all of my 500+ customers to never purchase Thermaltake products or they too might be left high and dry.

Other Thoughts: I also sent out an e-mail to my 500+ customers explaining the issues with Thermaltake and asking them to boycott all Thermaltake products and return anything they might have purchased recently. A quick search online will show that hundreds of customers have gone through similar issues with junk Thermaltake power supplies and equal Nightmares for the RMA process.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,
When you register an RMA, it is outlined under the eRMA service agreement that a copy of the sales receipts needs to be included with the defective product. Additionally, e-mails are sent to customers if a defective product is received without a receipt unless the RMA number is not clearly noted. In that case, we would not know the contact information associated with the defective product and the only course of action would be to return the defective product. Regardless of the circumstance, we do apologize about the inconvenience and ask you to please contact Customer Service so we can ensure your defective PSU is replaced.
