OverviewCustomer ReviewSpecificationsProduct Tour
The Thermaltake Toughpower 1200W W0156RU is a high-end power supply unit ideal for advanced users who demand greater cooling and higher power for their systems. The Active Power Factor Corrector (Active PFC) helps the unit to deliver a stable 1200 Watts of continuous output with up to 87% efficiency. Four independent and dedicated +12V rails (12V1, 12V2, 12V3, 12V4) enhance power distribution and provide superior performance for your PC.

The Toughpower W0156RU is compatible with dual core CPU, quad core CPU, NVIDIA SLI, Quad SLI and ATI CrossFire technologies, with three 6-pin and three 8-pin (downward compatible with 6-pin PCI-E connectors) PCI-E connectors that allow connectivity to multiple graphic cards. The 14 cm ball-bearing fan that reduces hot spots, offers excellent, quiet cooling.

In addition, the Toughpower W0156RU utilizes industrial grade components with Independent Voltage Circuits for stable and unflappable output, and protection against potential voltage surges. A MTBF of more than 120,000 hours shows extreme reliability, and it's virtually immune to over voltage, over current, and potential short-circuits.

WOW!!!

white Reviewed By: MR. Happy Customer on 12/26/2007

Tech Level Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 week to 1 month
Pros: Ok, first off, very clean, pure, unvarying power. I mean, if you put a ton of power on one rail and barely any on another, it would still deliver all the right voltages and so on. (I accidentally did this for 1 day before realizing it. Yes I have a tester and I used it.) It powers my 6 light up case fans, 5 hard drives, cpu fan, 3 hd 3850 graphics cards, 3 dvd drives, and 4 case lights with EASE. It's wonderful. And did I mention, this is a tiny power supply. It is no longer or wider or anything than a normal 250 watt psu believe it or not. I love the nice paint job on it, and the Thermaltake metal logo stickers. It comes with 6 pin adapters and an eight pin to six pin converter I think it was. Anyway, plenty of connections for 6 pin or 8 pin graphics cards. wonderful. Comes with a little rubber/plastic squishy vibration damner which I used. It wasn't exactly cut out perfectly since the screw holes kind of didn't line up with the dampner slots so I had to cut it a tiny bit.
Cons: I wish there was a logo on both sides so if I set it upside down I could still have a logo on the other side to see. (My case can hold two psu's and I used the optional psu area.) The rail labeling was a tiny bit confusing (which is what confused me above^) but I figured it out after a second look. Read it a couple times.
Other Thoughts: Well, it's good. By the way, I have to say about Newegg, their order processing and so on is absolutely perfected, I mean it beats the current disaster I'm having with another store and a hold situation on my credit card and so on. Newegg cleared up problems the second I fixed them within seconds. (I use those credit gift card things so there was a small address/name consistency issue.)

Pros: All the power you could ever want or need. Runs very efficient and clean. Will not damage your valuable system component over time.
Cons: May not fit all chassis.
Other Thoughts: I hope the price comes down so that other people can enjoy this type of quality.

Love this psu

white Reviewed By: on 2/1/2009

Tech Level Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
Pros: 1200w of pure power. It delivers power to all my rails without much in the way of power loss. Extremely efficient. Should have bought this thing a long time ago, instead of using that Coolmacks BullSpit.
Cons: I didnt see any more than 3 PCI-E cables for video card output. I have to use 2 for my GTX 260 216's to get them to work, and I have 2 of them. Kind of hard to get power to the other one if I cant power it up enough...
Other Thoughts: I dont like Newegg shipping. Takes 5 days for your order to show up regardless of how you have it delivered, and takes up to a month to get an RMA back if you have defective stuff. Stick to your neighborhood retailers. What you pay for in taxes is less than S&H in most cases...and its 5 days faster!

Two Units, Both Problematic / Dead

white Reviewed By: Dresk on 6/15/2008
Rating + 1
Tech Level Tech Level: somewhat high - Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
Pros: Modular cables. 8-pin PCI-E connector. Seems to stay cool enough.
Cons: Initial unit from Newegg died after 6 days of usage. On day 2 it began giving me issues powering on my computer. Tried different UPS, different cables, different computer, no go. RMAd to Thermaltake. Replacement lasted 11 days before it started doing the same thing. Computer has issues powering on and system stability is potentially affected.
Other Thoughts: I'm not an electrician, but I've tried many configurations with this PSU (and an RMAd one fresh from Thermaltake) and it always went down hill after a small period of time. Thermaltake's customer service was very poor, initially providing me with the laundry list of checks, instead of actually reading my e-mail. I have the suspicion that not many people are purchasing this so the extent of its issues is largely unknown.
