5 out of 5 eggsWorks as advertised

Pros: * Drives can be moved in and out easily
* Power switch is in the front for easy access so you do not have to have the drives powered up all the time and can quickly power down to switch drives.
* Unlike others I have not had any issues running two drives at once. I have run both full size and laptop size drives and a mix at once with no problems.

Cons: * This is not really a con but more of feature that would be nice. It would be better if you could power up and down the drives separately but that isn't really a big deal.

Other Thoughts: If you're an old geek like me and have drives from systems past, this is a great tool to have. Just stash the old drive just in case you left something on them that you forgot to migrate over and just pop them in if you need to go digging around. I also have a few projects in the 2-300 gig range and nice not to have to keep them on the active drive array and of course it also makes for a great backup medium.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Dock

Pros: All positive, product preformed and functions is exactly as described. Is $45.

Cons: No matter how hard I push I cant ram my SCSI and SCSI drives into it :(d

Other Thoughts: I was surprised to see this have only 3 stars, I've owned one for close to a year and still functions perfectly. Never had an problems corrupting drives or ejecting. Like others have stated if you are using cheap wd green/blues then windows/controllers will power down the drive...but this is irrelevant to this product. Clones/tests/handles drives perfectly and fairly quick. If you find it crucial to have hot swappable extremely stable a rackmount and a poweredge or something... This product is perfect for desktop use.

5 out of 5 eggsI love this thing

Pros: Easy to use. Works great under Linux.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: This is a great bit of hardware for copying a dying drive onto new platters. It might not be the fastest since it's only USB2.0 (I never use the eSATA for lack of good hot-pluggable eSATA ports on my rig), but I have rescued more failed drives through this thing. One of these plus ddrescue and some time and you can do some wonderful saves.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat dock!

Pros: Quick to setup
Supports two drives
Esata + USB
Hot swappable
Drives fit perfectly
Runs fairly cool
Fairly Heavy so it wont move and rubber pads are good on bottom keep it from moving on desk

Cons: Only usb 2.0
SMART data will only be available from HDD Port 1

Other Thoughts: I personally believe most of issues on this dock are from people not knowing what they are doing. New drives need initialized before format, otherwise they wont show up. Also Dock will only show 1st port HDD for smart data this isnt a issue just the design.
Improper ejecting of drives over usb 2.0 will most likely cause drives to break. The hot swap is only for esata. And Esata requires port multipler motherboard in order to work right so most people dont know what that means specially people using this on esata laptop.

Keep in mind people complaining about drives dropping/disapearing is mainly because alot of newer drives have power conserving features that will spin down drive when not in use. That coupled with windows hard drive power management will cause these things. Safe bet for 24/7 usage is Western Digital Red or black drive due to them not having power conserving features built in and turning off power conserving features in windows.

I can almost promise you 30% of issues on this are due to user error. Great dock my drives run cooler on this one for whatever reason then my cheap e/bay 1 bay dock. I bought this just to maintain my drives for my raid array and to clone a drive if need be.

My Setup:
This Dock
5x Western Digital Black (2TB) (Enterprise Class) WD2000F9YZ (Use this dock to test my drives and maintain my raid 5 array)

3 out of 5 eggsWas good

Pros: Was good while it worked.

Cons: No SMART testing over ESATA connection in Windows, only over USB could GSmart Control read the SMART table attributes and send test commands. I always plugged in a non failing drive into this dock. Used maybe 6 times over the last year then one day I went to plug it back into the surge protector and the blue leds would only flash when powering on/off. Tried a drive for the heck of it, the drive would spin up but the data connection wasn't there. Tried multiple 0 error 2.5 and 3.5" drives all with same behavior, feel the disk spinning but no data link over both ESATA and USB 2.0. Shame but not worth going through the return process over a $40 item that was a gift to me anyway.

1 out of 5 eggsCorrupts Drives, Use if You Dare...

Pros: Does What it Says...

Cons: Does more than it claims like repeatedly corrupting drives.
Had to use Data Recovery Program after formating drive so OS would recognize drive again.

BEWARE, Use if You Dare...

Other Thoughts: $50.00 got me 1 month of data transfer and in 1 second flat data was gone and drive was corrupted.
Recommend to your enemies maybe...

4 out of 5 eggsOnly one fatal flaw for Mac users

Pros: Quiet, low profile, easy to use, inexpensive.

Cons: Not hot swappable when running on Mac via USB

Other Thoughts: I have my iTunes and iPhoto library on an external HD inserted into this. The problem I have is that if I remove another drive in it, it ejects BOTH, or if I insert one in the empty slot, it ejects the other. Have not tried it through eSATA connection. I've learned to live with it, and expect it, but it may be a deal breaker for some.

1 out of 5 eggsWorks rarely, always disconnecting

Pros: None.

Cons: I bought this thing some months ago. I tried it with a drive and it didn't work. I've tried this with a number of different drives. It will connect via USB, briefly. I tried copying files to the drive (1) installed in the DUET. It copied some files, then the system said it couldn't find the files, even though they showed up in Windows Explorer. Disconnecting, re-connecting did not help. I thought I'd try via eSATA; that doesn't work at all. I tested the port with another device and it works fine. This thing isn't worth the plastic it's made from. I really think Thermaltake should take some responsibility here; I looked on the internet and very few people have anything good to say about this thing. Don't waste your time or money.

Other Thoughts: Anyone want to buy a boat anchor, cheap?

3 out of 5 eggsWorks well with Thunderbolt adapter

Pros: Same as my earlier review

Cons: Same as my earlier review

Other Thoughts: This is an update to my earlier review. I now have it hooked up to a LaCie eSATA Hub to allow it to work with a new iMac. This combination works very well, and is great alternative to a hard-or-impossible-to-find Thunderbolt 3.5" hard disk docking station.

1 out of 5 eggsDoesnt work anymore...

Pros: Easy to use.
Convenient way to hook up drives.
Aesthetically pleasing.

Cons: I have owned three of these. Unfortunately all three have died after around 6 months of use.

I assumed that the first one dieing was my fault since I used it a lot to hook up drives. After the second one died I thought, "Hey, wait a minute... these are made to hook up drives. Why should they die if I use it?".

Im on my third one and it just died which is what prompted me to write this review. No longer works through esata or USB. Also, I have noticed that the power buttons get very finicky over time. This unit (my third one) has an extremely sensitive power button but it was not always like this. If I apply even a smidgen of pressure then the switch underneath is activated/deactivated.

Other Thoughts: I tried to like these. I purchased three and gave Thermaltake nearly $100+ of my hard earned money. I should have purchased something else (cheaper) after the first one. I used to love Thermaltake products but these make me a sad panda.
