5 out of 5 eggsReliable Enclosure so far

Pros: High quality contruction, Aluminum for better heat dissipation, and E-SATA (Much better than USB).

Cons: None that I can think of.

Other Thoughts: I have had this enclosure for more than 2 years, and paired it with an older Western Digital Caviar Green EARS model. I noticed that people are complaining about quality control. Newegg might have gotten a bad shipment of defective products witch tends to happen sometimes no matter what company makes the product .

2 out of 5 eggsHorrible Quality Control

Pros: It did (eventually) allow access to the attached HDD.

Cons: Quality control is lacking. Based upon my first experience, I fully expect a total failure in a short period of time.

Other Thoughts: Two of these were purchased.

1. The supplied HDD hounting screws don't fit any HDD we own - the threading is incorrect.

2. When finding your won HDD mounting screws, the heads need to be nearly flat. If not, the drive and tray won't slide into the aluminum casing.

3. One of two of the supplied USB cables was defective and wouldn't allow formatting the HDD.

It is unfortunate that few quality options exist for eSATA/USB 3.0 external enclosures. This item should be discontinued.

1 out of 5 eggsBad Choice

Pros: Comes with an e-sata cable...

Cons: As mentioned by other owners, the screws that hold the plastic faceplate and back-plane to the metal enclosure break through the mounts. Basically you have a great enclosure as long as you don't want it to stay enclosed!

Other Thoughts: I did not even bother to plug them in...

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,
We at Thermaltake apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you. Please contact ttsupport@thermaltakeusa.com for warranty service.
Best regards,

5 out of 5 eggsMy Favorite

Pros: Love these enclosures! I've tried a lot of different brands, including some very expensive ones, and I like this the best ... for the price and quality. The style of the container has changed from their older Silver River I, but I like these better, and can be stacked just as easily (although not with with Silver River I style). Will buy again!

Cons: Plastic tray. Maybe not a con, and maybe this is better since the drives seems to run very quiet.

Other Thoughts: Gotta love Newegg when I get that 1 day (overnight) delivery when I order 3-day! I think the secret is to just order 1 or 2 items. Luckily, I live close to a local warehouse. But, I notice that when I place a large order (more than 5 items?), my shipment comes from across country and takes up to 6 or more calendar days. My secret: Order small, order often!

2 out of 5 eggsNice look but poor design

Pros: Like the aluminum casing and SATA External outputs.

Cons: Plastic faceplate both holes broke on backside of faceplate. Did not even start to torque down the screws. Broke before even got them fully in.

The aluminum looks nice but where the two screws for the faceplate are located, thread holes are mis-tapped, the outside edge is showing the actual screw.

Other Thoughts: Only allows for SATA hard drives. A previous version of external case by the same company allowed both SATA and IDE drives in same case.

Manufacturer Response:

Sage,
Please contact ttsupport@thermaltakeusa.com so we can replace this unit for you as this is not normal for this enclosure.

Also IDE has been discontinued by the industry as SATA is a faster transfer rate.

4 out of 5 eggsNice case but watch the screws.

Pros: Very Nice case, great data transfer with eSATA,normal with USB 2.0, includes all the cables and has a power switch.

Cons: Aluminium case but no HDD contact for heat transfer.
Busted the holes that holds the cover in place.
Didnt even torque the screws, they just went in.
Put washers to hold cover in place. Also happened to my friend with the same model on the same day. Lost an Egg for that lack in design. Otherwise good case.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent build/

Pros: Sturdy aluminum build, included cables and a screwdriver. The attention to detail, like including the tools and the protective plastic coverings over the front and the back are a good indicator of quality workmanship. Very easy assembly/disassembly.

Cons: No cooling fan, so be careful if you plan on using a high speed drive. None, otherwise.

Other Thoughts: I put a 1TB 7200 Seagate SATA in it and, and it runs a little warm occasionally, but nothing to be worried about. I might be careful when using anything over 7200 though. Also includes cable for eSata and USB hook-up.

5 out of 5 eggsVery well made!

Pros: Sturdy aluminum construction, very affordable for eSATA, fast, super easy to assemble, tools are included, did I mention fast?

Cons: No cooling fans, no metal to metal contact between drive and exterior metal shell. Does get a little warm at times. Still, nothing that will burn you or destroy the drive not worth loosing an egg over.

Other Thoughts: I bought this enclosure to use with a Seagate 1.5TB (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148337) that I had pulled out of my old desktop when I bought my new Asus G60Jx. I needed extra fast storage for doing video editing on the go and holding my rather massive video collection. The drive has both USB and eSATA cables as well as a rather beefy power supply. Highly recommend this enclosure!
