5 out of 5 eggsWorks as advertised!

Pros: Solid construction. All USB ports work and the HDD dock has worked with every SATA drive I've plugged in.

Cons: Comes with very short USB A-B and power cables.

Other Thoughts: When using this, you have to be sure you properly remove USB connections using your OS interface before you unplug them from the dock. I've made the mistake of just yanking the HDD on one occasion and had to rebuild my file tables.

4 out of 5 eggsWD Caviar Grn WD10EARS will not fit

Pros: Great external drive connection. Swapping a drive is as easy as it can be. Have had no issues with drives except.....

Cons: The Western Digital Caviar Green 1TB drive that I received would not physically connect to the SATA connections. The SATA connectors on the drive were about an eighth of an inch out of place. I'm not sure if this is consistent with this specific drive. All other WD drives have worked great in this thing.

Other Thoughts: None

5 out of 5 eggsHandier Then I Could Imagine

Pros: Hot swap a terabyte drive like its a flash drive. Wow!

Cons: It tries to autoexecute everytime I put a drive online. No big deal. Just close the window.

Other Thoughts: The minute I saw this featured, I knew I'd love it. I skipped the jazz drives and tape backups and just saved to extra hard drives. Now I use this product and can't imagine going back to working without it.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Reader

Pros: reads drives excellent. haven't had any real issues with it. most issues occur from trying to use the wrong OS to read certain data with. win 7 and Linux seem to read drives the easiest. Has worked like a champ since I got it.

Cons: only con is not being able to read IDE drives, but I saw that going in.

Other Thoughts: This is the second one of these that I have bought from new egg. When I got my first one had some issues trying to do some data recovery and windows xp wouldn't recognize the data. tried the box on linux and win 7 and it worked. ThermalTake tech support had pushed me in the right direction, haven't gone wrong with any of their products so far.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Very easy to use and works well for SATA hard drives, both 2.5" and 3.5".

Cons: I would be thrilled if they could just build the bloody power adapter into the base of this thing. Instead, I get a brick that sits directly on the socket. Not very convenient.

1 out of 5 eggsGood Idea, but...

Pros: Well built. Sleek Design.

Cons: Incompatible with Western Digital 1TB Caviar Green SATA... take note!!!

Other Thoughts: I bought this hoping it would save the power problems on my year-old 1TB MyBook. However, whenever I turned the power on, I heard a hum from the outlet (as if a fuse was about to blow), so I turned it off. Through online forums, I discovered that the issue involved the SATA drive's compatibility. Ultimately, it's a Western Digital issue and not Thermaltake's... still, I only own WD drives so I had to give this enclosure a low ranking. I returned it and am awaiting a refund.

Manufacturer Response:

Crumbs,
This unit has no compatibility issues with any WD SATA hard drive. We use numerous drives of all sizez up to 2TB from WD without issue. Please contact ttsupport@thermaltakeusa.com for more information and help with this unit.

5 out of 5 eggsMy rig is 500 miles away, at least i have my hard drives

Pros: Nice to have a slightly cheaper alternative for those who do not need connections other than USB, plugs are firm, base sticks to table and doesn't slide around, base doesn't get hot

Cons: none that I have seen so far

Other Thoughts: Would be nice to have some way to cool off hard drives. They get a lot more air in a case than they do in this holder. Other thing is the hard drive is vertical instead of horizontal probably not great for the drive.

4 out of 5 eggsJust what I was looking for

Pros: Very clean cut design, just as simple as I was wanting.

Cons: one small flaw that just barely flipped it into a 4 for me, though this wont really matter at all to most others, since my case is full of other HD, I stuck my last 2TB in here. I use MediaCenter from my 360 ALOT. Since this setup has a auto spooldown energy saver function built onto the board, the share into the MediaCenter doesnt stay. This causes me to have to re-add all the files each time I need somethign off of it from the 360. Minor flaw, and most would be mounting the drive with a SATA and mounted in the case itself. Not a real big thing, just a preference really. Havent found a way to disable the spooldown.

Other Thoughts: Regardless of the 1 con I had, I will definitely buy another as I may need it.

Manufacturer Response:

Niftyapple,
Please contact ttsupport@thermaltakeusa.com as there is no spooldown or spindown function on this unit.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA - RMA'd for refund

Pros: Looks nice and was well packaged.

Cons: Doesn't work. There appears to be an issue with the docking station telling the HD to shutdown early. Tried to make this work on several OS's - XP, Vista 32, Win 7 64 - and the results were the same on all - Driver load, says HD needs formated and then the HD shuts down as if power is cut to it which won't allow the format to complete. Tried six different SATA HDs with the same results.

Other Thoughts: RMA'd and returned for a refund. Not rolling the dice on this product again.

3 out of 5 eggsWorks. Gets a lil' hot. Viberates.

Pros: This thing is great. It allowed me to take a 750GB storage drive from my desktop back home, and use it with my laptop here in my college dorm.

Cons: It overheats the drive. Not to a point where it does not work, but I have a fan blowing on it just in case. Physically touching the drive while in operation is not a pleasant experience.

Just recently I noticed that the hard drive was producing a very rapid clicking noise. I thought my drive was about to go out due to the "clicking noise", but it was just because the drive wasn't snug enough in the casing (even though it still showed up on laptop), and the thing was vibrating against the plastic.

Other Thoughts: I would try to find another casing with a fan included. I went for the price, and for what I paid it is acceptable.

5 out of 5 eggsFoolproof

Pros: Worked like a champ with Windows 7 notebook
Easy to use - connect via USB cable, plug it in, insert drive, hit the power button & you're set!
Solid construction, compact size.
Includes USB cable & AC adapter - ready to go out of box.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Purchased when desktop motherboard died. Needed to access data on the hard drive from new laptop. Worth more than the price paid to have access to data (which had not been recently backed up), plus now have drive for external backup (which I promise tol do!)

1 out of 5 eggsCompatibility Issues

Pros: Cheap on shell shocker, works with some drives.

Cons: Doesn't work with my new Hitachi drives, which is why I bought it. Exchanged with TT already, but same issue. Support says there are no incompatibilities. No real resolution.

Other Thoughts: Seems to be hit or miss on drive compatibility -- probably the last TT product I will buy (due to the support more than the product itself).

4 out of 5 eggsworks fine

Pros: Cheap. Does exactly what's advertised to do. Great for backing and accessing laptop/standard hard drives. Used on Ubuntu + Windows XP/Vista/7 and it works just fine. Unformatted drives might not be mounted to folder on Ubuntu but you can still access/format them using gparted tool.

Cons: Eject mechanism requires too much force. Whole method of ejecting seems stupid when you can just pull it out easily by hand.

With even the slightest amount of pressure, you can push the light on the top into the chasis. I did, but it doesn't break anything. It just weird.

USB 2.0 is fast, but when you're transferring a large music collection, it's not fast enough. If you can get something like this with eSATA, THEN DO IT! The cost difference is worth it in hindsight.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Well

Pros: Makes it very easy to connect an SATA drive (notebook or desktop) to any PC via the USB port. No fumbling with connectors, just pop the drive in. Holds the drive securely, in fact you must press the release to remove the drive.

Cons: No eSATA - but that is plain in the specs, so no penalty. Just a wish.

5 out of 5 eggsNice device

Pros: Very Usable Item. Plug and play with windows 7, Pwr button on device for quick disconnect. Have not found a sata drive it wont recognize. Very fast connection when using sata 2 (3gbs). About 18 to 24 Mbps using Sata 1.Surprised at the quality too. well built, simple and straightforward.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Haven't tried with the new Sata 3 (6gbs) or any SAS or High Speed Raptor Drives. It has Its own Pwr supply so should be fine on a Pwr hungry Drive like the 10k RPM Raptor. As always...NEWEGG Rocks.......All over your Face!

1 out of 5 eggsWill not recognize ANY drive

Pros: Has potential; if it worked.

Cons: Have attempted to use this on 3 different Computers with 4 separate SATA drives [(3) 3.5" and (1) 2.5"]. The computers recognize the dock as a drive, but gives the error "please insert disk into drive." The drives are spooling up, but are not being read.

5 out of 5 eggsLove it

Pros: Very handy. Nice design. Doesn't look nearly as crazy as I thought it would on my desk. Keeps drive very cool since it is 3/4ths exposed to room air. I like the fact it has a power button (other external manf. should take note). Beats the living heck outta opening my case to test a drive and looks better than my old cable adapter for doing SATA to USB.

Cons: So far none. Works as advertised.

Other Thoughts: I can't believe how inexpensive this thing was (grabbed on SS for <20$).
I wish they would make one of these with eSATA so I could just buy a half dozen of them and get rid of my old my book enclosures.

4 out of 5 eggsworks with some tinkering

Pros: works as it should. plug in power & usb, put sata drive in it, power it on. able to format drives with ease etc. works on my windows 7 machine.

Cons: in my case, i threw in a preformatted dynamic sata drive with files on it already and it showed up as an 'invalid' drive in windows disk management. considering that it showed up fine when previously hooked up directly to the pc via sata cable, i would assume there was some incompatability with the format on it and this docking station. i had to rehook the drive via sata, then transfer the files to another drive, then placed the drive back in the docking station and reformatted it and ONLY THEN did it work as it should. kind of a pain in the keister!!!!

Other Thoughts: other than the invalid drive hickup when throwing in preformatted dynamic disks, it works really well.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks as advertised

Pros: Compact design.
Easy setup/install.
Fast xfer rate.
Hot swappable.

Cons: ...none really...

Other Thoughts: Works as advertised. The only thing that I cannot understand is why it won't detect/read a Western Digital 160GB HD that has Windows 7 installed on it but to be fair, if I slave the drive to my current HDD that has Windows 7 installed as well its not detected either. BTW, I know that the HDD works since it will boot.
Xfer rates on my box is around 24MB/sec which is just fine considering its a USB connection.
We will see how long it lasts given some of the negative reviews/comments made by other buyers.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat product

Pros: It's extremely easy to use and to swap out hard drives of any size. It auto sleeps when not in use to save power and reduce heat.

Cons: Without external airflow the drive can get very hot if used consistently for extended periods. Though, I am using a 1TB hard drive and it really only got hot once while I was transferring a lot of data to it.

Pros: With a simple USB connection, this device accepts 2.5" and 3.5" drives with ease. Drives can be hot swapped but the device also has a power switch so you can just turn it off, up plug it and move it to another machine with the drive still plugged in.

Cons: In Windows XP I have to use Disk Manager to activate the drive every time I connect it.

Other Thoughts: This device works great and is a simple way to make backups to external SATA drives.

1 out of 5 eggsThermaltake SATA Docking Station

Pros: Convenience, low profile

Cons: Failed with 30 minutes of use. Multiple computers could no longer recognize the docking station. Message stated that the unit had failed.

Other Thoughts: I ordered 2 sets of docking stations and drives and set back entire order. Don't want to deal with this. Failure is not an option out of the box.

Pros: Works great right out of the box. Running win7 identified all the drives I tried, 500 Gb, 1 Tb and 1.5 Tb

Cons: Power switch is on the back. It makes it ackward to reach where I have the unit tucked in a corner.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: Simple & convenient. I wanted this to be able to make copies of hard drives etc without having to open up the computer and add a fixed drive. Also works great as a holder for a backup drive.

Cons: Can't think of any.

Other Thoughts: I have a friend who has had one for a year without any issues.

2 out of 5 eggsWhy? Use SATA instead

Pros: Handy, easy to use, somewhat better than a drive sitting on the desk.

Cons: USB 2. A lot slower than sata when most newer motherboards have an esata plug and you can buy a cable to go from esata to sata from newegg. Also, but an external sata power adapter for about the same money and get sata II speeds for the same money!

Other Thoughts: why settle for something so slow when you can buy an esata to sata cable and external power supply for a sata drive for about the same money. All the motherboards I've bought in the last 4 years have an esata on the back and even on my older ones I run a sata cable from the interior and out the back. Can run a sata power cable out the back also...Either way, its much faster. Only need an external HHD enclosure if it's a IDE drive. SATA is the only way to go if you're transfering large amounts of data and don't want to have to let it sit overnight while it copies 500Gb.

Pros: Have had no issues with the device. Does what its supposed to do. Swapping drives is quick and painless

Cons: USB2.0 is inherently slow.

5 out of 5 eggsI whole-heartedly recommend this!

Pros: First off, I bought this when it was a Shell Shocker deal for $22.89, on 02/08/10. Really, that was just a bonus, which provided me incentive to get it. I had previously bought a "HITACHI Travelstar 7K500 HD20500 IDK/7K 500GB 7200 RPM 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Notebook Hard Drive" (A cheap Black Friday deal) to upgrade my laptop's old 320 GB hard drive. After upgrading, I wanted to be able to use my old hard drive as a back up, but didn't want the hassle of an external enclosure. I did a lot of research, and let me tell you, there is NOTHING like this out on the market, except slight variations made by the same company. It does everything it needs to do, which for me is just occasional back-ups, with no hitches at all! It immediately recognized my OS (Windows 7), and performed complicated tasks, such as reformatting my old hard drive. It takes away the pain of opening my laptop to change hard drives all the time! Any size and type of hard drive slides in and out like easy, and stays!

Cons: Given that it uses a USB cord, transfer speeds aren't amazing, but that can be remedied by simply leaving it alone all night. Also, the USB cord isn't very long, (2.5-3 feet) so you'll have to keep it close to the computer. It would be nice if the on/off switch were in front, but honestly that's just being nit-picky. This thing ROCKS.

Other Thoughts: Well worth your money, especially if you have multiple hard drives laying around. Unfortunately it doesn't support hot-swapping, but the thing takes no time to power down, switch hard drives, and power up again, so it's not a problem really. It also runs very quietly. I have owned for just over 5 months, and it still works perfectly!

5 out of 5 eggsthermaltake BlacX N0028USU External Hard Drive Docking Station.

Pros: Price. Convenience. Usefullness.

Cons: Hard drives do get warm.....not hot, by any definition. I just put a small fan on the underside of the HD and it runs cooler than my internal HD's.

Other Thoughts: I can have a dozen HD's that rarely run at all. The expectation of a HD failure is low. I can backup data [photos, mp3s, ripped DVDs (oops)] and then remove the HD. Operational hours remain low and no other adapters are required. This is a no brainer. Hot swap-able.

5 out of 5 eggsInvaluable tool

Pros: Price, this is a bit cheaper than when I bought it a year ago. At the time I wasn't sure how much I would use it, but I do use it often enough.
As the resident computer expert, friends and family are always coming to me with PC problems and for upgrades to hardware and software.
This has become an invaluable tool in my arsenal, it takes me no time at all to figure out what is going on with an unfamiliar hard drive without having to install it in a machine.

Cons: #1-The USB 2.0 interface is S L O W. This is not ideal for transferring large amounts of data or to mirror a hard drive. For that you may as well install it into the machine with the new drive. Needs a faster transfer option.

#2- Wish they had a way of attaching ATA drives, which I still see quite a bit. Especially since most motherboards I come across have only one ATA connector on the board, 2 devices maximum.

#3 doesn't run off USB power. That means finding room for an extra brick on your overcrowded surge protector

Other Thoughts: It doesn't have a (too) large footprint to fit on my gadget filled desk. It doesn't have any moving parts to break, seems sturdy and I imagine I'll have it for the next ten years.
The name is a little clunky. Don't really have a name for it, its just my hard drive thingy.
Despite its shortcomings, for the price it is highly recommended.

5 out of 5 eggsIt works as it should!

Pros: There is not much to say about this unit. I does what it is supposed to do. I bought it as shell shocker deal it so I got a great price on it. Plug in play in XP. Comes with printed instructions on how to initialize a new hard drive in case you have never done this before ;-)

Cons: Couldn't find anything.

Other Thoughts: Would be nice if they made this with SATA and IDE ports.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks well for the most part

Pros: The docks has a heavy, solid feel to it. You are not afraid it will tip over. Easy to insert and remove drives. Eject button seems solid(why some think it's flimsy, I'm not sure). No drivers required, works out of the box. On/Off button in the back. Blue and red light on front. Blue for power on and red when drive is active.

Cons: No fan of any kind. Be prepared to have your drives heat up quite a lot within 20min of being on this thing. Not sure why they did not put a fan on this dock. I had to rig a system fan on it with rubber bands to keep the drives cool.
Only USB 2.0, wish it had firewire or eSata as well.

Other Thoughts: Other than drives getting hot, it seems like a great product.
My box says support up to 1TB, but apparently that is an old box and it supports up to 2TB at this time(per Thermaltake customer service email reply). I picked it up straight from manufacturer via flebay on the cheap.

5 out of 5 eggsthermaltake rocks

Pros: price
ease of use/form factor - docking is nice. beats having to install the drive in an enclosure. hot swap is a great convenience

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: keeping this and a TB drive on another machine or directly attached to a router in another building on location would be nice "off-site" storage.

2 out of 5 eggsMy second one didn't work

Pros: Fits 2.5" laptop hard drives and 3.5" desktop hard drives.
Easy to access many hard drives for archival storage or backups.

Cons: My second one didn't work properly. It accepted a 3.5" hard drive fine, but when I put a 2.5" hard drive in, it wouldn't show up in Windows. The second (different brand and size) 2.5" hard drive caused it to make a scary screeching noise, although the hard drive was not damaged.

Other Thoughts: I was happy with this model, and so decided to buy a second one. The second one was defective. Newegg was very classy about accepting the product back for a refund. I've had consistently great service from newegg.

4 out of 5 eggsPack it up! Pack it in! Just slap it in!

Pros: Very easy to plug and play any 2.5 - 3.5 HDD. Before I always had to unplug my enclosures, pull them apart, insert my HDDs and then put them all together again before I could hook everything back into my computer. WHAT A PAIN! This thing is the bomb! Now I just slap it in and I'm up and running in no time flat. No more bull*&$@! LOVE IT!!!!

Cons: USB 2.0 interface is pretty slow! This thing could use an external eSATA interface to speed things up considerably. I guess if your just backing up overnight or transfering small amounts of data at a time it's no concern, but it can be annoyingly slow if your looking to get a large back up done fast! One egg for that.....

Other Thoughts: Buy One!

5 out of 5 eggsDefinitely A Great Buy

Pros: - Fan-less design
- Hot swap is simple
- 3.5" AND 2.5" SATA compatible

Cons: - Loose USB connection (maybe just me)

Other Thoughts: There's an eSATA version available for about $10 more. Kind of pointless unless you actually NEED 20mb+ per second speeds. I'm using this for my Wii (Geexbox/MPlayerCE) and it does just fine.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great!

Pros: Windows 7 found the new disk with no issues- found the device and installed the drivers. Hot Swap drops the bay faster than any of my other USB devices. The base has some weight to it - it's not going to tip over. The drive is held straight up. I put a 1.0TB Western Digital Green drive in and ran it for about 8 hours - drive and unit stayed very cool.

Cons: I like the little blue/red light - it's not that bright!

Other Thoughts: Nice unit - I'm now looking for a good IDE USB Hot-Swap bay.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: - Simple to use and takes up less room then some portable harddrives enclosures.
- External Power (included)
- USB Cable (included)

Cons: - No matter how I tried, I could not get it to 'hot swap'. I even updated my Sata Drivers to no avail.
- A bit on the slow side, (on par with any external USB harddrive).

Other Thoughts: For my System Backups, this works well. I would prefer the hot swap option to work properly. However, I simply turn the unit off, install a new harddrive and turn it back on. It's not THAT big of a deal.

Pros: Comes with everything needed to use a SATA hdd. Even has the eSATA cable included. Easy to use and hook up. No instructions necessary.

5 out of 5 eggsI Love It

Pros: Bought it along with a 640GB WD drive to make backups. I've used that drive, a Seagate 250GB drive, and an old 2.5-inch 250GB drive from a lappy that got lemonade spilled on it (it died, but the hard drive still works). All of the drives I've used it with have worked perfectly. The speed is good seeing as how it's only USB. This thing can switch hard drives (hot-swappable) as if they're USB drives with no errors.

Cons: I wish it had FireWire capabilities. But I knew that it didn't when I bought it.

Keeps the drive spinning even when the computer's off, so you have to manually switch off the enclosure. At least it has a power button.

The power button is like a Mac: it's on the back. Whoever first thought to put the on/off button on the BACK of a computer (or a drive enclosure) was a face head.

The power indicator light was sort of smashed into itself. Nothing that alters performance, but it's annoying if you have OCD.

Overall, though, this is still a wondrous product.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent!

Pros: Plug-and-play. Precisely as advertised. Excellent craftsmanship. I am guessing they re-designed it because the issues others mentioned do not seem to be present in mine. The release lever on the front is solid and steady and the power button on the back is firm and clicks comfortably. No complaints whatsoever. I've tried about 10 different hard drives, both 3.5 and 2.5 and a few SSD ones as well, and all have worked without a single problem. Even used it with a couple of my encrypted disks using TrueCrypt whole disk encryption without a problem. All tests I've done were on Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

Cons: The only "con" I can think of is that the data cable could have been longer. It came with a 3 foot USB cable and I found that, for desktop use, a 6 foot cable is much better since my tower is under the table and the 3 foot cable makes me have to keep this near the back of my desk.

Other Thoughts: Works immediately, all my hard drives plug in effortlessly, seems to be built well and sits very stable and solid on my desk. No complaints at all.

Pros: I bought 2 of these on sale and both have worked consistently well for over 6 months.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Convenient!

Pros: This product is great. I was looking to buy an external hard drive, but realized this was way more convenient for me. I can just switch from hard drive to hard drive. Much better in my opinion than buying a less versatile external hd case. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate and it did not recognize my hard drive automatically, but I pulled it up with disk management.

Cons: Only con so far is the power adapter. For me it works for now though.

4 out of 5 eggsDoes the job

Pros: Both eSATA and USB2. Includes both cables. eSATA is FAST, in a test I moved 3.3GB in about 45 seconds to a WB Caviar Black, under USB2.0 I quit when it started saying it would take several minutes. Well-packaged.

Cons: The eSATA cable is stiff and about 3 feet, so the box has to sit right next to my tower case. (the port is at the top front) The power supply is a small wall wart, which takes up extra space on my UPS, one of the competitors features an inline transformer which means standard plug on the end, much preferred. Instructions direct you to a nonexistent page on the Thermaltake site for more info.

Other Thoughts: I bought this and two bare hard drives, and with Cobian 8, I now have a rotational backup solution for about 500GB of photographs. As mentioned elsewhere, I had to use USB first to initialize and format the drives. After that, eSATA works fine. I don't consider that a fault of the device. For my backup needs, USB would probably have been OK, but I'll probably buy another bare drive to swap in for video editing. Vista 64 OS.

5 out of 5 eggsIncredibly handy devices

Pros: Reliable. I bought one of these in a package with a 1.5 TB drive to implement a backup solution for a friend. I have another that I've been using for nightly backups for 6 or 8 months. They just work. Get external USB backup at a fraction of the price of a pre-packaged external drive.. and I think they run cooler and you can use faster drives than you get in an external.

Less than two weeks after I got their backups in place, their laptop died. I was able to get their new laptop going with all their software/pictures etc in about 30 minutes. And then I used this enclosure to pop in their old laptop drive and get a few more things off it as well.

Cons: A little bulky perhaps.

Other Thoughts: Windows 7 sometimes can't 'eject' these devices because they are in use. Odd, so I suggest making sure you have the drive set to 'optimize for quick removal', aka turn off write caching.

5 out of 5 eggsHappy With It

Pros: Simple. I use a 1tb drive with it usually. It is simple and fast to swap drives.

Cons: It is obvious before you buy the drive, so I am not deducting an egg for it. But, I wanted to point it out. The drive is not enclosed at all, so the noise of the drive is not buffered at all. When getting a drive, read the reviews, especially comments on noise.

Other Thoughts: Despite my comment in the "con" section, I have been very happy with the doc. I would definitely buy it again if I am ever in the market for such again.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks as described. Great product

Pros: Easy to switch between drives when necessary without pulling screws and going through the trouble of assembling and or disassembling enclosures/towers.

Houses both 2.5" and 3.5" SATA

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I ended up using it as permanent enclosure to house my 500gb for my Windows Home Server. It's on 24/7 and has been going strong for a month or two.

4 out of 5 eggsSlow, Convenient

Pros: Quick, dirty, painless. Nice weight. Does not feel cheap.

Cons: Slow transfer speeds. USB 2 was never adequate.

Other Thoughts: You're not going to edit video with this. At best, its offline storage. Dump whatever you want onto a hard drive, then throw it on the shelf until you need it again.

5 out of 5 eggsOutstanding

Pros: Easy to plug in and use. Handles both 2.5 and 3.5 inch drives with great ease. HEavy enough that it won't tip over with a 3.5" drive inserted. Access light on top displays when the hard drive is being written to or read. Small footprint doesn't take up much desk space. Time saver from messing around with cumbersome cables or opening my pc for SATA access.

Cons: 3.0 USB would be nice...

Other Thoughts: I've been eyeballing this little device for several years now. The price dropped to such a low level that I couldn't resist any longer. What a time saver for me when I want to format or access many spare drives. Instead of fooling around with harnesses, power cords and other annoying things; I just plug my spare hard drive in this and bam, instant access!

If you are a computer hobbiest like myself and seem to be up to your knees in spare hard drives but don't like the hassle plugging them in etc... Grab one of these! I paid 22 bones with free shipping and won't look back. Moviing forward and having a ball with a diversified device that makes life easier for me.

5 out of 5 eggsNice

Pros: This is great. The power button on the back is handy and the blue LED on the front flickers red with activity. Simple install, I just plugged in the power, the USB and the 2.5 HDD from a laptop to get some files I needed. I figure I can just buy internal SATA drives now but the price of externals has fallen sharply at this date and time

Cons: Not really a con because the units works as described but it would be great to have USB 3.0, firewire or eSATA

Other Thoughts: Is NEWEGG awesome or what? I always get excellent service people if needed.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Product

Pros: Does what it says - plug in a drive and away you go.

Cons: On some machines you need to make sure that this is turned off when you boot otherwise the computer will attempt to boot to this drive. (A good thing if you want it to boot to an external USB drive.)

Other Thoughts: I have used this with 20GB - 1TB drives on Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows Servers 2003 and 2008R2 with out any problems other than the USB boot issue.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Awesome concept... like it enough to get one for leaving attached to my comp and one for my bluray player (just pop drives between without moving the cables/setup. Makes backups and storage even easier than a hot-swap internal bay (albeit slower than SATA of course).

Cons: Definitely feels cheap, but it isn't advertised as a ruggedized product. Don't toss it around!

5 out of 5 eggsGood purchase

Pros: Works on PC right out of the box with no problems at all. It has a fairly small footprint for what it is. I love that it is almost completely silent.

Cons: I am just a little worried about where the power cord inserts into the unit.

Pros: This docking station is great when it works. I received my first unit, DOA, Newegg replaced promptly. Thumbs up to Newegg.

Cons: Extremely unreliable. You just don't know when the unit will fail. My replacement unit is no longer working. I only used it for a few backups. The power light comes up then goes away. I can hear the HD spinning but computer does not recognize the drive.

Other Thoughts: I am sending this docking station back, on my expense. I will give another try but I really cannot recommend this unit at this time.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat docking station

Pros: It's very solid, compact and looks good. It's external, so looks have to be somewhat important. Easy to use, plug and play, works easily with Linux.

Cons: Now with the addition of USB 3, I'd like to see a USB 3 version.

Other Thoughts: I've bought a few more of these when I find cheap deals on other websites. They are great!

3 out of 5 eggsSLOOWWW

Pros: Recognized the disk easily enough. 3.5" and 2.5" capable.

Cons: WOW it took a log time to migrate over 200Gbs of info. I realize that is a lot of data, but hours to migrate?

Other Thoughts: Part of a good price combo deal but will not buy another unless it has eSATA.

5 out of 5 eggsServes it's purpose :)

Pros: Using it in conjunction with a Western Digital HD media player by the TV with stack of other drives. Takes about 30 seconds once power is pressed before drive is usable with the player.

Weighted so it isn't top-heavy.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Works as advertised.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works as promised. No setup required, just plug in the USB cable. Brings extended usefulness to old (but still working) discarded hard drives.

Cons: An eSATA connection would be nice.

Other Thoughts: I love this thing. As I upgrade to ever larger drives, I've got a number of older drives. With this docking station I can easily connect to those drives and use them for backups and rarely accessed data.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks As Expected

Pros: Works as expected, behaves normally, led 'on' light is clear and in a logical location, ability to turn on/off the unit without unplugging, supports 2.5" and 3.5" drives, physically stable (does not vibrate while drive is running, etc), etc.

Cons: This is not the eSATA model.

5 out of 5 eggsYessir!

Pros: Works as advertised, and does a good job at it.

-No software/drivers to install
-Dissipates heat very well; tested with WD Raptor drive and ran cool.
-2.5" and 3.5" such a plus, especially if you have laptops, desktops, and a PS3 in your home.
-Pretty cool looking at the arm and plates moving through the window on Raptor drives!

Cons: States USB 2.0 Support up to 480

Other Thoughts: States USB 2.0 Support @ up to 480 Mbps... not sure how to achieve those speeds but the testing I ran with the Raptor drive yielded a max of 22-25 Mbps when copying data.'

Absolutely smokes the Seagate FreeAgents I have all over the place... A must buy if you need full back-ups/images or just increased storage without having to crack open the desktop or upgrade your hard drive.
