3 out of 5 eggsDon't buy if you game

Pros: It turns on and runs. Fine for checking email, word processing, basic computing, low end gaming (but not even Farmville runs right).

Cons: I spent over a year trying to diagnose issues with an HD Radeon 6850 and got nowhere. The card repeatedly crashing and recovering, or just outright giving up. I could never fully determine if the fault was with the card or the CPU (FX-8120). I had many very tech savy people (including featuring the problem on CodeCall) try to help with it, to no avail.
Last night I took this PSU out and replaced it with an 80 plus Platinum certified model. The difference was astounding, and the graphics card and CPU are working (except for Minecraft - Java issue, but we have Windows 8 and I read Notch wasn't in a hurry to fix that). My son is now playing Natural Selection 2. Before the change he couldn't even watch Youtube without the threat of crashing.

Other Thoughts: I am not saying this is a bad PSU, it just isn't any good for gamers or anyone needing to use a lot of resources.

I gave it 3 eggs because if I was using it for everyday stuff like checking email and word processing it would have been ok. However, the information on how it will run crossfire, etc is misleading. If it can't run a single HD Radeon 6850, how will it run 2?

If you have an FX CPU... Do not buy this power supply.

5 out of 5 eggsQuiet, Cool, Effective

Pros: First PSU, first build:

1. No fuss, not one problem with this PSU for the year+ it has been running.

2. Runs quietly and cool.

3. Modular cables.

4. Subdued appearance doesn't over promise.

5. With rebate, cost was $65.

6. 5 year warranty

Cons: Although I have been able to place the cables how and where I want, a little more length would have helped.

Other Thoughts: This PSU has powered my first build for over a year without a hitch. This seems to have been a good choice for my modest system (i5-2500, 2 1.5T Seagates, SanDisk 128GB SSD, GeForce GT430, 1 DVD and 1 BluRay burner). I think this line of TR2s were not well received but this one has served me well. I notice that Thermaltake pays attention to these reviews and is willing to support their products so I feel confident that any problems with this PSU would be supported through the warranty.

Note: When I'm checking out a product on Newegg, I go first to the one and two star(*) reviews and see if the product's manufacturer responds to these problems. If not, I won't buy that product.

3 out of 5 eggsNot Thermaltake's best - Third Failure

Pros: Detachable power cables, trusted known brand, mid-price range, large fan, 5 year warranty, ***person*** answering phone for support and nice design.

Cons: I order the first power supply (PS) in May of 2010, the PS was DOA Newegg sent another PS immediately and the replacement lasted until 11/21/12 and it stopped working. I used a CoolMax PS tester to verify that it was faulty. This PS was used only occasionally in my Unraid Server. Thermaltake's 5 year warranty will come into play (I just contacted Thermaltake to submit my RMA) and hopefully I will receive my replacement without any issues. In the meantime I purchased a Corsair TX750 Black Friday Special from Newegg to replace the Thermaltake. I trust in Thermaltake products and believe they make reliable cost effective end user components. Let's hope that this particular PS its just a buggy design.

Pros: Very good PSU. I have not had any problems with it so far. Great value.

Cons: Not quite as modular as i would like, but for less than $100, it's a great deal.

3 out of 5 eggsWorks well with occasional issues

Pros: Powers everything well.

No issues straight out of the box

came with many cables allowing me to hook virtually anything I want with it

Cons: Ever since I put together my PC however, occassionally (I think this might have to do with overheating, because it seems to happen less frequently when it is cooler in the room, though this may be coincidence) I will come back to find my computer completely shut off and I have to flip the switch on the power supply on, and then off again to restart my computer. This even happens when I am on the computer in the middle of something.

This could be attributed to other hardware on my computer I suppose, but based on other reviews having the same issues I assume it to be the power supply's fault.

This is the reason why I'm not giving this a 5 (obviously)

Other Thoughts: Awesome power supply if it werent for the shutting off randomly... pretty big issue

1 out of 5 eggsWould make a great boat anchor

Pros: Seems to be very quiet, but perhaps that's because it doesn't work correctly?

Cons: Not much to say. I haven't had this more than a few months and my computer shuts its self down all by itself. Does this a lot when playing games and trying to make updates in bios. Poorly put together and manufactured. No workmanship or pride went into to this product. Oh, and I must have the limited edition too because the power button mysteriously missing.

Other Thoughts: Not even worth sending back to the manufacturer due to not having faith in the value of the product and workmanship. I'll probably end up scraping this at the local metal recycling plant.

Manufacturer Response:

Please contact our customer service so that we can set you up with a replacement power supply.

Thank you!

1 out of 5 eggsHORRIBLE PSU

Pros: None

Cons: Horrible PSU, DOA, way too over priced as well. I purchased it as a combo with my video card so I lost my combo deal when I refunded it. :(

Other Thoughts: Will never buy thermaltake again!

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: Fit right in to my Antec 300 case. Semi-modular is great to have. I love it.

Cons: Nothing really. It's semi-modular, which I knew when buying it.
