Pros: Easy to set up and use.
No need to install drivers for XP and above.
Takes up very little space.
Good price.

Cons: The eject mechanism seems a little flimsy, like it could break after a lot of use.

Other Thoughts: I work at a video editing facility and we have to use hard drives quite often to back up project or transfer large amounts of data between computers. We use internal hard drives because of the cost and we had been using hard drive bays in the computers which requires the computer to be shut down and restarted.

These bays have been a huge time-saver and they work exactly as expected. It would be nice if this model had an esata option, but the USB 2.0 is fast enough to edit video from.

Outstanding External Enclosure

Pros: This thing rocks - what a genius concept. Setup could not be simpler - plug in power and USB, drop the drive in and you're in business. Bonus points for taking both 3.5" and 2.5" SATA drives.

Other Thoughts: Originally bought this for my dad whose Seagate FreeAgent external drive died (due to controller issues - the drive was fine) - I pulled the drive from the FreeAgent enclosure and popped it into this and it worked just fine.

Also ordered one for myself after setting this one up.

Free, and worth it

Pros: Plug-and-play in XP with Seagate 1.5TB drive (combo offer from newegg: buy drive, dock = free). Fit & finish OK. Speed seems typical of such devices.

Cons: Not recognized in Vista x64, having to RMA at my shipping cost (they will cross-ship - on my credit card of course - and I will reuse their packing). Pity it can't be flashed or fixed. They have not explained the problem of course, why tell people anything?

Pushbutton eject takes a fair effort and then the drive will pop up dangerously in the air almost like a piece of toast, then fall down and re-seat itself or almost so. In other words, it's a two-handed job. More leverage in the eject mechanism would probably help.

Other Thoughts: It's worth paying "free," it's even worth the shipping, but it's still a disappointment and reduced my confidence in future Thermaltake products. At the least I have to factor re-shipping into the price of any future purchases.

They apparently have models with more features, which may perhaps be better quality. I would like a dual dock and an eSATA version; actually was looking at different makes with quad interfaces to work with old Mac firewire equipment; but then this was free. Free is good.

Why buy an enclosure or tray

Pros: Plug it in and it works. I have 4 of these they work slick. Keep drives cool and are easy to swap. Use them for Video editing and back up storage. Have 4 T in the machine but these devices make that look obsolete for some of my purposes. Am replacing removable tray units in two machines. Wish this was available for PATA drives, it would be cool.

Cons: Takes up Desk Real Estate and requires 110 v outlet, I need a spidey sense to manage the web of wires in my computer nest. But that is not this device's fault.

Other Thoughts: The eSata version is better in those cases and there is a dual drive eSat/USB version available for us HDD hogs.
